MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
13:20 / 24.10.06
I am in! Regardless of theme.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
13:37 / 24.10.06
And you know I'm in.

Mike Modular
14:06 / 24.10.06
Alright then, new thread by tomorrow (home broadband's on the blink, so bear with me here...)

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
14:43 / 24.10.06
And I'm dying for the theme.

(shameless plug)

I have a birthday coming up in November....

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK
15:25 / 24.10.06
Ooh yeah, count me in.

I know it;s a bit messy but I'm gonna start work on the Christmas one after Hallowe'en- think of it as a bonus. I've got a few names already from PMs, but I'll start a thread next week.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
15:38 / 24.10.06
I've got my X-Mas song at the ready.

Kiltartan Cross
16:30 / 24.10.06
Consider me a-shiver and a-quiver with anticipation. Probably.

18:29 / 09.11.06
I'd like to see a "Sod off, Shakespeare" mix, for songs wholly or partly in languages other than English (or possibly in less mainstream dialects of English).

petunia
19:04 / 09.11.06
Shouldn't that be 'Vas-y Shakespeare!' or something similar?

Or maybe an avoidance of franco/romantic languages too; those being what done meke the Englishe speke how it be?

But yes - much up for a non-anglo mix. As long as nobody calls it or any of its tracks 'world music'.

grant
19:13 / 09.11.06
Heheh -- I think I've got the perfect song for that.

19:15 / 09.11.06
Although, now that I think of it, I have a few recordings of poets reciting their own poems that would've been perfect for all of the ones suggested so far. T.S. Eliot has a really funny way of reading, and "The Hollow Men" on that End of the World mix would have been kinda laughably creepy.

I think he does "The Waste Land" on the same album (I taped it off the library years ago and haven't listened much since). So dry.

How about Norwegian? I've got a lot of music in Norwegian...

...it's all metal, though.

Well count me in for future editons of this CD scheme.

Annoyed I missed the End of the World one - so many possibilities!

Mike Modular
21:39 / 13.11.06
Hey Rizla, there's still room on the Dark Carnival mix if you want to get in on that

rizla mission
21:42 / 13.11.06
Hmm... I might choose to sit that one out ironically enough - the theme's rather suggestive of a particular musical/aesthetic style that, er, isn't really 'me'.

Here's some suggestions though;

I remember a few years ago, when I evidently had quite a lot of time of my hands, I made a mix-tape that had SONGS ABOUT GOING INTO SPACE (crucial distinction here - not just songs about space - songs about GOING INTO IT) on one sie, and GOD/RELIGION on the other side.

I'm also always partial to SONGS WITH STORIES, although I'm sure that's been suggested already.

How about a SOUNDTRACK FOR A HORROR MOVIE one, or is that a bit close to ground that's already been covered?

SONGS ABOUT TRAVELLING is a bit general, but a good way to throw a bunch of varied and fun stuff together.

And so on.

SONGS THAT WILL UPSET YOUR PARENTS, because we want too.

MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
18:06 / 14.11.06
I have an idea so good it makes me giggle but I am keeping it to myself until it is my turn to wrangle in February/March.

Hee hee!

HEE HEE HEE HEE!

hee!

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
19:24 / 14.11.06
Oh yeah, I'm in charge in January. Did we decide on a theme or do I get to choose the theme?

MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!
19:29 / 14.11.06
YOU get to choose!

"Songs that might go along well with me gazing at length at glossy photographs of David Tennant" will be frowned upon.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
19:32 / 14.11.06
You bastard. Why can't that be the theme?

Feverfew
07:18 / 15.11.06
A-ha! I knew it and IMDB has confirmed it.

Kali, if you're after David Tennant goodness (others - sorry, but I don't think there's a Kali-David-Tennant thread to put this in) then seek out the first episode of the 2000 run of Randall and Hopkirk: Deceased.

I was watching it the other day, and it very slowly dawned on me that Gordon Stylus is, in fact, the current doctor...

Re: Songs about going into space - I have the perfect tune. Already. But that's life.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
13:14 / 15.11.06
I think I have a theme for January...and before anyone asks, NO, it doesn't have to do with David Tennant.

(Feverfew, I'm surprised no one has started a Kali-David Tennant thread, if only to tease me mercilessly.)

I like the idea of a Recycled Imagination Mix with our favorite & unexpected covers.
The point would be the cover should bring out something not in the orignal version or do something very unexpected with it or save it from the trash pile altogether.

Have you heard The Toy Doll's cover of Livin La Vida Loca? Outstanding example of a salvage job, with kazoos!

petunia
20:55 / 15.11.06
xk - I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you don't know the meaning of the word 'salvage'. You probably didn't know that salvaging is done to things that are rubbish.

petunia
21:00 / 15.11.06
...because if you did know what salvaging means, then your lips might end up devil red pretty quick.

And i don't mean from lipstick.

petunia
21:01 / 15.11.06
... i mean from blood.

Your blood.

Ticker
13:44 / 17.11.06
hehe.

I should send the track to you and let you be the judge.

Salvage is also the act of saving a ship that has been lost at sea. Could be a perfectly fine ship adrift without a crew in the Bermuda Triangle for example.

Another idea I had for a mix was the One Song Mix.
If you could choose one song for the entire universe or planet to listen to, what would it be? Would it have a message or sheer beauty or both?

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

I KNOW THAT ONE!!!

Do that one. I know mine already!

14:49 / 17.11.06
I'm all for Songs about going into space. I even have my song picked!

Kiltartan Cross
21:04 / 17.11.06
If you could choose one song for the entire universe or planet to listen to.

Entire planet? Absolutely no question about that one.

petunia
10:32 / 18.11.06
The planet needs Ricky!

Hydra vs Leviathan
19:16 / 18.11.06
a couple off the top of the head suggestions:

Chaos/Order double (could be pretty dark... or pretty wanky, dunno)

Madness (no, not the band... once again, could go down the dark route or the silly route)

Creation (or Beginnings or something... as a counterpart to the "End of the World" one)

if there's going to be a pirate one, i've got a wicked track for it...

(i won't volunteer to "host" one yet, cos i want to get my housing and computer-ownership situations more permanently sorted first... but might be up for doing one in a few months from now...)

I'm new to this lovely barbemix thing - and I would love to play! (am quite disappointed to have missed out on some previous mixes.) Are there any mixes still open? I've read through the threads but can't quite work out what's active and what's coming up next...

And, um, to keep this post on topic, I quite like these ideas:

Madness
Recycled Imagination
Shakespeare achi-itte (sod off shakespeare)

and some I thought of myself:

cross genre - that is, songs about books or movies or dance or whatever

(this is hard!)

songs about nature

um, everything else I can think of right now seems dumb. I'll try again later.

Essential Dazzler
18:50 / 23.11.06
What's the ettiquette on this thing?

Is the bull-by-the-horns thing still appropriate, or should I just suggest that Someone runs March with the theme of addiction? (Or anything else if people would like, I'd just really like to run one.)
