Welcome to the Little People.

The little people began as a way to get out of a creative rut I was in. The goal was to make a piece a day and slowly tell the story. Each piece builds from the one before it, adding new elements to the library that is the little people's world.

Along the way I've had to process the little people's worlds metaphysics, design attackships, tanks, floating islands, angry and happy people plus cutified gore.

So, I'm bringing the little people to Barbelith. A piece a day, till we catch up to the latest pieces.

Feel free to critique etc. Hope you all enjoy

I happened upon this series of images recently during a lite Barbelith blogtrawl. Rpg Frontality, with some platformy shots, ubercuteness and more nintendosity than I could ever dream of. Least to say, I like them. Especially that one overhead shot. The dream sequences are also a favourite. There's something quite cool about religious vision coupled with rainbows and oblong sprites. More of them, please!

Little People Pt 4 - On the way to town...

The little people are off to town to buy food and things. They cross the ancient bridge that has safe-guarded their village since the dawn of time...

Little People Pt 5 - Through the forest of the King of Bears

The little people come to the forest of the King of Bears. Long, long ago the King of Bears made a deal with the little people. If the left fruit or treats for the bears of his forest, they would not only not be harmed by the bears, the bears would protect them on their journey. The King of Bears said to leave mainly fruit as his children didn't each enough of it. The occassional sweet thing or cake was ok too but not too much as it was bad for the bears teeth.

The little people of the village had saved the King of Bears from a rock fall in time now forgotten and the kindness they showed melted his angry heart. He secretly watches over the little people and makes sure they are safe.

The little people had brought a basket of strawberries with them for the bears, which they leave at the small altar to the King of Bears by the road. They know the bears love strawberries.

Little People Pt 6 - At the edge of the Forest

The Little People reach the end of the forest and the end of the King of Bears domain. Beyond this point he can nolonger watch over the little people. The land below the mountains is controlled by the Purity™ Corporation. Purity seeks to dominate all it touches. In this world, the Little People are among the very few that resist its control. Purity consumes and does not replace. Purity takes colour and makes grey.

Little People Pt 8 - Town under the dominion of Purity™ Corp

The little people arrive in town and find it most unfriendly. Everyone seems to be frowning. Everyone only gets to wear grey now that Purity is in charge. Purity slogans are everywhere. Purity Religious Police are around every corner, Purity priests watch over from their grey pulpits...

Little People Pt 9 - The last HappyFood™ Shop in town...

The little people search all over town for a shop that still sells normal food. All the food shops now only sell Purity Protein Puree™, which looks like grey ooze and the little people didn't find very appealling. All the shopkeepers were rude and looked overly tired. They kept chanting 'Hail Purity' whenever the little people asked for something different beside the awful looking puree, and then looked over their shoulders as if they were being watched.

Finally they found what looked like the last HappyFood™ Shop in town.

Little People Pt 10 - HappyFood™ Shopping

In the HappyFood™ shop, the little people are happy to find real food and someone not all in grey. The shopkeeper, who is from the little people's village, looks a little grey though. They buy lots of goodies and fruit and cakes and veggies. The shopkeeper says he'll have to shut the shop soon. Purity doesn't allow alternative products, and certainly doesn't allow people to dress or look different. All people in town want is Purity Protein Puree™ anyway. The shopkeeper say it drains the soul of colour and makes you more subservient to Purity. He's heading back to the mountain to be with his husband and young family. Purity already attempted to put his husband to death for perversion. He tells the little people to head back to the mountain too, where it is still safe. Colourful clothes can be all it takes to lead to perversion charges. The Purity priests are everywhere now...

Little People Pt 11 - Purity™ Corp perversion trials and public executions

After leaving the shop the little people come across a large crowd in a public square. Purity priests are presiding over perversion trials. All found guity are beheaded. There is no defence, no appeal. With each beheading the crowd emptily drone 'Hail Purity'. The priests proclaim "we do this because our belief in god is strong, stronger than those who give into perversion. Difference is perversion, perversion is death". The little people are disturbed by this madness. Papa little says that Purity didn't have this kind of control last time he was in town. They were just handing out pamphlets. The little people head out of town as quickly as they can before someone notices their bright clothes.

The clouds clear and the rain subsides. The Purity Religious Police are in the King of Bear's territory now. He doesn't like them harassing his friends the little people. He really doesn't like these Purity Police at all. Angry bears gather at the edges of the trail...

Little People Pt 17 - Almost home, the ancient bridge by moonlight

The little people arrive back at the ancient bridge take protects their village. Under moonlight the secret magical signs inscribed on the brigde become visible, and the whole bridge glows with an eerie green light. The signs fill the air making it impossible for bad people to cross.

The little people arrive home to their village. It's getting late but some people are still up and about. Papa Little is relieved to be home after the days drama, though he wonders where they will go to get their groceries now that Purity controls town. He certainly doesn't want to risk execution each time he and his family goes shopping...

Little People Pt 19 - Dream Gnosis

Kid Little had been troubled by the days run in with purity corporation. These people said they served God but only seemed to bring darkness to the world. They destroyed colour and difference where ever they found it. He always thought God was about love, was he wrong?

That night Kid Little had an amazing dream. The King of Bears was there, telling him to go to the high hill and speak with the God.

Little People Pt 20 - On the high hill with God

Kid Little climbs the dreamclouds to the high hill and sits with God. The sky is filled with magical affirmations and happy thoughts.

Kid Little sits beside God and asks...
"Why are you a tree, God?"
"Oh, I'm not a tree. This is just an old representation I haven't used for a while. What I am really would just confuse you"
"God..."
"Yes Kid Little?"
"Why do people kill and destroy in your name?"
" *sigh* It seems people do this all along the reality chain. Its not in my name. It always in their own. I've only tried to get you all to get along and enjoy the manifold gardens, its very frustrating. But people are afraid, and fear can become very powerful. Sometimes it becomes so powerful it begins to speak as well..."
"Why don't you intervene?"
"because then the worlds are over, freedom is taken away. I don't want the worlds to end, I don't want to rule your worlds. They are beautiful and I want them to flower. I want them to be free. I'll garden behind the scenes, make sure the soil is fertile, that the flowering plants are watered, I inspire, I bring courage to overcome the fear that holds people in bondage... But in your world, so far up the reality chain I might be able to pull a few more strings"
"Why is the King of Bears crying?"
