On reflection, might it be easier to tentatively name a time and thus give people a definite hour at which meetings could be arranged?

For instance, this Wednesday I could host guests between 20:00 and 22:00 GMT quite happily, hopefully - but I don't know if that's any use to the non-gmt-ers.

Just a thought.

Um... Bump. Gates are open now but may be open later, too.

Anyone want Cherries for exchange? Lovely, lovely cherries!

I WANT FRUIT (apart from apples of which I have many)

I've come to this rather late but...

Code: 3866-1762-6287
Name: Fridge
Town: Pengiton

Might go through the thread and compile a full list if nobody minds.

That's really awesome, fridge. Thanks for making that page.

I'm home for the summer now, which means I have more time to play AC: WW. Also: writing my Masters thesis -- which analyzes AC: WW as its primary text -- has provided me many more opportunities to play. I look forward to visiting everyone very soon (as always, I'll post when the gates are open).

I'm wondering if some of the 'lith Crossers might be able to help my gears a-turnin'. A chapter of my thesis will deal with (in so many words) the ethics of the game. Has anyone thought about the ethics of their actions, decisions, rules while playing? Just trying to see if anything salient has appeared to others.

Very nice, Fridge.

I'm still about - I have Oranges, Coconuts, Plums and Cherries for sale or trade, just let me know. My current endeavour is to reach the next Nook level, but I haven't seen one of these 5-times-the-points days, nor have I seen "featured items". I feel left out, somehow.

Ah well.

I bought AC on Friday. I realise that I'm hopelessly behind the times, but, in my defence, I was waiting for a DS Lite.
Is anyone here still up for having guests/visiting? I'll be online in the evenings (GMT) as of the end of this week, but am lucky enough to live in a town with plentiful free wifi and so will be about between 12-1 (GMT) a couple of days a week for the forseeable future.

I'd love some visitors soon. I just completed a rennovation that added a room upstairs (and a brand spankin' new 598,000 bell mortgage), which I'm turning into an arcade (finally). Does anyone have the arcade machine in hir catalogue? I'd pay or trade for one or two of them (I've got 4 pinball machines already).

So please come visit my new room! I'll post next time the gates are open.

I have an arcade machine, think I have a pool table too.

That's top notch, fridge. Should come in very handy.
I've been out of my town for a while, but I'm going to be picking back up again soon, I reckon.

Status report on our players? Who's still pottering about?

I'm glad to see someone else just starting out. All this talk of enormous houses, exotic (i.e., not cherry) orchards and arcades was starting to get me down.
Of course, my bitterness can be at least partially explained by the fact that I've been playing since Friday and I still haven't even got a shovel. Damn you, Nook.

Ah, but the beauty of that is that we can be your wealthy benefactors, flouncing into your town in our twirly moustaches and top hats, leaving peaches and golden shovels in our wake!

I'm still playing...

I have a four-roomed house and a mortgate of something like 848,000 bells to pay off. Nook's a bugger like that.

Also, question - well, two questions -

I) I hear talk of these 5-times-the-points days, but I've yet to have one, as well as these "Featured Items" - are they to do with the Nook Points? I'm working my way towards gold level now, but it's slow going.

II) How many types of fruit are there? I started with cherries, and since then I've found coconuts and been given oranges and peaches - and I know there are also Apples, which I'd like to get my hands on if possible. Are there any other types?

I'm still enjoying it, and I have a friend who also plays every day, so we trade off fossils - but I'll start keeping hold of doubles if we both have any and I'll happily visit other towns to drop them off. I've yet to meet a Lither in AC but I'd really like to. So... yeah!

So, I bought myself a DS lite and AC:WW last week. It's great fun so far. I think I've gotten most of the tools, but I'm still waiting for Nook to get a net into his store so I can start collecting bugs.

I also bought a message in a bottle today, and Nook said that it might get to another town; does anyone know how it works? Can bottles get to the towns of anyone? Of people in your friends list?

I finally nabbed my copy on ebay. Trying not to read too much about it so as not to spoil the surprise. Will get a friend code asap.

One thing I have noticed - cog, stop reading, mild-ish spoiler - is that Paintings can be bought via the catalogue, as far as I can tell.

I'd therefore like to propose a Barbelith Art Exchange - if everyone still playing wouldn't mind checking their catalogue, and listing the paintings available, then we could potentially boost each other's collections greatly.

Someone stop me if this is a bad idea, or wouldn't work, however. But... It seems like it might.

Thoughts?

Hehe - all this inane babbling has got me well and truly intrigued.

Just bought AC:WW off eBay, to go with my new DS Lite, both of which should arrive in the post tomorrow. (w00t!)

Looking forward to posting my fruit/furniture shenanigans just as soon as I can.

I´ve been pottering for a few hours now, and have got a shovel & fishing rod. Caught 3 fish and donated them. Here is a catfish and a crawfish just below it.

Made myself a stripey jumper and picked up tons of apples and seashells to make money. Only found the one fossil so far, and that had an obvious bump in the ground. Do they crop up over time, or do I have to dig randomly? Does random digging ever find anything?

It's been constantly raining in Red Cove since I arrived. Boring. My name is Bukka, by the way. No wifi here, so no friend code yet, but I'll post it asap.

Also, why the horns on the hats? I don't get it.

I don't think you can get anything from random digging, since if you bury something, you can always see something (either one of those cracks in the ground, or the sapling/flower if you buried one of those). I think new buried things pop up every day, just like weeds.

I've been playing for a bit over three weeks now I think. And I've gotten two forged paintings, and no real ones. If I get a hold of a real one, I'd gladly help anyone who wants that kind. Personally I think I'll just wait until I get them all from Redd.

I might be interested in some fruit soon though. I have oranges (native), cherries, and I just found a coconut on the beach, but it seems to be hard to lure your villagers into giving you different kinds of fruit.

The collecting of things is highly enjoyable (and addictive), and I've gotten quite a lot of fish and fruit already. Paintings are (as I wrote) going slower, and the fossils are going steady. And I've decided that it would be fun to get the picture of all my villagers before letting them leave.

Geez! My DS didn't arrive today - grrr...

Which makes this discussion all the more vicariously exciting. Just how long does a game session in AC:WW last, on average?

Do you guys play for an hour at a time, or just a few minutes, or are you on it all day long? I'm interested.

Well, seeing as how you have all this pent-up excitement as a result of the shipping delays, I'm going to guess your first play session will run down the battery in one sitting.

It's a justifiable level of excitement, by the way.

The average length of my play sessions has been logner as of late, because of my research (which involves a lot of "play, then put it down, then type, then play, then put it down..."). But my orchards alone require me to invest much more time in the daily harvest (the newer, bigger mortgage is a bit of a motivation, too). In general, though, I play about an hour at a time (more if I am hosting visitors).

Speaking of which: my townsfolk are telling me they're lonely. I agree with them. Who wants to visit real soon-ish?

Having a bit of a 'mare setting up my router, but hope to be available for wifi fun next week.

As for how long the average sesh lasts, I'm averaging about an hour, once or twice a day. That's plenty time to pull up weeds, water flowers, harvest fruit and do whatever else takes my fancy.

Well, the game cart arrived today - I'll know later whether the actual system arrived as I had it sent to work.

Tonight I may well ignore work in favour of virtual fruit-gathering...

Can't wait.

What's the score with letter writing? I guess that what you write makes no difference, but what about length, or the presence of key words - such as hate, love, die, angry, visit etc etc Could i just write "aaaaa" each time and get the same results?

I know it's not helping to create an atmosphere in the game, and at the moment I'm still typing out pithy 1 liners to imaginary electroniv animals, but it could get old, really quickly.

Things I've learned about letter writing:

If you include a gift, reference the gift in the letter (i.e., if you include a pear, say something like "I picked this pear for you").

If the animal you're writing uses a catch phrase or a nickname, use that phrase in the letter.

Even though the letter automatically addresses itself to a the animal you select, try to use the animal's name in the note.

I believe these things help!

What Iamus said a few pages back:

Use complete sentences.
Never break a word over two lines, even if it means leaving a big space.
Use the animal's name somewhere (even though it's also at the top).
Mention the thing it is that you're sending.
Mention your town name.
Use the animal's catchphrase.
Use positive words like fantastic, great and cool.

Writing gibberish, or the same word over and over is not a good idea. Sending a letter repeating "love" over and over again will make the recipient unhappy, so you need to write a letter with different words.

And as far as I can tell, you should stick to fairly normal English words, so the game can recognise them as "valid".

Boy, I just saw a nice crown in the clothes shop, checked the price, and it was 1,000,000 bells!!

I've planted 2 coconuts and they've both failed.

3 presents have floated overhead on balloons and I've missed all of them. Also, once, a flying saucer whizzed past. Strange.

Oooooooooo, that flying saucer!

I know who's in it. I know what it does. The thought of it makes me squeee with delight. But I'll be fucked if I've managed to shoot it down yet.

One day. Some day. Soon.

Btw. Sorry for not getting back to you Bryan, I'm currently trying to resolve some DS intertron connection issues again. Will give you a heads-up when it's all good.

No worries, iamus. I know how these things get. I'm staying at my parents' place for the next month, and this place always gives me AC:WW intertron trouble, too (see ... oh ... page three of this thread?). I hope I can resolve it this time.

To everyone: Next week I hope to host a get-together in Trantor. Will hit this thread with date and GMT.

Been playing AC:WW for around a week now; managed around 3 hours gameplay, so no biggies yet for me.

Today in my village, Perdido it's 'Yay Day', where we have to compliment each other. It's all very lovely.

I'm finding fishing very difficult. My only source of cash at the moment seems to be apples. Can't find anything nice for my room.

Any tips for n00bz, like me?
