Lula - It's well early, so my brain might not be functioning properly, but this site seems to have the goods...

http://www.divx-digest.com/software/3gp_converter.html might help you. It seems, from what I can see, to be an unrestricted program... Then again, it's in Japanese. That might be a bit limiting.

Thank you very much indeed .trampetunia, that's worked. Thanks for the advice too red concrete.

Fellows, does anyone know where I might find a sentence of text with a conservation message designed to be added to an email signature? Something like

"Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail"

Maybe with a nice little icon?

I've just tried Google but haven't come up with much. I know this seems very lazy of me, but you don't have to respond and I am hella busy today.

I know polar bears don't, but do walruses eat penguins? I know polar bears attack walruses which implies they both live in the Arctic northern hemisphere (penguins live in the Antarctic) but walruses could live in both, couldn't they? Or are they Arctic only?

I have tried the internets but keep coming up with children's essays and I don't get the impression they know much more than me.

My guess is, they all (polar bears, penguins, walruses and related species) rather just eat fish.

Walruses are large semi-aquatic mammals that live in the cold Arctic seas of the Northern Hemisphere.

So it would seem not. Also their diet seems pretty mollusc-tastic, and they look a bit too heft to chase a penguin...

How does one make a flash animation?

Actually, I've just found out. New question, is there a way to do it without paying for the macromedia program? And is it only possible to do it on Windows or could my Ubuntu box do it too?

Princess

Actually, I'm not so bothered about it being in flash.
I just want to make short story animations on a computer using scanned images. Anyway of doing that would be great.

So, if (for example) I wanted to hack into the bank of englands website, how would I do that?

Ask a l337 hacker to help.

Here's question- I'm wanting to start a thread on bullying and I don't know where to put it. Which forum should a thread on bullying go in?

Depends what you want from it, dunnit. I'd put it here personally as I expect it'll lend itself strongly to anecdotes and suchlike

I almost agree, because it would also get more traffic, which would be valuable - but maybe it's a headshop thing? It depends what slant you're looking to use, I suspect.

The choice, as they say, is yours.

Okay, here's a weird one for ya: My sister just went for an ultrasound scan and there's something a bit weird in one of the pictures- the face of Jesus. This isn't the firsttime this has happened, but hopefully there's a bit of money in it, which would come in handy when the baby comes.
So, what's the best way to capitalise on this miraculous appearence?

Spaniel

I was thinking more practically in that I think people will post anecdotes wherever it's put, and anecdotes and stuff are most at home in Convo.

Unfortunately, we couldn't pay more than, oh, well, can't say exactly (and not in a public forum if I *could*), but it'd be in the low 3 figures. Not enough to matter. You could probably do the same (or, more likely, a little bit better) in a few different countries.

Lately, it seems like the way to really capitalize on these things is to sell the original on eBay -- that's what the dental X-ray dude did, I think.

This does, by the way, make for a very good story, because of the baby connection.

Weddell seals eat a variety of fish, squid, and have even been reported eating penguins.

That's what wanted to avoid. I think I'll either wait for something to come up in the news and put it in switchboard, or put it in Headshop as a spinoff of the home schooling thread.

Have looked for the old Barbelith flatshare thread under "flat", "room" and "rent". Not there. Can anyone find it for me?

Not sure which one you want, but I just typed "flatshare" into this and dug up lots.

Please don't shout at me I'm having a bad day but can anyone tell me how we invite new members on or point to the FAQ?

Thank you.

And yes I have looked but probably not very well.

Well, there's an ethical dilemma...

Technical question: if you have a 2/5" hard drive caddy, will any 2.5" hard drive work if put inside it, assuming that the hard drive is not broken? Will they all work on USB power? There doesn't seem to be a separate power bus, although the caddy has a 6v power socket...

Haus, give us some brand names and model #'s please. 'Cause off the top of my head I'd say no. Need to know what the drive is and what it is attaching to. I can look it up fairly quickly with that info.

My question:

I'm trying to make an unsweetened egg custard. I've never had one so I'm not sure what's supposed to be like. However my result is more omelette like than pudding like, I suspect there's an issue with not adding sugar? Helps?

Oh, well, that's it, XK. I don't have a hard drive yet - I was wondering which one to get.

Ticker

Ah so give me the other info, on the part you're connecting it to. I can see what brands and models it takes.

I suspect it will be generic Korean kit, but I'll see if it has any distingishing features this evening, XK. Ta muchly.

XK, I don't know what you're making it for but baked savoury custard takes a long time and if you cook it too quickly it can end up a bit like a bad omlette. Perhaps that's what's going wrong?

Haus, a laptop (2.5") IDE hard drive typically has 44 pins, while a dektop (3.5") has 40. The laptop gets its +5v supply through two of the extra pins, while the desktop has a separate power connection. If your caddy supplies a 44 pin connection it should work fine.
