Simon Adebisi! Brilliant.
i know! i hardly recognised him without his tiny gravity-defying hat!!!

so yes yet again tonight's episode pretty much "owned" as they say, and can we throw in about eight million omgs + wtfs for good measure?

two bits were of a particularly high quality i felt:
1) sawyer and michael's scene when sawyer collapsed. in particular that one fantastic moment from josh holloway: "i *did* leave you behind" ... oh the guilt!

2) michelle rodriguez's unspoken admission that she had been too hard on sawyer when she pitched in to help carry him. that had me (like) totally choked up.

and it looks like its her story next week ... should be interesting!!

Yeah, I'm really quite hopeful we'll just get an entire backstory for the tailsection folk - it's generally a pretty neat narrative trick played right, and - of course - will feature more Adebisi (Mr. Echo is a good name, though. Keep reading those comics, boys! I love him; although, I do wish his delivery was a little more heavily Nigerian accented.) and possibly a hat perched on his head at a physically *difficult* angle.

Sawyer's great, too; I just gush for his whole emotional perversity deal - the exchange where Michael had to clarify he'd actually been shot trying to save Walt was really excellent. Yeah, don't take credit for one of your few good deeds, Sawyer. You're so awesome.

Also, noticed Jack rushing past in the hospital where Shannon's dad died; I'm beginning to wonder if the 'real' story is somehow laid out in these tiny modal interlocks from the flashbacks? Lovely, anyway; last three eps have all been solid.

I'm still watching this, which is really irritating as I'm sure I could use that hour each week for something more productive.

Still find the flashbacks mondo annoying and a transparent device to cut back on the time needed to be spent on the island. Apart from Jack's flashback in the first episode what have the others contributed?

Damn it, I wish I could stop this horror...

How hard can it be to just not watch a TV programme?

Incidentally, for anyone like me who's still interested and doesn't want spoilers, I checked out the US thread and the first 16 pages are good to go; lotsa stuff well worth checking there (do like Chad's theory,) although some of the links are old, rusty and no longer work.

Chad's theory? The purgatory thing? Wouldn't call that Chad's theory, that's just a bloody obvious bloody popular and rather boring hypothesis that has ceased to smell at all right.
It's such a well worn line of thinking that the show's producers have poked fun at it in the podcast.

Flowers, do try to stop watching. There was pretty similar commentary to your own in the US thread and it was boring the shit out of everyone.

Lost isn't genius telly, it's a mindless, addictive soapy drama with some sci-fi and mystery thrown in to add a special crunchy texture.

Oh I dunno. The first series left me utterly cold and irritated the hell out of me. This series feels like genius, really enjoying how it's put together.

Boboss, isn't Chad on about time going backwards and shit there? Obviously not the purgatory theory, no.

Genius? You're gonna have your work cut out persuading the Boboss on that score.

I should point out that I love Lost.

Yep, I'm with you now, Dunc. While I think Chad's theory goes some way towards an elegant explanation of all the synchronicitous, flukey stuff, I think he sums up its major flaw with this

This is some heavy shit for ABC

Yes, indeed. And there's other probs too, but you don't want to know about that.

I don't get excited about much TV, but this series is really doing it for me. Loving the characters, the elliptical plot looping around the same events from different perspectives, the interesting plot devices... all the stuff everyone else liked in series one but which left me cold have come together for me into this gorgeous multi-level synaesthetic TV experience. Add it up and it looks like genius to me

I get it now. The island is a psychiatric hospital. It's the only possible explanation of how a group of paranoid people with a tendency to hallucinate, murder and committ heinous acts of violence ended up on this island together.

Either that or this is the latest version of big brother, with contestants picked for their entertainment value.. scarily enough, this is not actually that far away from the truth. Lost started out as proposal for a reality TV show, back when an executive at ABC thought that the channel should just make reality tv shows...

Haven't read every word in thread religiously but felt like sharing a musing,

The island station was set up as an experiment on the nature of faith - ask people to carry out an essentially meaningless ritual (type the numbers into a compooter) and see who follows, who questions, who rebels.
The miracles and monsters in the jungle are there to further test subjects resolve - believers will take as evidence that there's a higher power at work, doubters ascribe to mental trick, or coincidence.

mmm...
