Thought I would come back and say that after trying a bunch of different schools - most either with teachers who didn't seem very good at explaining things, or just kind of like aerobic classes with punches and kicks - I've very happily settled on a small dojo right near my work. I'm doing wing chung and BJJ, and really loving BJJ. It's so amazingly strategic - from each position, figuring out the best submission to try for, setting them up by faking different techniques, and then being ready for the counter you think the other guy will use. So many counters and recounters! And the teacher's great - explains everything starting really simply, then building complexity. Plus, omplatas fucking rule. I dunno how you spell them (it's a shoulder lock), but I could drill them all day. |
