Hello lateshifters.

bad luck isn't brought around by broken mirrors, but by broken minds

But what kind of mind brings about good luck? Let me know 'cause I'll start collecting them like rabbit's foots.

Talking of different perspectives. Look what's on Channel 4 (UK) after 'Shameless'!

I love people who love animals!

Disclaimer: I didn't mean to offend zoophiles, or their partners with my last post. Sheesh, this "trying to live your life and not offend anyone unnecessarily" business is harder than it looks.

Don't you worry paranoidwriter. If I had a telly I'd be tempted to watch it. Taboo and Desire was one of the main things that interested me in anthropology and still does.
Bestiality doesn't fan my flames though.

Nor mine. But I also find how we form our sexual desires and taboos interesting and important.

Shame you haven't got a telly. This program is actually quite good, and is handling the issues with sensitivity, which is good (IMHO).

Hi, I'm not watching the programme as I'm surgically attached to the Big Brother live feed. I've opened all the windows, there's a very nice breeze running through my living room.

There is of course a problem with form and netiquette when discussing a British TV show on the non-geographical internet. For example Keggers AFAIK being Canadian.

...

paranoidwriter *sensitive* documentaries like that do make me wonder what/which confrontations with the Other still remain unaccceptable.

Hmm... Necrophilia?

BTW, did anyone see what happened to Tom Cruise at that film premiere today? I was thinking about it and I reckon he handled it brilliantly (and he has thus gone up in my estimation). Of course, "You live by the sword, ...", etc, but that bottle (or whatever it was) could have been filled with acid and not water.

I'm no lover of Cult of Celebrity, but I can see this type of thing getting worse. After all, the "attacker" was supposed to be a member of the media. I guess, we always knew you couldn't trust "The Media" (being another leviathan which is constitued by members who never acknowldege their true roles and see it almost as an "it").

That's why I love Anonymity (and long may it last!). Hmm... Would anyone be interested if I started a thread about Anonymity in (say) the Art (etc) fora soon? e.g. Slipknot, Banksy, etc. Has this been done before here? Links anyone?

Woo.. very fuckin drunk, and about to go sleepy.
Suspiria still ver good film make no sense.

Get the Sun for today, probably actually yesterday now, the 20th. Good picture of Tom Cruise getting sprayed with water... it looks like hollywood bukkake, man, 'tis funny.

Sleep.

Yup, Tom Cruise handled it great. Now the actual paparazzi should take the guy into a dark allyway and kick his ass until he realizes he may have made the wrong career choice.

Hi Nina/Anna De Lo - Only been getting BB second hand from the Film thread. You finding it as engaging as the others?

paranoidwriter -
Anonymity? Foucault springs to mind or "In praise of blandness" which was chinese I think... Cannot remember any threads on it.
One of the reasons I like Team America so much was that it knocked the uniformed celebraties who are the media's acceptable face of the Left.

23:18 / 20.06.05
Lo all.

I know what you mean about Tom Cruise, para. I thought he handled it perfectly. I believe the 'reporter' is a prankster from Channel 4's 'Grand Classics' project. But they seem to be setting the bar pretty low on both counts if this stunt is indicative. So he wasn't part of 'the media' in the sense Cruise thought he was. And I enjoy seeing celebrities humiliated as much as the next cunt, but I think that gag panned out pretty much as it should have done.

Anonymity came up briefly in the Watched v Unwatched thread, by the way. I think a thread could be interesting - perhaps in a wider context than art though.

Sorry, I'm being a very dull lateshifter. Has someone shouted 'Pie!' yet?

I would love you to start any thread in AFD that you wanted to. We're sadly lacking in traffic at the moment.

I find it compelling to a degree but I get annoyed by the rehashing of the same conversations between housemates year after year. The notion of gameplans and the discussion of people's character flaws is always coming up but there isn't any real analysis... and of course the same old personalities seem to discuss backstabbing. I want to see Saskia and Maxwell discuss Craig, not Vanessa and Makosi.

Okey-dokey (sorry, just rushed off to have a tepid bath: nice), I'll draft something soon and decide where to post it from there. I'll also re-check the threads already mentioned. This is right up my street, so I'm glad (some of) y'all are interested.

I'm all hot and grumpy, GGM. This talk of tepid baths and cool scalps is making me sweat with envy. Feels like it's a million degrees here; humidity: swimmable. How come it seems to be hotter at night than it is in the day? Bed never felt less inviting. And lo, Lateshift.

Ah, see tiny grasshopper, I walked home in the comfortable 1.00am air, to my place by the sea, to bask in the cool of a shaved scalp.

(admittedly, it's at this time of year that living in a basement comes into it's own...)

ah, but you live in the glamorous citeeeeee. Just pretend yr in a Woody Allen film and go sit on the fire escape, smoking, noirishly...

Goodness Gracious Meme
23:52 / 20.06.05
oh, and on 'hotter at night', could that be smog/pollutions levels? (or am I just making up vague pseudo-scientific bollocks? You decide.)

Smoothly
23:55 / 20.06.05
Yeah, but it's Tom Cruise they squirt cold water at, never me, oh no.
And I would find a fire escape to sit on, if it wasn't for the crazies having fights with themselves on the street below.

Maybe it's pollution. Someone said something about cities absorbing heat by day and then spewing it out at night like a heat exchanger, but that was probably bollocks also. (There, see how I decided?)

Saint Keggers
23:56 / 20.06.05
maybe you should hang aroud Tom Cruise and 'take one for the Tom' next time someone tries to water him. You will be doing both him and yourself a service.

00:00 / 21.06.05

Oh come on guys, where's the Katie Holmes joke? *sigh*

Kemal and Anthony are talking about how much Anthony fancies Makosi. Poor Anthony is the sex kitten of BB 2005 but why? Look at his facial hair. He's just not that hot.

Saint Keggers
00:12 / 21.06.05
Hey nobody makes jokes about Katie! She single handedly saved Batman Begins!!

(ok, I just made a Katie joke)
