He did actually PM me to deny this. I suppose I can grease up my block and tackle and, with the aid of a few burly fellows, suspend disbelief that there are two guys out there with exactly the same posting style, refusal to engage in any meaningful way with anyone else on the board, obsession with the Temple forum ect.

Altogether now-- h-e-a-v-e!

He does appear to have given up posting for now of his own accound. We'll see.

BTW, the Quimper suit is currently known as "Darkmatter"; I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if it pops up again now...

Are we certain of that? Did ze have multiple suits, or slip in under the radar of the new system?

Hmm. I have a vague feeling that Quimper and Quimper666 were two different suits, and that Quimper666 changed his name to macrophage, Quimper to darkmatter...

Not sure, though - can we check IP addresses on this one? TBH, I find the idea that two very stupid people should post in the same way not entirely incredible...

Sorry - above based on username confusion. Edit in the pipeline...

Last night macrophage posted in:

AFD completely ignoring the topic and opting instead for a general overview of art that he likes.
Switchboard, in which he both repeated and confused the discussion that had already taken place and
Head Shop where he posted a new topic that doesn't seem to be particularly inclined towards the forum. In Laboratory he managed a post that seems to be on topic.

Has anyone tried to pm him about his posting style?

Also in Temple, but pretty on-topic there.

Ze's hit-and-miss.

No he isn't. There's nothing in that Temple response that suggests that he has read the thread, or thhat he has any interest in reading it. He's consistent in his indifference to other people's content.

The Switchboard post's just bollocks, really... wouldn't say it actually crossed the line into trolling (maybe he's getting better?.... nah, probably just luck), although with the stuff about "Isreal" I'm starting to wonder if he's getting mixed up with the evil cat off The Smurfs...

I'd like to be optimistic and say that there seems to be a shred of quality coming into these posts. Like his "traveller's rights" one which seems to make at least some kind of sense, though whether he actually travelled with all these people he mentions could be...controversial. Are we going to reply to that thread or not?

ONLY NICE THINGS

I've moved to have it moved to the Switchboard. It is, again, almost entirely innocent of content - he's just rambling on about his personal experiences, whether real or imagined. If you want to have a go at engaging him on the legal rights of travelling people, go for it.

Who is Traveller Right, and which possession of his/hers is Macrophage talking about?

(In other words, could some kind moderator airbrush out the superfluous apostrophe in his thread title, puhlease?)

Which kind of begs the question - why dump it into the switchboard - surely it is better off in the conversation where it can reside with the flotsam and jetsum, finding the response it deserves?

Weeelll... as far as turd-polishing goes, there is possibly a decent thread to be made from that crap starting post. Nina's post is a big move in the right direction... I say leave it in Switchboard for a few more posts, see which way it goes. It is a Switchboard issue, I'd say... and it could yet be a Switchboard thread.

I'd argue that there might be a switchboard topic on the subject of travelling communities, but this isn't it.

Well, yeah, I wouldn't put money on it, but I'd give it a shot. I know "shit threads turning good" is a far rarer commodity than "good threads turning shit", but I'd personally give it a day or two.

Note- I'm not actually too bothered if people DON'T want to give it a chance... I just don't really see what we have to lose by holding fire for a while.

As someone asked above, has anyone PMed him? I wondered if he'd picked up on the critque of his posting style from a few weeks ago and gave it a rest for a while. Now he's back, his posts are a lot different from what he was posting previously - less exclamation marks for one thing, less totally disconnected random burbling. More of an attempt to engage, I thought.

(Thinx: Why I am so nice? I normally get proved wrong on this sort of thing...)

No, I think you're right- there has been a noticeable difference. I'd say caution's still a good idea, though.

Morpheus is back too, in the threads on Hurricane Katrina, where there's a very real possibility he could cause huge offense and upset to people... not that he has yet, afaik, just thought I should alert everyone.

Can someone who mods in that forum delete his posts? At least, the ones that are offensive/make attacks on other posters etc.

I PMed macrophage a few days ago. He was quite upset about this thread, as you'd expect from any person if you were talking about them rather than to them. Do you think that next time whoever starts talking about someone in a thread like this could at least make sure they'd politely PMed them first. Just because someone's writing seems confused doesn't mean they're a troll. This isn't hazing, this actually is bullying and we shouldn't take this approach until we're certain someone's fucking around. I stand by this even if macrophage proves me wrong.

Frankly I think the Travellers thread could very easily be a Switchboard thread. It says so much about the structure of barbelith that every single post has to refer to the first in a thread if it's started by someone unrecognised. It would hardly be off topic to write about any political issue regarding travellers in there. What I see here is bias against the thread, which is absurd, it's perfectly fine, it was only posted in the wrong forum which happens all the time.

Well I don't know who the hell are Quimper666 & Dark Matter, and I have nothing to do with them.

I admit I have not read all of the content of the threads, and I have been doing recently. I have also tried to rectify my Grammar style.

As for travelling I have travelled for 12 years, don't try and belittle me, grow up. Travelling was my life and it will be soon again. That's personal.

I apologise to Nina Skryty for my email to her I was upset with this thread, I saw it as a slur. I never bothered to say anything, I didn't want to cause any commotion.

I don't claim to be a politically correct person, not all of us can correct our grammar all of the time.

I find it highly interesting the people who started this thread and the attitude they fronted like a persona.

It reminds me of the time when about a gang of 20 of us kicked a nazi skinhead in, in Leeds, when I look back on that I see it as mindless mob violence, it didn't really strike a blow for anarchism and the hard left against nazism at all. Bullying is crass.

We all learn from our mistakes.

Okay, I for one accept that you didn't actually come around here with malice at heart. I'm sorry I didn't respond to the PM you sent me in person--I tried, but I got so wound up and angry each time that in the end the best thing seemed to be to step away from the keyboard.

I'm also sorry you feel you're being or have been bullied here. Guess what? A lot of people on this board feel bullied, or put-upon, or harrassed, or just plain in disagreement with the world at large. We're not a nice warm bland soup of PC contentment waiting for some lively Alka-Seltzer of a poster to fizz us all up.

I've read your recent posts and you honestly do seem to be trying to engage with the board. No-one's asking you for letter-perfect typing or pristine grammar (fuck, if those were requirements I'd've had my fingers broken by my fellow mods years ago) but it helps if you try to show how your post links into a topic, rather than expecting everyone else to follow your train of thought down a branch-line. A lot of times when I read what you write, it feels more like someone's personal blog entry--rather than a board post where you're responding to previous messages and inviting engagement from subsequent posters.

I hope this helps.

Good suggestions from Mordant, I think. Also, you may want to avoid using the term "political correctness", especially when you don't have a clear picture of what you're trying to mean by it - it's likely to derail discussions.

According to the Policy front page, this thread was last replied to at 23:02 09.09.05. But the post above this is (should be) 10:41 04.09.05.

How's that happened?

That was worrying me, too... I can only assume a post was deleted.

Nope. When the latest reply to a thread gets deleted, the index page doesn't notice.

Usually posts that are being deleted are in really fast threads so the index changes very quickly afterwards.

Oh and quite often they're not the most recent posts either.

I'm surprised that more ancient threads aren't brought back to life by some instantly deleted moronism, then remain as if bumped without comment.
