However, there are a lot of suits that exhibit at least some of those characteristics - so, where does the line get drawn? Is it that Morpheus is particularly offensive in his choice of venue, posting gloating messages in threads about the London bombings and Hurricane Katrina?
In a way, yes, but I wouldn't say it was a matter of taste or offensiveness. It's one of netiquette - from what I've seen, the guy has nothing invested in the board, nor the discussions that take place on it. He just sees a thread title that has some vague link to whatever it is that he wants to bang on about at that moment in time, then jumps straight in and does so, without even stopping to check if it has any relevance to the rest of the thread's content.
He's not the first prophet of the apocalypse we've had here, but previous ones have all had the good grace to post their stuff in their own threads, or else adapted and changed when it's been made apparent that their way of going about things isn't particularly appreciated.
Maybe a period of, I dunno, warning or something could work. A PM with something along the lines of "Look, you're being a prick and here's why: blahblahblah. If you can demonstrate the ability and the desire to stop being deliberately offensive, to stop attempting to derail threads, to present your arguments in a more coherent manner [or whatever everybody sees the real issues as being here] then there's no problem. On the other hand, if you're still being a prick in X months' time, your login will be removed from the board." Although maybe with stuff like "prick" replaced by something a little less abrupt.
I don't even mind lizard talk all that much. It can be pretty entertaining, when there's some thought put into it and when it's confined to its own space.
Btw, in the above posts I'm not saying "yes, we should definitely kill the suit," just, "well, would killing the suit actually do any bad, or would it instead do us some good?" |
