Prepare for total domination.

Too late. I have already suggested a DanceDance Revolution dance off to another member and am now inviting all comers to joint public humiliation should you be in the area.

Lest we all forget...

Dude! Charrelz! Have you been dancing yet? Was it a success? Did you wave your hands in the air like you just didn't care?

I'd just like to share a little factoid about goths:

An acquaintance of mine once undertook to study goths from an anthropological standpoint and decided that they were merely a nocturnal species of hippy.

No, dancing has not yet occured, though I will be sure to let everyone know how it goes (possibly illustrated too!). I'm enjoying the twists and turns this thread has taken.

Dude, have you seen the pictures on that website? Dancing is not an option for many of these people. Walking is going to be a challenge. Just wear a full-length corset dress and drink through a straw. Everything will be fine.

If you've already got the girlfriend, and am going to the club as a favor for her, that takes a ton of the pressure off. It's when you have to go out dancing to attract girls that the pressure is really on. Even if you bomb, you did her the favor of going, so she can't really blame you for not being good.

dancing to attract girls

This is a fundamental mistake. Going out dancing in order to attract girls is like climbing Everest in order to catch tropical fish or invading Iraq in order to reduce terrorism. Not that if you go out dancing, you won't necessarily attract people. But if you go out dancing with that as your primary motivation, then you will in all likelihood be a) disappointed, and b) a wanker, not a dancer.

If you're over the age of twenty, probably.

Again, if you're an adult.

Pulling was certainly a motivation when I was a teen (although not a primary one) and it never got in the way of me having a good time dancing (for its own sake).

I enjoyed dancing. I was quite good at it. Girls liked that I was good at it. Because girls liked that I was good at it it helped me pull. I enjoyed dancing even more.

No disppointment, no wankerish behaviour, just a good time had by all.

I find good dancers sexy. Dancing can also be a harmless flirtation.

I find good dancers sexy too - but I would bet good money that those dancers are not doing it to try to pull.

I think we need to distinguish from dancing in order to pull - which would be stupid and likely ineffectual, and dancing as an aid to pulling.

I should stress that my dancepulling days are long, long, looong behind me.

But there is an element of it - boys and girls. Sure dancing's a personal thing primarily, and if you're having a good time then it tends to show. But the desire to look attractive or to attract someone is often there, and it's not necessarily wankerish. If it's your sole intention, then, yes, wankerishness is probably the oreder of the day, but I don't see it as an absolute.

Very true. This thread is also missing the point that dancing and showing off are closely related. That's not to say that all dancing is necessarily showing off, but that dancing contains an element of performance and for some people (lots of people, probably) this will be of some importance.

It's when you start trying to pull your ancestral spirits that it gets messy...
