Me being the huge fan of the Bruce Timm animated DCU stuff, I checked out the Superman/Doomsday new direct-to-video animated movie. If the last two seasons of Timm's JLU were a 10 out of 10, this first offering from DC's new direct-to-video program gets a 9 out of 10 for me. Aside from a few weird moments or weak bits, I found it totally entertaining and at times, very inventive and bold. Adam Baldwin doesn't sound totally right as Superman, but after you get used to him for a while, it pretty much works. Same thing with Anne Heche as Lois, although I'd say I warmed to her Lois quicker than I did to Baldwin's Supes.

James Marsters (yes, that Buffy guy) totally rocks as Luthor. A unique take on Luthor's voice & style that completely works from moment 1.

Check it out. I'd say it's worth buying or renting; not quite as good as the best of JLU but still quite good.

Next on the DC direct-to-video plate: NEW FRONTIER, which Darwyn Cooke himself is putting together with Bruce Timm & Co. That should really be something special. A trailer/preview of the video, now online, seems to reveal that they will actually use JFK's real speech as the v/o recording for the finale of the film, as in the comic. Joy!

I watched New Frontier, but wasn't as in love with it as I'd thought I would be.

I'm bumping this more because of the announced Brave and the Bold: Batman series that starts pretty soon in the US. It looks great fun and finally a Blue Beetle that DC can use is a cartoon!

I seem to recall the New Frontier cartoon boring me to tears, all the interesting stuff from the comic stripped away completely.

Don't know if we need yet another Battoon, but we'll see about Brave the Bold. Maybe he'll team up with the Doom Patrol or the Metal Men.

Batman, Brave and the Bold seems to be more light-hearted and fun in the style of Teen Titans and Legion OSH. The first episode played like a fun and silly space adventure. I think it will be more for the enjoyment of seeing some characters realised than anything else.

This week also sees the release of Superman: Doomsday, which looks okay, but so far little has lived up to the Cadmus on going story from JLU.

Sorry for the tenuously linked thread input.

I've really been enjoying The Brave and the Bold so far. It's great -- simple, goofy, Silver Age, and funny. This animated Batman has about six hundred times more nuance than Bale's version.

I though the first B&B episode was really forced; every few seconds, a character shouted "look at all my silver age camp!"

The entire atmosphere felt calculated, rather than spontaneous.

Have you seen the latest episode with the All-New Atom and Aquaman? Yeeeesh. This'll set Aquaman back to 1950. (On the other hand, how can you NOT love Ze Brain, eh?)
