Crap! I was all geared up to watch the Legion episode last night only to discover that Cartoon Network pulled it. I am so pissed.

you mean the 'Legion of Doom', right, not Legion of Superheroes ? (they're planning of Legion of SH show)

Also, Season One of JL is NOW AVAILABLE on DVD in a nice boxed set. 4 discs, a few good extras. So glad these are out on DVD now. I think Season Two is due for release in July or August, IIRC.

D'oh!! Confounded long-term memory! Thanks

I was watching "The Savage Time," the 3-parter that finished season 1 on the new JL DVD...it's a lot of fun, Sgt. Rock is in it. I'm just not very keen on the voice they used for Vandal Savage. I picture him sounding more like...oh, I dunno, maybe the first guy who played The Master on Dr. Who...?

Matt Wayne, writer of the comic book of JLU, said this in a recent Newsarama interview:

>> “This is the end, but Bruce Timm is not done with the DC universe of characters,” Wayne said. “He’s doing some direct-to-video stuff starting with ‘Superman: Brainiac Attacks‘ and a couple others I can‘t talk about.”

It still isn't really clear to me if Timm & his production staff will be working on the new Legion of Super-Heroes cartoon or if that show be will run by someone else, the way Teen Titans was done by a group other than Timm & co.

But this tidbit from Wayne is encouraging that Timm will do more DCU stuff beyond the direct-to-video Superman/Braniac movie.

On the Justice League Season One DVD commentaries & special features, they have a primitive trailer for an earlier proposed version of the show that would have had the Big 3 plus Robin and Impulse, plus another teenage kid DCU character. Very glad they didn't go with this version (of course at first the network was like 'put more kids in it so the kids watching can identify with them')...I never felt like cartoons with adult characters alienated me when I was a kid. I never thought when I was 10 "Oh, man, Super Friends sucks because they're all grown-ups."

So Timm won't be working on the Legion cartoon after all, it seems...

>> Toon Zone has the network's description of the futuristic feature: "One thousand years from now, a group of teenage super heroes travel back in time to recruit the greatest hero of all, Superman, and enlist him their fight against evil in the 31st Century. While their intentions were good, their time travel skills were not, and Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Phantom Girl, Bouncing Boy and Timber Wolf end up going too far back into the past, accidentally retrieving the young Superboy instead. Together, this unlikely Legion of Super Heroes bands together to defend the rights of all free worlds and uphold the laws of the newly formed United Planets. That is, if they don't kill each other first.

Legion Of Super Heroes combines humor with high-stakes, grand-scale super heroics to create the ultimate sci-fi, super hero fantasy for kids of all ages. Each episode of this fast-paced, character-driven action comedy will pit Superboy and the Legion against otherworldly threats and adversaries who challenge the team on both super heroic and emotional levels. The series is executive produced by Sander Schwartz, and produced by Linda Steiner and James Tucker for Warner Bros. Animation."

I do recognize the name James Tucker; he worked on a lot of Justice League episodes (writing and producing I believe; maybe directing as well).

there was a post on Aint It Cool News which stated the following:

>> NOT the end of Justice League
by lobot72 May 14th, 2006

I'm not sure where all this end of the Justice League stuff came from, and why everyone seems to believe it. An old college buddy of mine works for Time Warner, Cartoon Networks parent company, and he said that the show is on "hold" until later next year. Apparently DC wants more focus on the up coming Superman Returns and a few other projects that are in the works. He said that he has heard around the office that DC is working on some early drafts for Wonder Woman and Green Lantern movies. [presumably he means animated movies here, since we all know Joss is doing the WW movie - Finder.] ...so hopefully he is right and we will see Justice League later down the road, and seeing how that last episode left some questions behind, like Batman saying he doesn't believe Luthor or darkseid was destroyed, then perhaps the show will be back.

Now, the poster after that basically said "I'll believe it when I see it."

Anybody seen the episode Destroyer at all? Spoilers warning.

So Darkseid and Superman get into this incredible fistfight. First, DS kicks Supes' ass while Batman and Lex Luthor try to get to safety. Then as soon as they're out of the way, DS punches Supes from the roof of the Daily Planet to the bottom floor. Then brings the place down on Supes' head. Supes gets out the rubble and says, "I live in a cardboard world, always being careful, always watching myself. I want to thank you, Darkseid, for giving me the chance to let loose."
Superman then punches Darkseid so fast that it breaks the sound barrier. What ensues is a full on brawl. It's fucking amazing. For me personally, as a casual fan of Superman, it was the all-time best fucking Superman moment ever! Ever! Ever! It doesn't get much better than that.

I'll miss you Justice League.

Vol. 2 of animated JL box set and Vol. 3 of Superman animated box set should be out this week.

Along with the new direct-to-video Superman movie with Tim Daly & Dana Delany back as Clark and Lois (but no Clancy Brown as Luthor! damn!), called "Braniac Attacks." (not to be confused with The Incredibles "Jack Attack") Aint It Cool News reviewed the video and said it was mediocre, better than the direct-to-video "Mystery of the Batwoman," however. They said the Luthor characterization was more silly/jokey/overacting than in previous animated Luthor versions, and that Supes made a decision about telling Lois his Big Secret.

And in a recent Newsarama interview, artist Dave Johnson, who has done a lot of design work and storyboarding for the Bruce Timm animated DCU world, said:

>> DJ: Well, right now I'm working on the crew for the new WB show called Legion. It's being produced by James Tucker, who was Bruce Timm's right hand guy on Justice League. And so far it's shaping up pretty well. After that I'll be working on a new Bruce Timm project. From there it's up in the air at this point.

Note the penultimate sentence...a new Bruce Timm animated DCU project, hopefully? Time will tell...

Wil Wheaton will be voicing Cosmic Boy in the Legion animated series. A shame Timm is not part of it, I hope it is better then Teen Titans.

I like the sound of a new Timm project though, hopefully it will be DCU related.

Comic Book Resources reports:

>> When discussing the JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED DVDs, the confusion still reigns over the proper aspect ratio for the episodes of the first two seasons to be seen in. Here's the latest word direct from Warner Bros:

"The director requested the 4x3 letterbox for Justice League season 2. We have revisted [sic] this issue and will be releasing Justice League Unlimited Season 1 in 16x9"

And Vol. 2 of Justice League & Vol. 3 of Supes aren't out yet...sometime in the next few weeks, methinks. Just in time for the Superman film.

I kinda liked it: finally the aliens on the Legion of Super-heroes look a little bit, well, alien. But I hope they use more characters, like the Chameleon Boy (with the most creepy, slimy, cloacked Durlan looks, preferably), Triplicate Girl, Ferro, just to name a few.

And I hope to see them in a war against Darkseid and an army of Daxamites. But I mat be hoping for too much.

Is this the first time "I Was a Feral-Themed Badass Who Predated Wolverine By A Bunch Of Years" Timberwolf has actually been physically wolf-like? To my memory is is, but I'm not a Legion continuity expert.

From DVDActive:

Warner Home Video has announced the first season of Justice League Unlimited which adds many more of the superheroes from the DC Comics universe. This four-disc package will be available to own from the 24th October, and should retail at around $44.98 or thereabouts. According to our friends at TVShowsOnDVD.com, all 26 episodes will be included and each will be presented in an anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio of 1.78:1, along with creators commentary on "This Little Piggy" and "The Return", an And Justice for All featurette that looks at the Process of Revamping the Series with New Characters and a New Creative Direction, and a Themes of Justice feature in which you can choose your favorite JLU musical theme audio tracks. We've attached our first look at the artwork below.

Torrented the whole lot of them (I hope) a while back and have been steadily working my way through and have just reached the end of the Luthor/Brainiac/Cadmus storyline. This is probably, bar Doctor Who, the funnest TV experience I've had this year. It really rocks. The Question! The Question is just so great, for the reasons listed above! The episode where the core team get turned into kids and the boys start getting crushes on Wonder Woman/Girl! Continuity being used! Dr Hamilton turning on Superman and actually being allowed to have a perfectly acceptable reason and not be mind-controlled or duped. And then, when the team all clasp hands, together, to pull Wally back from the Speed Force, fuck yeah! And then finally, when Superman disbands the League Green Arrow, who has been one of the biggest critics within the League being the one to remind him that they can help people... Awww shucks!

So, I think I've got about eight episodes left after that. I better go find an episode list to make sure I've got all of them.

Wow, I finally started watching my season 1 DVD box set (of JLU) and now I see what all the praise was about...they really did some amazing things with this show. If you haven't checked it out, do yourself a favor and WATCH IT!! Truly fantastic stuff....there were many moments where I was actually afraid for the main characters (the highest praise I can give for adventure fiction, when you know your main characters/heroes will ultimately win, but the show/movie/story creates such suspense, tension, intensity and the illusion of serious danger for these characters that you feel fear for them).

Also, since Bruce Timm became a huge Joss Whedon fan right as they were beginning season 2 of Justice League, they end up having a Firefly/Angel reunion by using Gina Torres, Nathan Fillon, Amy Acker and Morena Baccarin for JLU. Jerry O'Connell voicing Captain Marvel is genius casting; ditto Jeffrey Combs brilliant take on The Question. It's just stunning, inventive storytelling that pushes the envelope in major ways. All the stuff the government and Project Cadmus often feels like an episode or scene from '24.' One highlight (out of many) is the Task Force X episode, where the de facto Suicide Squad infiltrates the Watchtower.

Seemingly unimpressive plot points, characters and devices from early JLU episodes all get used to great effect here and return in surprising ways. The show manages to deliver a fresh take on that old superhero chestnut theme, 'heroes lose the public's confidence/the public turns on the heroes/the government feels threatened by so many super-heroes running around.' I wouldn't have thought someone could tell a truly great, new story with that idea, but the producers and writers of JLU have really done it here.

Season 2 (the final box set of JLU) comes out in March, along with the final box set of Batman Beyond (which, amusingly enough, features Bruce Timm & co.'s first take on the Justice League, where Batman (Beyond) meets the future JLA, known as.... the JLU.

Not to mention Angel actor Juliet Landau and Firefly actor Adam Baldwin, as mentioned earlier in this thread (just re-read the whole thread)...

As for Bruce Timm, he's set to work on the direct-to-DVD adaptation of the Superman vs. Doomsday/Death of Superman story....and he might work on the adaptation of Darwyn Cooke's NEW FRONTIER, as well, from what I remember. They're doing an animated adaptation of the classic Wolfman/Perez story "The Judas Contract" - which will NOT be done in Bruce Timm's now-famous DC animated style, from previous interviews about it.

The final DVD of JLU is out....I've just started watching it. This is the 'second half' of JLU, with the "Legion of Doom" and modern spin on the "Hall of Justice" (which they call the "Metro Tower," I guess to emphasize that it's no longer a satellite complex orbiting the earth, with our heroes godlike looking down on us regular folk, since that was a theme of season 1 of JLU). Highly recommended stuff.

And Batman Beyond Vol. 3 is also out on DVD - this is the final collection of BB, with the episode that features the future Justice League, "The Call."

So that's it -- all the Bruce Timm DCU animated stuff is now on DVD. Next we have the Superman/Doomsday animated retelling direct-to-DVD (also produced and art directed by Bruce Timm) coming out in the fall. And then DC continues it's new 'direct to DVD' animated projects with Bruce Timm & Darwyn Cooke doing an animated "New Frontier," followed most likely by an adaptation of the Marv Wolfman/George Perez Teen Titans story "The Judas Contract." Yay!

I just watched the episode in which The Flash and Lex switch minds. What perfect voice work from the two actors. What great writing. I like how even the most throwaway of episodes actually advances the overall plot. And, how fucking awesome in Mister Terrific in this series? He puts J'onn to shame.

These are brilliant - the comedy-centric "Flash Museum episode" ep. was amazing and amazingly funny. Interesting how they introduce Linda Park but Flash pretty much ignores her. Alexis Denisof of Angel/Buffy does the voice of Mirror Master and I must say, his voice is unrecognizable.

Great treatment of Boston Brand/Deadman, and Luthor finally saying [about Grodd's 'Legion of Doom'] "You know, I was going to wait a few weeks to do this, but... SERIOUSLY, turning the world into apes? THAT was your big master plan???!?!" [shoots] lol. Clancy Brown rules.
