Hi Gale,

I really do like Chad's (now there's a name for ya) Sigel. I'll vote to give Bush the boot and see what Kerry will do. After all, the Bushes are "downstairs people" and it somehow ain't fittin' to have "the other George's seat" occupied by a bloke wot's not quite qualified to run the animal warden's department of some small semi-urban county.

Notice I said patriots, then conservatives, and I meant REAL conservatives, not the "neo-con" faction (really ex-Trotskyites) to whom Rush Limbaugh, "Free" Republic website et al belong. Some say the current so-called and self-styled "conservatives" are really controlled by the same Tribe of hateful "Irish Druids" wot controls the news media and "rules the world by proxy." I won't make such a statement, but I bet you are sharp enough to figure the truth out for yourself, if you cared to read all the (alleged) evidence. (Unless you're "Irish," of course :-) Many people who *are* sharp enough to figure it out don't care to know about it; and in a way, one cannot blame them for that, though 'tis oft said that willful ignorance is the only real sin. Perhaps we need a sigel 'gainst that.

Anyhow, I meant real conservatives, of which there are none to be heard on the controlled media in "Ameri-Kay" of late (last 2-3 decades, I guess). No real conservative would have sanctioned Bush's war (nor WWII, for that matter, nor most of the rest of 'our' wars and 'police actions').

Pesticide? Silly me; I meant to write "herbicide." Even though de dude's name ain't "Herb."

Oh, and I also mentioned libertarians, though for the most part they are a rather silly/useless bunch. Most do mean well, however.

Am I a conservative? Hmmmm.... I can't think of much worth conserving, these past several thousand years. Can you?

More on-topic than might be guessed...

Like the love spell gurus say..... maybe you shouldn't cast a love spell for a particular person (you might find you hate her), but for a result (e.g. to bring someone you won't hate so much, or will even lu...lu....lu...luv!)

Maybe instead of a Sigel against Bush, we need a Sigel against the kind of stuff da Bush do (that's "Bush doo," ta yu, Lulu), whether it be dooed by the dude "Double-Ewe" (his old Skull-n-Bones nickname) or by.... ta, daaaaah...... John (not quite 'F.') K(erry me back to the only game in town, where the (Col.?) House always wins). Hmmmm... is one allowed to nest parenthesis that way in here?

QUESTION #1: Can a meme act as a Sigel?

QUESTION #2: What the heck's a Meme?

QUESTION #3: If'n we could find out the answers to de foist two questions, would it be ungentlemanly for us to ask if we could spread her far and wide? That is, if we could get our hands on her in the first place? Meme, I mean?

Now then...

Here's a most insidious political poll. A real "Neutron Bomb for the mind of your average lemming-type political aficionado and red-blooded USAnian-wannabe. Doo check it out:

Black Magick Brainwash Poll

Read each possible answer very carefully, with an inkling building within your consciousness... an inkling as to who and what kind of "persons" concocted this juicy little poll. Notice how the "right" answers are all worded so as to make them sound either unpalatable (to joe sheeple), or downright disgusting. Then, go ahead and take the poll and see if you, like me, are one of them doity rats. EYE think if you have the SOUL to know what real jubiLATION means, you won't need to hang round playing whIST, whilst pretending not to be one-a dem daw-goned hateful creatures!

But who the heck am I to tell you what to believe? I only think you ought to be allowed to examine the facts and find out for yourselves, then have chance to make up your own minds. Kinda hard to do that, though, when the facts are either never mentioned, or phrased in words that cause your "pre-conscious filters" to associate them with "things nasty." That means, for those of you who flunked psych 101, that long before what are called your critical facilities "kick in," you will have decided to ignore or downgrade the bit in question. Just another technique brought to you by a soiten band of "merchants."

Magister L,

Thanks for your very interesting response.I took the neocon quiz, answered the questions honestly and came up as a liberal. No surprise there. Then I went back, and took it again, this time picking the answers that I believe our current administration would pick. I came up as a neoconservative. No surprise there, either.

Now, I don't watch television, listen to the radio, or read newspapers, because I discoverd that when I stopped, life got a lot better. I know what is going on in the world, and can guess the rest with alarming accuracy.

So, I don't feel that I am responding to some type of programming, but then... if I'm not, why do I dislike those neoconservatives so VERY much? And I mean the response is on a visceral level--I hate their guts. Perhaps that's clouding my judgment, but not enough to know that Kerry will be (has to be)better than Bush/Cheney. And so, the POTUS sigil is my weapon of choice.

Which rich white man are you voting for? I'm voting for the one who would pick the right answers in the neoconservative quiz.

>> I DON'T think Mr. L is pro-Bush.

Oh, I never thought so either. And I didn't mean to be argumentative about the discussion, I just think we gotta focus on getting the lesser of two evils at this point.

There's talk of Bush dumping evil mastermind Cheney as VP... esp. after Edwards being selected as Kerry's VP. But we'll see, who knows... just hope (and magickally work) for the best.

Which rich white man will I vote for? I'll tell you below.

Gale,

You ask the most important question of all when you say:

"... why do I dislike those neoconservatives so VERY much? And I mean the response is on a visceral level--I hate their guts."

The only way to improve upon your question would be to add a semi-colon and continue "...;is it possible that THEY feel the same way about me?"

Judging that you are of Hungarian or Sovak descent, you could probably have the answer to both parts of the question from some of your older relatives. I know the answer, but I don't want to say, because as you probably know, knowledge cannot be given or granted; knowledge must be earned. Ugh... that sounds a little bit too commerical. Knowledge must be aquired and made one's own, else it is but words. Also, I don't like to point the finger at only one group. All groups contain those who are going along with this program.

You've turned off the boob-making tube, and even the radio. You're one of a small minority. It does make a tremendous difference.

No analogy is perfect, but here's a good one. We live in an aquarium, of which we are unaware; we don't see the glass walls or notice the water in our lungs. Most of all, we don't notice the sinister figures moving around in the dark, on the other side of the glass. Sometimes they plop a few useful chemicals into our tank. Other times, they introduce a few "Tetras" or "Gouramis." Sometimes they add a predator or two, or a bottom feeder.

Both alleged "wings" of the political spectrum work overtime to obtain your sanction for their dastardly deeds. Both extend excuses so you will accept it when they do what should be unlawful, immoral, or repugnant.

The liberal Democrats make the excuse that "it's for the public good."

The conservative Republicans make the excuse that "It'll bring you money."

One gives up your rights for their temporary security; the other loves their money better than your freedom.

So, for whom will I pull the lever?
Here's the result of my answers to the Poll.

Isolationist

The term isolationist is most often used negatively; few people who share its beliefs use it to describe their own foreign policy perspective. They believe in "America first." For them, national sovereignty trumps international relations. Many unions, libertarians, and anti-globalization protesters share isolationist tenets.

Isolationists…

* Are wary of US involvement in the United Nations
* Oppose international law, alliances, and agreements
* Believe the US should not act as a global cop
* Support trade practices that protect American workers
* Oppose liberal immigration
* Oppose American imperialism
* Desire to preserve what they see as America's national identity and character

I really wonder what would happen if they held an election and almost nobody voted. Already most qualified voters don't bother. I've never observed an election that made a difference. Lending it your sanction just makes the process appear legitimate.
I'll probably go in and pull the lever for Kerry, but that's because I'd get a personal thrill from seeing Bush uprooted.

To keep with the Magickal subject of this thread, please allow me to title this post,

Maybe it would be a good idea for those with MSN to put the POTUS sigil as the personal photo, or avatar, so that other people will see it, even if they don't know what it is.

(I should probably do the same with my homeland's UNELECTED prime minister. Man, Portugal is going down too...)

An Invitation to Participate in a Magical Working on Lammas, 2004

Greetings.

We are inspired by the recent political witchcraft coming out of the Reclaiming community and are asking interested magical folks to consider joining in a Lammas working. The United States is at a pivotal point, with the current president mobilizing conservative religious forces for his re-election, in a high stakes political game that barely resembles democracy.

We are also inspired by a novel, Lammas Night by Katherine Kurtz, a fictional but credible account of Witches in England coming together across traditions on Lammas in 1940. In the novel, a cone of power was collectively raised, putting out the idea to Hitler that any attempt to invade England would fail. His plans to invade were retracted, perhaps due to strengthening of the magic through sacrifice.

On the eve of a US election, Americans are in a position of influence, towards the domestic election and the use of U.S. power in the world. We see the need for a cone of power aimed towards global justice and cooperation. The witches of Britain in 1940 considered how they would feed the cone of power they raised; we can consider the sacrifices we are prepared to make to empower our magic in 2004. Sacrifice means to make sacred; we see it as an act of choice, not passivity. What does the land need back from us at this season of the first harvest?

We offer some suggestions for your consideration:
-What am I willing to let go of in order to have more time, money, and energy to insist on a cooperative role for the U.S. on the world stage, rather than a domineering role?

-What do I need to let go of to move towards a world where there is fresh water for all, clean air, an ozone layer that protects us from the sun, a sustainable diverse agricultural base, etc? Are there "privileges" in my lifestyle that are contrary to this larger good that I can consider sacrificing?

-Do I have internal patterns of denial and individualism that I can consider sacrificing? How about letting go of disappointment in the Democratic candidate, or of the idea that this election is only a "U.S" issue, or that this money-run election is about democracy?

-What will most empower my spiritual work? Can I reach for deeper honesty? What about a sacrifice of the 'male principle' for revitalization? What sacrifice is mine to make?

We ask you to consider joining from across traditions of the craft to work together this Lammas, 2004. Consider meditating on what each of us is willing to sacrifice in order to empower our magic because "another world is possible." We affirm that "we are the change, we are the change we are waiting for, and we are dawning..." Sometime between the night of July 31st (the second full moon that month) and August 2nd you are invited to contribute to the cone of power raised for the greatest good of all. Picnic by moonlight. Plant a crystal to add to the web. Share this invitation with other Pagans, Wiccans, Witches, and anyone who is willing to join us. Clarify your intention. Offer up that which no longer serves you, or that which serves only you to the detriment of other parts of the interconnected web of life. Celebrate the first harvest, and add your energy, intensified by your sacrifice, to the cone of power aimed towards global justice and cooperation.

Please distribute this invitation widely...and it harm none, so mote it be.
Blessed be,
Selchie, of Ontario, Canada, and Grove, of Massachusetts, USA

I was in New Paltz, NY, last night and saw a POTUS sigil on a table near the entrance to a restaurant. I don't live in NP, and didn't put it there, but SOMEONE did! stuff like this will only help our cause:

from Yahoo News:

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."

Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we."

No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon (news - web sites) chiefs reacted.

The president was working his way toward a larger point. "We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country. We must always be forward-thinking," he said.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush's misstatement "just shows even the most straightforward and plain-spoken people misspeak."

"But the American people know this president speaks with clarity and conviction, and the terrorists know by his actions he means it," McClellan said.

It's a long while since I've visited this site, and this thread is wonderful to find. I will be planting the POTUS and trying to do my part, but I'd like to talk about my own little anti-Bush theatrics not to long ago, if for no other reason than I have no where else to vent this.
Early May I went to Washington D.C. for the first time. Walking around I was floored at the massive amount of occult texture latticed everywhere throughout the city. From the giant Obelisk to the enormous Scottish Freemasonry building to the goddamn intricatly designed sidewalk ironwork surrounding the trees. The layout of the streets, everything. Usually when I travel I try and tap into the vibe of a city, walking the streets with my nose down for stray clues and relics, investigating 'sacred spots' like underpasses and off-the-beaten-path forested areas, or even just riding the subways at night and whatnot. D.C. However gave me the hebegebes (not to get too technical). The statues, everything. So I improvised a little working where in order to empower my sigil, I became the opposition. I went into a Starbucks (something I never do if my caffeine addicted a@# can help it) and drank a shitty coffee while drawing up a 'get-GWB-out-of-power sigil. I left it scrawled in the bathroom.
Next I went to McD's (another thing I never do) and ate a shitty meal before leaving said sigil in the bathroom.
Next my girlfriend and I walked around for hours and I used my Sharpie over and over everywhere I could, discretely leaving the sigil on walls, park benches, whatever I could (gotta be careful as every crime in DC is federal, including graffiti). Now that I have come back to the internet cosmos I will hopefully post said symbol if anyone else wants to toss it around as part of the ideal of this thread (Yeah, since then I have come to think there is more than just getting idiot-A out of office, but this could be one of those things linked to the meta-purpose).
Now, what was weird, and maybe just a product of my own mind was that within a day of doing all this I started a two week period of intense emotional, psychological and physical crap:
The next night my girlfriend and I fought horribly and quite inexplicably, all night, over nothing. We were both acting fucking crazy. angry for nothing. Unlike both of us. I underwent massive bouts of self doubt and uncharacteristic frustration with everything I love to do, from writing to music to my job to money to love, everything. I developed what I think is gout in my foot. Then my girlfriend got really sick. Scarlett Fever with 104 fever. Then she got really sick again. Then this led to other complications. Finally she recovered. Then she inexplicably did not get two jobs she interviewed for that she was more than qualified for.Her current work situation worsened.
I felt responsible.
Everything seemed to excalate. For the first time in my life, I actually began to think that I 'might be depressed', clinically speaking.
This was unlike anything I'd ever experienced, just serious modern american excuse making at its best. I became increasingly lethargic and frustrated. I tried to use my positive self-force to swim through this but it was HARD. Fuck man, my magick stopped. I felt impotent.
Eventually I pulled myself from it but I can't help wondering if my direct assault on the mysitcla 'federal space' didn't set off a counter attack, viral servitor-like.
So be fucking careful.

Neville,

I would also like to see the sigil you made in DC. I truly hope your run of bad luck wasn't a result of your working, and I hope it has turned around and stays turned.

Now that I think about it, I was in DC in July for one day and though I did no magick, an improbable amount of stuff went wrong while I was there. Just stupid inconvenient things, but in retrospect, especially after your post, it's interesting. Also, think of all of the mental/spiritual energy being directed at that city--probably all of it negative!

One feature of the POTUS sigil is that it is based on positive imagery--ie, instead of getting Bush/Vader out, getting Kerry/Edwards in.
