Hey, thanks!

I honestly wouldn't recommend anyoner go out of their way to see us by the way ; basically we're just looking to do a couple of quick 20 minute sets to see if we're any good at it. I'll let people know if it turns out we are.

The promoter has decided we are "The Beat Happening having a fight with Huggy Bear in Mothercare".

Which is pretty heart-warming to know, but I'm slightly baffled as to where Mothercare fits in... what could she be implying..?

Anyway, I'm sure it'll be lots of fun, even if we suck.

Fucking wicked, Riz!

Looks like I probably won't be able to make it, but break a leg! (Bonus points if the leg in question belongs to someone else!)

Singing? Scary. Only dunnit that one time in public. My older brother came up to me after saying "Was that a soundcheck or something?". And there was only oh roundabout 400 people in the crowd (festival gig)... Never. Again.

More on the general disreputable politics of some of the bands playing at the Slimelight gig in November here.

Suck! You and Wimpy Milkshake??

Are you sure you wouldn't rather it was next weekend?

(Also, anything doing next weekend? I am actually both in London and free and if I don't go out I'll only not wimp out of installing Ubuntu Studio.

Crazy!)

Well funnily enough, looking at my diary for next weekend (as in Nov. 17th/18th), I see Ill Ease (ace one-woman thrashy punk band who wins my approval by prominently HATING DRUM MACHINES) at some place called The Macbeth in Hoxton on Saturday and, well, uh, only goddamn Acid Mothers Temple playing at Corsica Studios again on the Sunday!!

Can't quite believe the latter in happening with such little fanfare, but the diary wouldn't lie to me. Better get myself a ticket!

There's a whole bunch of things going on at Corsica, some of which may involve me playing records. Not sure about AMT as yet. Circle + Guapo on the 28th November too.

rizla mission
12:44 / 08.11.07
Yes, that one's in my diary too.

Never actually heard Circle, but I mean, how could they not be good?

And whilst I'm on the subject, the astonishing/confounding/unique David Thomas Broughton, whom everyone (and I mean everyone) should make a point of going to see at least once, is also on at Corsica, November 27th.

Quite the place to be this month it would seem.

13:50 / 08.11.07
Oh, Circle are good. Damned good, in fact, as this video of them playing on a bus demonstrates admirably. Do come along; it'll be a blast and a half.

Corsica Studios is becoming the venue to reckon with, I reckon.... erm, with.

I'll add my recommendation to Circle for you luck people. The couple times I've seen them they've put on really great shows. I actually appreciate them more than Acid Mothers Temple, who I do like, but find get a little boring after a while (and destroy my eardrums). I know i'm in the minority.

I hope the gig went well, Riz. Sounds neato.

Mon Oncle Ignatius
22:31 / 15.11.07
Yeah, how did the gig go?

I'll still probably go to see AMT on Sunday (at Corsica...). Foetus is DJing too.

All Acting Regiment
10:12 / 17.11.07
Well, tonight I'm off to see Vitalic, the Ting Tings, and a Simian Mobile Disco DJ set. I'll tell y'all how it goes.

Neil Young UK dates!
Announced at 11pm last night apparently!

Playhouse Edinburgh MON 03/03/2008
Apollo Hammersmith London WED 05/03/2008
Apollo Hammersmith London THU 06/03/2008
Apollo Hammersmith London SAT 08/03/2008
Apollo Hammersmith London SUN 09/03/2008
Apollo Manchester TUE 11/03/2008
Apollo Manchester WED 12/03/2008

I've got my ticket for the Saturday London one.... just done the math and it's the most money I've ever spent on a single concert by almost a factor of three (£75 !!!).

Still... awesomeness!

That's the top three of my "must see before I die, or they do" list all crossed off within a year.

Shit, guessing these'll all be LONG sold out by the time I get paid...

11:47 / 14.12.07
£75??
Fuck a duck.
I thought £35 was a lot for Devo (although it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen, so I still don't care)

12:31 / 14.12.07
I know, I know, but it's Neil Young. I like him better than I like, say, holidays, or shoes or something.

Don't know who's promoting the shows, but with 3,500 people per night clamouring for the chance to pay £75 each four nights in a row, the phrase "laughing all the way to the bank" springs to mind.

Haus of Mystery
13:00 / 14.12.07
I get the feeling he'll give good gig, too. Like a furious grandpa.

I'd be the happiest man in the kingdom if he brought Crazy Horse along with him.

Maybe I should send him a letter to that effect.... "Dear Neil, I know your new album with the 18 minute song was kinda interesting and cool, and that whole anti-war one from last year, yeah, right on, but dude; you know how much we've all paid for these tickets? C'mon, get the guys back together! Cortez The Killer! Just for us? - signed, the UK."

Haus of Mystery
14:22 / 14.12.07
Actually riz - are you going to Jeffrey Lewis on the 18th? I understand he's got his 'new' band The Jitters with him. I, for one, am stoked.

rizla mission
21:37 / 15.12.07
Um... no , I missed out on a ticket for that one, sadly. But I've seen him play three times this year, so can't really complain.

I don't think it's really a "new band" btw - just Jeff and Jack and their regular drumming guy, and Jeff's girlfriend Helen (who does all the female singing and keyboards on the Crass album).

Sure they'll be amazing though, as ever - enjoy. Oh, and now that everybody's familiar with the album, I hope to hear a bit of a mass sing-along during "I Ain't Thick" too...

Squirmelia
22:08 / 10.01.08
I'm hoping to see Current 93 at the Southbank Centre, London, but tickets are only on sale for members at the moment.

Yeah, I'll DEFINITELY be at C93, come hell or high water.

I've just now become a member in order to get Harmonia tickets. I could get you a C93 one if you want...

Should be on the case, I think... but I'll let you know.

That was meant @ Squirmelia, but you'd have been most welcome too. They're on sale to non-members in 20 minutes anyway...

Just managed to sort mine using a bizarre combination of chicanery and someone else's credit card... they're going fast, though.

The legendary Earth are here in London in February and Christian "FUCKING!" Marclay is playing live in a week or so!

Earth

Christian Marclay and Elliot Sharp

Okkervil River - 05 Feb London, Scala

Does anyone know this wonderful band? Has anyone seen them live? Is anybody going?

I've got tickets and it turns out now that it's quite possible that I'll be going on my own (if my other half is not able to arrange leave) so I'm despeartely trying to find home for the other ticket now. And just wondered if anybody would mind some company (well, if anyone's going) 'cause it kind of sucks going to great gigs on your own.

Come hell or high water, I'm not missing the show.

Bandini, I can't recommend live Earth enough. I've seen them three times since the reformation, and they put on a great show. Be warned that they're really a lot closer to Tortoise (loud, loud, Tortoise) nowadays than anything like SunnO))).

Mike Modular
14:41 / 29.01.08
I have a spare ticket for the Christian Marclay gig if anyone's interested..

Or indeed a loud, loud instrumental Low - both are good. I hope to be at the Dingwall's gig, partly because Sir Richard Bishop is supporting. Imagine John Fahey playing under the spell of Popul Vuh. Excellent stuff.
