YO! For anyone in the Southampton region, Q-Bert will be playing the Lizard Lounge on Thursday 21st June. For anyone not in the know he's one of the best scratch DJs in the world, was banned from championships because he won every time, and is more or less guaranteed to be gobsmacking, if you're into Eddie Van Halen pornographic displays of virtuosity. Should be very good fun.

Oh Dear, that description of HTRK was awful. They are actually really good, and not at all as shit as they sound from that blurb. Think early Cocteau Twins with a bit of Low-esque atmospherics, and produced by Roland S Howard=Sheetsoffeedbacknoise! yeah!

Mon Oncle Ignatius
07:56 / 14.06.07
I did ponder excising the HTRK blurb from the quote as it's somewhat excessive and unhelpful - I doubt it would encourage me to go and see them.

Just realised who's actually playing in fORCH:

Phil Minton & Ute Wassermann - voices Peter Evans - trumpet(s) Wolfgang Mitterer - piano Paul Lovens - percussion Aleksander Kolkowski - Strohviola Richard Barrett & Paul Obermayer - electronics

YES

Peter Evans also has gigs at the Red Rose on 17th and at Utrophia, Greenwich (which I didn't know existed) on the 18th.

Go see Phil Minton. He's the guv'nor, even though he defaults to this weird Donald Duck type thing. Pretty cool.

The legend that is Daniel Johnston is playing at the Union Chapel in London - 12/07/07.

It's Daniel Johnston in a church!

Mon Oncle Ignatius
10:47 / 18.06.07
Hmmm, Daniel Johnston eh? Could be worth a visit.

In other news (and shifted here from the June 2007 Barbemeet thread), the Nuns, an all-female Monks tribute band, will play at The Corn Rocket Club at Ryans on Stoke Newington Church Street on Saturday 23rd June. Other bands playing will be Parisian electro punks Operation S and The Buckets. Cornrocket's Myspace site has more information.

If anyone's interested:

Dead Meadow, Cargo, August 9th

My vote for one of the best modern day psychedelic rock bands around. They have The Riff, and they know how to use it.

if you're looking for a nice change of pace from the typical guitar, bass, drums set-up check out Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra. a band of 12 dudes from Brooklyn who play jazz, salsa, and nigerian fusion music. a good song/album to check out is Government Magic. they're doing a show on Halloween at SOB's in NYC.
