Er, while those two suggestions are very apt, I think I might've jumped the gun a little. (Thanks again and I know I'm being picky but such is the nature of finding exactly the right word)

Some context might be in order:

I'm writing on Tetsuo: The Iron Man, about how the industrialisation and, indeed, the 'sprawling' 'bloated' Tokyo finds a aggressive allegory in Tetsuo's mechanized, distorted form. Is there a further word for excessive, unstable growth that would emphasize both a human cancerous growth and industrial sprawl while also emphazing a certain 'rapidity'?

Is 'metastasized' a step to far?

Rampant?

I'm here to ask on behalf of this thread about the word tine. I reckon it's a misprint of trine but your web-fu may be superior.

Quants - I thought the tine=spike reading, impaling the moon, made the most sense from the little context we were given.

Industrial growth...well, see, all the metaphors seem to run into organic territory. Infected?

I think 'metastasized' has a different meaning than the one you want. Probably you need two words, I don't know if there is one that covers all that. 'Splayed' came to mind, and 'distended'?

On fix and tine the moon - a tine is a fork prong, so in keeping with the fix (in the meaning of "bind"), I would suggest that tine means "to skewer", or run through, maybe?

Yes, sorry, what Thinking palindrome said. I don't cope well with forking discussions.
