NEW X-MEN #151 & 152: HERE COMES TOMORROW
Written by GRANT MORRISON
Covers & pencils by MARC SILVESTRI
It's the early favorite for THE comic book event of 2004 as industry giant MARC SILVESTRI returns to the X for Grant Morrison's final story arc and instant classic, "HERE COMES TOMORROW"!
In the tradition of "DAYS OF FUTURE PAST", take a look into the X-Men's future. Society has crumbled, the human race is all but decimated, and mutants have evolved far beyond their imagined potential. But throughout the years, the dream of one man long dead still remains true - that of Professor Charles Xavier … that of the X-Men!

That they live in New New York.

What? You've never seen Futurama? Sweet Zombie Jesus.

Ummm... I have... but...

Oh.

Was the end of Army of Darkness not the same?

Gosh! I bet the person who suggested that Silvestri drew really homoerotic men is eating their words right about now!

Yeah Duncan but that was the alternate ending to Army of Darkness.
I instantly thought of the same thing though.

I don't like the cover. I hate this costume (whatever may remain of it) and his gigantic arse/legs are covering up all that great background.

Ahhh, it's just balancing out that Emma Frost cover from near the start of Morrison's run on NewXMen. Symmetry, and all that.

lets face it, this is it. Is any one really going to read this book once Grant leaves? I had to wrestle with the idea of going back to it when he started writing it, so let his incredible run be the end of the Xmen mythos as far as I am concerned. Grant is provideing the kind of closure I always wanted from Xmen! (unless the Chris Claremont from 10 years ago could come back and tie up some stuff....hahahahahahaha, or maybe Fabien and that goddamn upstarts shit...nasw, forget it, old news, Grant ends it whose with me? If your gonna stop after this and feel closure, even if ya grew up with it, let us know!)

Wow. The Lith caught a bit of indigestion somewhere around 10 in the morning.

I dunno. I'm having a hard time enjoying Grant's run as it is. I'll stick around for his Days of Future Past take but so far it just feels like so much karaoke to me.

Ya know wot? I can't wait for the next one. (New X-Men 152)

A) That's cuz I'm not just reading this series as a monthly.

B) Cuz I hate waiting.

FUCKING MASSIVE SPOILERS! ARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH!

Ok, the space there was a bit exessive but the issue isn't out for a bit, and I had to post this image from the preview:

Jean lives! Beast gets his tentacle rape on!

The preview is a must see, tons to drool over and speculate on.

How the hell is that Jean? She doesn't have brown hair or brown eyes.

Seems unlikely that Beast would crack the egg so soon into the arc either.

Not clear Beast cracked egg...weird brain got through...delirious from best Wolverine two page spread in history of medium...

So, you see where this is all headed, no? The ultimate moment between Jean and Logan. What an awesome note to end on. Their relationship has always been, to my mind, the least complicated. They both know what they want. They both know they'll never get it. They would both do anything for each other.

Oh man, this is gonna be so fucking sweet.

She looks like a redhead to me. I could be wrong.

That wolverine spread with cerebro and the energy sigs is fucking fantastic. This seems to be the first time Grant's found his own voice on the run since riot- pure fucking imagination...

Not sure if that is Jean or not. At first I too thought it was. But the phoenix egg isn't perfectly round like that. And it that last panel she looks like she has brown hair and brown eyes. She does look like a red head in the first two panels though. Who knows its either Jean or an experiment.

However I believe the 2 page thread is the cuckoos and/or Cassandra foreseeing Jean's disinfection of the planet. Thats why the planet is engulfed by flames, imo.

It's a containment field. Either this is his plan to control jean, or morrison just wants to be fucking kinky.

15:05 / 18.12.03
Seems to me the only redness in her hair in the earlier panels is a reflected glow from the containment field and/or the Beast's furnace.

You might be right about the Cuckoos foreseeing the Phoenix's disinfection of the earth though.

I realize that coloring SIlvestri's art isn't the easiest thing in the world, but the colorist for this arc is just KILLING me - those circles of spectrum dullness are so insanely unnecessary (see above and When Nightclops Attack).

The coloring of NXM has been so... off... since Imperial ended.

But yeah, still need a good pants-changing after all that. Something about Silvestri's art for this arc gets me and a lot of other people giggling like a teenage child-murdering nanny on the witness stand.

Pretty damn shure the short haired woman with brown hair is not Jean.

I will be very, very shocked if The Beast in this storyline isn't En Sabah Nur.

Ditto - that close up of his eyes in 150 - v. creepy. Wonder if there's a link with his "possession" and the anti-kick. His costume in 151 is soo Apocalypse.

Lots of small little hints about beast being evil in the run so far: He shot Charles' body up with the nano-sentinels, the kick smell in the "X-Labssss", adding up with what we thought was mis-direction about Apocolypse... as I said at the time of the wizard preview, gotta be him.

"See me for what I am, OK?"
11:16 / 19.12.03
Is an evil Beast not just a huge hint that it's En Sabah Nur? What with the last time we saw that being the Age of Apocalypse and all.

"See me for what I am, OK?"

And as for the (presumably) evil Fantomex lookalike...is that what EVA meant when she mentioned "what happened to him"?

Quireboy
14:29 / 19.12.03
That's what I thought about Fantomex when I first saw the previews.

This clues point more towards Apocalypse than Dark Beast though.

I don't think the Beast in this story is really Henry McCoy at all. I don't think the Henry that we know was ever evil or had another agenda. He may be used and manipulated, but Henry is no bad guy.

Quimper
15:24 / 19.12.03
Yeah, if this "Beast" has access to all the genetic material of every X-Man, maybe this lunatic just injected himself with Hank McCoy juice.

i've always kind of taken the fact that he has pretty much universally been referred to in NXM as En Sabah Nur rather than Apocalypse that GM wanted to use the character, but wanted to thoroughly purge him of any taint of 90s crappiness. referring to him as En Sabah Nur seems to go towards treating him as an ancient evil spirit/genius manipulator rather than cartoon villain. if that is the case, and GM has wanted to use him, now would be the time.

plus, all the hints that Bio K9 and myself and others took as pointing towards his involvement in things as Assault on Weapon Plus wrapped up still sort of hold true, even if the Big Reveal in 146 wasn't who we thought it was.

You know... in some ways it would make sense if En Sabah Nur was or had been manipulating Sublime.... just a thought. And it wouldn't be that far off base to think that somehow Beast's body or genetic structure could have been utilized by him in the future.... Fuck this is such a crazy idea, but it is actually making a little sense now. Who woulda though I would agree with u, Flux......

There's always the possibility of it being Dark Beast but I doubt it.

I'm assuming the parasite brain is Martha Johannson but why have all the telepaths survived this far into the future.
Alternatively couldn't all the x-men, special class, brotherhood being at the centre of whatever time warp the Phoenix-Magneto caused have been catapulted into the far future?

Matthew Fluxington
17:15 / 26.12.03
In one of the promo images/pages, we see Cassandra with Martha (holding Martha on a kite, just as Ernst did), so that creepy Alien-pod brain thing probably isn't Martha.

One of the things occurring to me about the evil Beast theories... Henry would be my vote for "most likely to get really bitter and turn evil"; he seems to have a need for attention and love that's just not being fulfilled. His ex-girlfriend dumped him with a conversation that included the word "bestiality", he's made some subtle romantic overtures towards Emma (who's in love with his best friend), he's continually "devolving", as Nova put it, and this is a guy who's been a former Avenger, not to mention having just figured out how to save Earth's dominant species from extinction. Gotta smart some, being so magnificently underappreciated. (Also, circumstantially, Ultimate X-Men's Beast has a massive insecurity complex, and Millar and Morrison often overlap conceptually).

And I get the feeling that Cassandra is actually Martha, and not Ernst. Martha seems to have that meta-awareness attributed to Cassandra. Or maybe Cass is actually No-Girl, in disguise.
