It's a ways off yet, but...

Molina seems an odd choice, but me likey. Wish they'd chuck that very non-Spidey font, though. Rian Hughes knocked out some fantastic logo proposals for the first one which I'd much rather have seen used for the second film than this entirely inappropriate X-Men cast-off.

Hope they drop Elfman, too - the first flick's soundtrack didn't fit with what was happening on-screen at all and sounded just like every other soundtrack he's ever written.

Sweet god. The fact they've retooled his tentacles AND his Moe Howard haircut makes me all kinds of fanboy squishy. I'd never imagined Doc Ock as cool. Ever. But this is some pretty sweet stuff.

And then I read the clip description. This is going to be a helluva improvement over the first one. Canna wait.

The Temple Of Fucking Zuul.

This Is The Best Message Board On Earth.

Me, I'm, psyched about Molina. Here's the movie in my head:

"Oh don't mind him. That's The Rhino. (whispers) He's Chinese."

and

"Don't do this Peter. Don't fucking do this! I give! I give you money for your kitchen!"
"I PAID YOU BACK, DOC OCK!"
"TWO YEARS! TWO YEARS, I NEVER CHARGE INTEREST!"

And so on.

Elton John..very good indeed, or how about (well we'd have to resurrect, or use digital trickery) Roy Orbison?

as of a couple of weeks ago, he's been scoring Fable, the new lionhead xbox game. hopefully he'll be too busy for your sake.

Naw, it'll be Elfman, and quite honestly after a couple listens I thought he actually did the job very well. Still, you're right in that he's stuck in a damn rut musically, which saddens me because I'm a bigtime Oingo Boingo fan, which I came to though his movie scores rather than vice versa. I think playing in a rock group helped his more classical work and vice versa; without the former the latter suffers.

Shit, I've been saying Elton John should be Doc Ock for YEARS. But Molina seems to have it locked.

I saw the new trailer for the first time yesterday. I had my nephew on my lap and we watched it twice. At one point my nephew said, "I wanna see dat moomie." (He's almost 4.) I replied, "Hell yeah, *I* wanna see dat moomie." Anyone notice the direct visual allusion to the famous "Spider-Man Mo More!" cover? Peter walking down the alley away from his costume in a garbage can? I just love how Raimi manages to work that stuff in for us geeks.

BTW, has there been any talk of whether Octavius will get the hots for Aunt May like he did in the comic? And is that Doc Connors talking to Peter in the trailer? Did he have one arm or two?

According to Wizard, there's no Doc Ock/Aunt May love interest going on at all. Which is probably for the best.

Curt Connors is indeed in this movie played by the excellent Dylan Baker, whether he becomes The Lizard or not who knows? Perhaps he will be in Spiderman 3. I really hope they don't try to force too many villains into the movie as that is where the Batman franchise started to go downhill.

Oh and yes Dr. Curt Connors does seem to have only one arm in the trailer.

Bastardo! If I weren't such an inconsequential little turd, I'd suspect that he's getting involved with this stuff just to annoy me.

I would at least like to see Kraven. He was never my favorite villain but after "Kravens Last Hunt" I started to like him.

21:24 / 13.04.04
Yeah but if they did that, the movie would be entirely too similar to the first Ultimate Spider-Man Doc Ock arc. Though that Kraven appearance was brilliant. Bendis did some great misdirection on that one.

Oh yeah. I like that trailer. Although it does seem to give away the entire movie...hope there is more to it...

Weirdly attracted to Molina now...

horrible stupid marketing news (from Yahoo News today):

they're putting little web thingies on the bases. Disgusting. If they want a promotional thing, why not just give out cheap Spidey toys or something to all kids under 13 who come in to the baseball park that day?

Baseball Sells 'Spider-Man' Ads on Bases

By RONALD BLUM, AP Sports Writer

NEW YORK - Spider-Man is coming to a base near you. Ads for "Spider-Man 2" will be placed atop bases at major league ballparks during games from June 11-13 as part of a promotion announced Wednesday.

The move is the latest push by baseball to increase its marketing to younger fans — and make money along the way.

"I guess it's inevitable, but it's sad," said Fay Vincent, a former baseball commissioner and former president of Columbia Pictures, which is releasing the movie. "I'm old-fashioned. I'm a romanticist. I think the bases should be protected from this."

The "Spider-Man" promotion has been in the works for more than a year and will include ad buys and ballpark events, such as giving masks to fans, said Jacqueline Parkes, baseball's senior vice president for marketing and advertising. The ads, about 4 inches long, won't appear on home plates.

The announcement of the promotion, first reported Wednesday by The Wall Street Journal, comes a week after jockeys at the Kentucky Derby won the right to wear ads on their uniforms.

"Spider-Man" opens June 30, and the weekend in early June was picked because it is during interleague play, which draws higher attendance than usual.

"We need to reach out to a younger demographic to bring them to the ballpark," Parkes said. "They are looking for nontraditional breakthrough ways to convey 'Spider-Man' messaging. ... It's the future of how we generate excitement inside the stadium and about the game itself."

Baseball will receive about $3.6 million in a deal negotiated by Major League Baseball Properties with Marvel Studios and Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony Inc., a high-ranking baseball executive said on condition of anonymity.

The New York Yankees (news) and Boston Red Sox (news) will get more than $100,000 each, one team executive said, also on condition of anonymity. Most other 13 teams that are home that weekend will get about $50,000 apiece, the executive said.

Parkes said the amount a team receives depends on the level of its participation. Geoffrey Ammer, president of marketing for the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, was not immediately available for comment, spokesman Steve Elzer said.

Ralph Nader (news - web sites), a presidential candidate and consumer advocate, criticized the deal. He wrote Tuesday to baseball commissioner Bud Selig, denouncing the decision to have ads on uniforms during the season-opening series in March between the Yankees and Tampa Bay in Tokyo.

"It's gotten beyond grotesque," Nader said. "The fans have to revolt here. Otherwise, they'll be looking at advertisements between advertisements."

In separate promotions, the bases also will feature pink ribbons Sunday as part of a Mother's Day promotion to raise breast-cancer awareness, and they will have blue ribbons on Father's Day, June 20, to raise prostate-cancer awareness.

They're not doing the Spidey-Bases anymore in baseball - they pulled the campaign (thankfully) after everyone said "what the hell's wrong with you people??"

And in real movie news, I saw the new trailer for Spidey 2 last night (during the FRIENDS finale) and it pretty much fucking rocks!!! It opens with Tobey re-doing the ending lines from the first movie -- "No matter what I do, no matter how hard I try, it will always be those who I love who will pay..." And then shifts into a perfect shot of the famous old Lee/Romita Spidey cover of Spidey walking away in the alley, the Spidey costume and mask hung over a garbage can. The voice-over says something like "And so, I will be Spider-Man...no more." Which is exactly what the cover of that famous issue says ("Spider-Man -- No More!!") It's a beautiful thing.

The stuff with Ock and Harry Obsorn and Mary Jane looks cool too. Although the all-CGI swinging Spidey shot that opens the trailer still looks a little wonky.

Damn, and I thought I was the only one. It would be cool if they used the Kravens Last Hunt story arc for the 3rd movie.

Well I actually DID see Spider-Man 2 this morning, at a closed press screening. I gots the hookups!

Un.

Believable.

I saw it with my studio partner and all through we exchanged wide eyed, huge-grinned, "Holy fuck" type glances. Neither of us could believe how good it was.

It is to the first Spider-Man film what X2 was to the first X-Men, or Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars. It's bigger, more exciting, more emotional, funnier, it's an incredible piece of summer blockbuster filmmaking. There's a wonderfully overblown operatic campness to it (stay with me here) but crucially it's never STUPID like the Schumacher Batman movies. It's gleefully over the top but it really works. There's one scene that is Raimi's wildest, most hyperkinetic stylized gonzo filmmaking since Army of Darkness (there's even a chainsaw!)

The action scenes are breathtaking, I was leaning forward in my seat for most of them, gripping my knees. And there's a surprising amount of heart to it, I actually found myself getting choked up in a few places.

It's the best comic book movie, ever, and really underscores how much of a crushing bore Hellboy was.

And the end is so set up for part three they may as well have had "TO BE CONTINUED" up on screen. And there will most definitely be a third one, because if the box office for the first film is any measure, this one is gonna go through the roof.

Can't wait to see it again!

I am so so pleased to hear you say that, Cam!

The first x movie feels kinda stale compared to the second one now, I cannot wait for this. Total child-like excitement GO!

Did it make you want to draw Spidey?

Yep, and he's funnier in this one than he was in the first.

It's never explicitly stated, but I like to think that he's playing the same guy in this movie, but he lost the job as a wrestling announcer and now he's an usher...

I'm outrageously stoked, as Spiderman was definitely my favorite comic book movie thus far (you all know my views on X2 so I'll not sully this thread with them).

This movie is, additionally, going to raze any and all box office records to the ground. I love it when good movies do well. And this, by all accounts, looks to be a very very good movie.

What insurance company in New York, I'm wondering, would be willing to give Mary Jane Watson any kind of insurance at this point. I'm reminded of Homer Simpson having a fourth heart attack just as he's about to sign a life insurance policy. Poor girl.
