Anyone? I am in need of a bit of light-hearted conversation. There's gotta be someone around who's as much of an insomniac/as bored as me....

I'm in Cardiff, attempting to get back in to the parallel universe that is university life by doing what I always do. The computer room is very bare and it's damn surreal being here.

Olulabelle
23:39 / 05.05.03
LOL should've known you would be Anna.

Are you always in the computer room on your own? Is it dark and weird, or strip-light lit?

jeff
23:49 / 05.05.03
I daren't fall asleep lest the world spin before my 'lids and turn me inside out.
So why are you all up at this hour?

Tryphena Absent
23:54 / 05.05.03
It's strip light, cream walled and there are (starts counting) 11 other people in here at the moment. I'm up because... I'm always awake at this time, the day I go to sleep before 3 is the day I've been taken over by weirdo aliens with big eyes and heads that are too large for their puny bodies!

Olulabelle
23:55 / 05.05.03
Because it's much more fun than being up at 10.30am - a dull and tedious time of day. Who'd have this conversation with me then? They'd just want to get a Cappuccino and have a word with the boss.

There are interesting and strange people out there at this hour.

Allegedly.

Olulabelle
23:59 / 05.05.03
Anna, I think you should stand on your chair and shout, 'If you are here, you should join Barbelith.' Anyone who could be bothered to be in a University computer room at 2am in the morning has obviously got something interesting to say. Or an essay that's really, fucking late.

Aside - does it stay open all night? Weird. I wrote my dissertation on a TYPEWRITER.

1500 words to go before tommorrow WOO
No sleep for pot then...
Sigh.

My apologies olulabelle but i am a living refutation of your last post.

Tryphena Absent
00:05 / 06.05.03
Yeah it stays open all night and these people really don't look interesting enough to be on barbelith- we have a yawning rugby player, a couple of Japanese kiddies, a goth in a nasty T-shirt, some people writing essays. The guy next to me earlier might have been the type I guess and he was reading over my shoulder.

Poor Potguns- that's going to be me in less than a week.

Olulabelle
00:06 / 06.05.03
Clearly so am I then, as, sadly, I just had to look up refutation.

*sigh*.

Only 5 hours to go before the end of my 12 hour night shift, then another 12 before my next one. Sheesh.

Not busy at work tonight so, at midnight, started reading some more of A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius. Ten minutes ago (approx 1:50am) i found my forehead resting in said book - I now have a large red pressure blotch on my forehead and daren't venture out of the office in case someone uses their Holmesian powers of deduction to rumble my sleeping-on-the-job activities.

Any other 'lithers here for the sole purpose of allowing their forehead splotches to fade?

Olulabelle
00:08 / 06.05.03
Anna, don't tell the rugby player, definitely. The Goth in the nasty T-Shirt might be a come-r though and the guy looking over your shoulder, well, HELLOOOOOOO....

Potguns
00:08 / 06.05.03
and police story has just started on CNX.
Ahh well at least I have some red bull

Olulabelle
00:10 / 06.05.03
What is a/CNX and b/Police story?

Spangle, no nasty blotches, but if you feel alone I could try and cultivate one...

Red Bull gives you wings.

I refuse to recruit members... they can follow a link on one of the countless barbeblogs floating around. Or preferably read the Invisibles and google Barbelith.

Potguns
00:14 / 06.05.03
police story is one of the best Jackie Chan movies to grace the western world, CNX is the cartoon networks lovley new anime, kung fu kinda channel.

Cloned Christ on a HoverDonkey
00:14 / 06.05.03
Police Story is a trite, low-brow, extremely funny '80s comedy series featuring the white-haired geezer from the airplane movies.

And yes, oulabelle, I think I would feel better knowing that another 'lither looked quite as ridiculous as I do.

Grrrr... As I type a call is going out for me over the site tannoy, requesting my presence elsewhere. Wish me luck, for I don't think my dead give-away splotch has sufficiently faded yet. It's possible I may just be rumbled.

BRB, as they say...

eastern not western police story

Char Aina
00:18 / 06.05.03
CNX is a cable channel. i think its Cartoon Network Xtreme, or something. the guy that they have advertising it on other channels looks pretty cool; kinda like the mandarin but skinnier and more evil looking.

Char Aina
00:19 / 06.05.03
i need to type faster, huh?

i am awake too, as per bloody usual.

Olulabelle
00:21 / 06.05.03
I am amused at the thought of Spangle going somewhere with a big red splotch, especially as the word 'site' seems to imply a workplace which is big and full of people....

I am obviously losing out due to lack of cable/satellite, and am ashamed to say have never heard of Police Story.

Anna, you are right. Recruit no-one and make them find Lith on their ownsome...

The Strobe

Spangle, that's Police Squad. Which starred Leslie Nielsen. And Peter "Mission Impossible" Lupus as Nordberg. In the film of it, Naked Gun, Nordberg was played by OJ Simpson. Lupus was better.

I am going to bed. I have had an OK day; not done enough work, and I'm a fool and an idiot. But hey, I was productive on some levels and my stoned mate just made the most awesome scrambled eggs. And I listened to Nighthawks at the Diner again, and it made me happy. Bed calls, or I shall never work tomorrow.

bamf.

I just quoted the invisibles in my mass audience essay...

KING MOB: “The most pernicious image of all is the anarchist hero figure. A creation of commodity culture, he allows us to buy into an inauthentic simulation of revolutionary praxis.”
RAGGED ROBIN: “When’s the movie?”
KING MOB: “The hero encourages passive spectating and revolt becomes another product to be consumed.” (4)

I rule my geeky world!

Ohhh. I love the concept of posting in the Late Thread to say you're going to bed. Paleface, you rock!

Saint Keggers
00:39 / 06.05.03
I'd like to inform everyone that I am NOT going to bed. I do indeed not rock.
Im blaming my non-rockitudeness on too much coffee...and in an attempt to grasp at some caffein induced geekdom memories:

"It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the Beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed,
the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion."

Olulabelle
00:53 / 06.05.03
Kegboy, I hope you are aware that you do indeed still rock for not rocking.

The Return Of Rothkoid

Well, it's midday here, so going to bed now would be a bit fucked-up - especially if I tried to do it at work.

Hmmmm.

Olulabelle
01:07 / 06.05.03
No, no Rothkoid, going to bed at work during lunchtime would be unfeasably cool and I think you should start a trend.

In Norway, workers have a few 'Duvet Days' a year - a similar scenario whereby you ring up and say 'I can't be arsed to come to work today, I'm too bored/busy/tired' and the bosses think it's fine.

Saint Keggers
01:07 / 06.05.03
LOL!
I still rock for not rocking...I feel like the gratefull dead.

Roth: Going to sleep at work. The fun starts when you get caught and have to make up excuses like "I think there may be something wrong with the ventilation because I never do that and you'd better have it checked before something really bad happens."

Rothky should be in bed. So should I, but I'm on a sudden tidying jag, and have also rediscovered the joys of X-Com:Apocalypse. God help me... should be reading about setting up limited companies, but just cannot be fagged...

Olulabelle
01:31 / 06.05.03
Ohhh, I *really* want to go to bed, please stop making me feel thick...What's X-Com:Apocalypse? And how is it a 3.27am (GMT) thing?

The Return Of Rothkoid
01:55 / 06.05.03
Well... if you'd've been around at 4am this morning, my time, you'd've seen me fruitlessly refreshing barbelith... bah. It's just a cruel stroke of fate that this thread's never actually "late" for me or the people reading it, alternately...
