So, how does that sound? I know I will be insanely busy during the school year, especially in the first four months of 2004. I am hoping that I will have all the promotional stuff ready to be sent out long before then.
It dawns on me that every year my school puts out a collection of the best artwork from the animation department, and that the format is similar to what we're looking at. I can probably find out what goes into it and use the same people if their price is reasonable. I've also been in contact with a comic collective in Montreal, members of which have been involved in similar anthologies. I am setting aside the entire month of May to get the printing and shipping done. I'm not sure how we're going to work the distribution exactly, but I'll find out this summer.
I don't know about anyone else, but I will be travelling around to local stores trying to sell them on the idea of carrying the book. If anyone else is interested in doing this, I have no doubt that all participants will be getting a few promo copies to give to family and friends which they can also use to show around. If you want more copies on top of that, I'm sure it will get done. Heck, we'll give them to libraries.
In early 2004, when we know our exact schedule, I was thinking we can take a page out of Martin Wagner's book and set up a fund for people to pre-order books directly from us. This could help cover some of the costs of printing. Maybe we could offer sketches, exclusive min-comics, buttons, t-shirts, etc. for those who sign up early.
Hm. I think that's about it. If anyone objects to any of the above, let's sort it out.
Thanks for the interest and enthusiasm, everyone. I've received emails from people not associated with Barbelith, and seen a few tidbits leaked out through blogs and other message boards. If we make this a regular thing this first book will probably be the only one that is Barbelith-exclusive. |
