Woohoo! We got one! I was right! Damn I'm good ... and so is everyone else who voted for grant.

However, just cos we strung up one of the buggers, we must not let complacency be the thief of vigilance (or something), by which I mean that everyone (except me and BK9) is still a suspect - let's not just assume that anyone who accused Sax was mafia or that Sax is entirely off the hook - we must all continue to think critically and act warily.

Anyway, enough of the sententiousness. I'm a bit confused about the sequence of events from now on - Mr. Mayor, should there not be a Mafia hit now before there's another vote and lynching? Doesn;t it go lynch, murder, lynch, murder etc.? In which case, when do we find out who has copped it? Enquiring minds demand to know - the Mafia's choice of victim is always going to be a clue as to their identity.

And Sax, if you're the detective, how's about us villagers nominate someone for you to ask about and you tell us the answer the next morning? Or would you prefer to choose the person yourself?

Ethan Hawke

Yeah, I'm waiting for the mafia to PM me...the vote may have to be delayed....If no one is killed before 20:00 Barbetime, don't vote, okay?

The Strobe
14:03 / 17.01.03
Hold on a sec.

Since when was I "deffo" Mafia? I mean, I know I haven't been posting much, uni work getting in the way and stuff, but christ, my back's turned for a minute and I'm under the omerta?

Persephone's right: we have to play like villagers, and I think that somewhere along the line Sax stopped doing so. He's also being very didactic in his style of posts: "your next move is simple". Not the reasoning of early ones, and I don't like being pushed around.

Sax
14:21 / 17.01.03
My posts are now necessarily didactic; any minute now you'll be off voting to have me killed so I need to get as many of my suggestions to the rest of the village as quickly and as forcibly as possible.

Persephone
14:51 / 17.01.03
Sax, you ROCK.

Listen to me, villagers. The mafia are going to kill one of us any minute now.

1) Killing Sax will confirm that he's a detective and that Paleface is mafia.

2) Killing me will confirm that I'm a villager.

3) Killing bio K9 or Whiskey won't confirm anything, but it'll leave Sax alive to choose between Duncan or Lionheart.

Don't think about Duncan or Lionheart now. I told you what I am going to do, if I'm not killed by the Mafia. Sax has a confirmed Mafia identity, Paleface, and I am going to vote to kill him. You have to trust that Sax is a detective.

Duncan and Lionheart --especially the one of you that is the last villager. Don't worry about your own skin just now. You must vote against Paleface. Even if you are a mafioso, you should probably vote against Paleface because then we won't be sure which of you is which.

Whisky Priestess
15:33 / 17.01.03
Whoa ... but ... how is Paleface suddenly a *confirmed* mafioso? Even if Sax is a detective (again, we can't be *sure* of that, all the evidence is circumstantial), has he had time to ask the Mayor about Paleface?

I have to say that if we're going on suspicious behaviour and known associates of the mafia, Lionheart and grant were in cahoots ages ago, defending each other for no other reason than that - we might conjecture - they are both mafia.

Why are Persephone and Sax suddenly so keen to do Paleface in? Do they have something to hide? Where's the *real* evidence for his guilt?

Persephone
16:00 / 17.01.03
Leave off Lionheart for a minute, Whiskey.

Sax is sure about Paleface because Sax is a detective.

I am sure --as much as I can be-- that Sax is a detective, because there's no other detective afoot. Who else could possibly be a detective? Here are the choices:

bioK9 --confirmed not Mafia, possible detective

Whiskey --confirmed not Mafia, does not claim to be detective

Sax --acting as detective

Persephone --acting as villager, does not claim to be detective

Paleface--acting as villager, does not claim to be detective

Duncan--acting as villager, but mostly absentee for most of game. Much more like a mafioso would act than a detective.

Lionheart--acting as villager. Possible detective?

Well, Lionheart... are you a detective? Why doesn't everybody stand up and say whether they are a detective or not? And if you are a detective and you're not Sax, where the fuck have you been?

Whisky Priestess
16:45 / 17.01.03
Killed in one of the early mob hits or lynchings, maybe?

Whisky Priestess
16:50 / 17.01.03
Except I spose Mayor Todd would have told us that ... hmm, I'm seeing the flaw in my suspicions here ... jumping at my own shadow at the moment. Thinking is not my forte at the moment, but I still reckon there's something suspicious about that Lionheart.

OK, if we all vote to kill Paleface next time round and he's not mafia, we kill Sax next because he's clearly lied to us - now that wouldn't be a winning strategy for a Mafia-pretending-to-be-detective, would it?

Or is Sax selling out his last Mafia buddy in order to gain our trust and be one of the last survivors of the game - not sure if it would be possible for him to win on his own - Mayor?

Lionheart
17:10 / 17.01.03
Why has nobody risen and claimed that they're detective? Because the mafia will whack him or her faster than you can say... well pretty fast. Qualyn DID send me that private message. You can private message him and ask. Plus I did not defend grant. I wasn't paying attention to him. I was paying attention to Sax who ISN'T a detective. We know this because he wrote a few posts up "other grant accusers are Persephone, who's a villager (or a detective)", so he's not a detective.

Hmm.. interesting.... Persephone keeps claiming that Sax is a detective. As seen in her post where she says:

"Sax, you ROCK.

Listen to me, villagers. The mafia are going to kill one of us any minute now.

1) Killing Sax will confirm that he's a detective and that Paleface is mafia.

2) Killing me will confirm that I'm a villager.

3) Killing bio K9 or Whiskey won't confirm anything, but it'll leave Sax alive to choose between Duncan or Lionheart."

Sax never said he's a detective. In fact he was speculating about who's a detective. Hmm.. if he's mafia then he framed grant to save his own ass. If he's innocent then he's a villager but then why is Persephone claiming that he's a detective and using that as an excuse to accuse people?

Hmm... i just read this in a persephone post:

"Lionheart--acting as villager. Possible detective?

Well, Lionheart... are you a detective? Why doesn't everybody stand up and say whether they are a detective or not? And if you are a detective and you're not Sax, where the fuck have you been? "

This is weird. Persephone is claiming at first that Sax is a detective. In fact she bases her acusations on him being a detective.. and then she asks me if I'm a detective? (I'm not btw. It'll be much more easier if I was though.) This is weird. A bit suspicious but nothing to make me accuse anybody at the moment though I'm still keeping an eye on Sax.

While the chattering classes of Toddsylvania spent the night considering increasingly baroque theories about who might be in the Mafia, some other foulness was afoot. An odor most foul blankets Toddsylvania in the morning. No, Sax hasn't returned to making Durian fruit puddings. It's the odor of decay.

The citizens follow the stench to the door of BioK9's house. Lionheart, with his hanky over his dainty nose, pushes the door open. The smell hits the citizens like a brick. It's not just any smell of decay. It's the smell of rotten fish. On BioK9's bed, a heap of frozen salmon about 4 feet deep lay melting and stinking.

Fearing the worst, the villagers grab armfuls of salmon off the bed. Alas, their fears prove true. BioK9's corpse lies concealed under the fish. He apparently has been bludgeoned to death.

"Who did this foul deed," Mayor Todd says. "Oh wait, it was the Mafia. We knew that. Now, we must come together and finally root out this scum. Let's go! To the courthouse this instant. There's no time to waste."

************

You may start flinging official accusations NOW.

Persephone
21:40 / 17.01.03
Good for you, Lionheart. If you are a villager, please listen to me.

Bio K9 is confirmed not to be Mafia. I think that he is not a detective. If he is, he had better come forward ...because if he *is* a detective, then he knows for sure that Sax isn't & that's something that we need to know now. You can absolutely trust whatever bio K9 has to say.

Whiskey is confirmed not Mafia and claims not to be a detective. You can absolutely trust whatever Whiskey has to say, too.

Sax is acting like a detective. That is, he claims to have asked about me the first night, Qalyn the second night, and Paleface the third night. No other living player has behaved this way in this game.

Persephone --that's me-- is acting as a villager. I do not claim to be a detective. If I were, I would know that Sax isn't & I would have come forward.

Paleface is acting as a villager. He does not claim to be detective and has not acted like a detective in this game.

Duncan is acting as a villager. He has not acted like a detective in this game.

Lionheart, you are acting as a villager. You say that you are not a detective. That is good.

That is why I asked whether you are a detective, Lionheart. No one else but Sax has behaved like a detective or claimed to be a detective. Therefore, Sax must be the second detective. That means you must trust him, and you must vote against Paleface --if you are a villager.

Persephone
22:02 / 17.01.03
STOP. According to the rules, Mayor Todd, you have to tell us if bio K9 was a villager or a detective.

Ethan Hawke
22:16 / 17.01.03
Oops...he was a simple villager, though not simpler than most. But he was strictly an amateur detective, not an official one.

Persephone
22:42 / 17.01.03
I thought so.

So there it is, the second detective is one of the living. Also the second detective has nothing to fear now -- except being lynched by the village. Which we're not going to let happen.

Possible detectives are Sax, Paleface, and Duncan.

So, Paleface and Duncan... which of you wants to play detective? Or both? Because we are going to ask you some questions about where you were and what you were doing when the village needed you.

Sax
08:19 / 18.01.03
I'm the detective. Honestly. First night I asked about Persephone, second night about Qalyn, last night about Paleface. Only the latter has been confirmed as mafia.

As to the final mafioso... still not sure. If I don't get lynched by the mob, I'll be able to ask and the villagers can't lose.

Then I get one hell of a fee from you guys. And possibly a dame.

Sax
08:20 / 18.01.03
As to why I've been fudging the detective issue a bit, I didn't want to get hit by the mob last night. I didn't. If we finger Paleface that still leaves one mafioso, who will still probably kill me in the night, but at least I'll be able to get the ID before I go...

Whisky Priestess
12:15 / 20.01.03
Sax - Ok, assuming Paleface is Mafia, what first made you suspect him? Was it just because he didn't vote for grant, or were there other indications? And have you any ideas as to who the other mafioso is?

Persephone
15:54 / 20.01.03
I've PM'd Sax... I'm not sure that he's on the board, I've just trawled through most of today's threads and haven't seen any posts by him.

Although Paleface and Duncan are out and about --eerily, Duncan's posted in the "Masturbating over a dead policeman" thread. (I don't mean that as evidence, just coincidence.)

*hopefully*

Maybe they've run away, then we won't have to kill any more people. That would be nice...

Whisky Priestess

Who's left in our depleted village? Eeple ...

Sax - detective?
Lionheart - unknown
Persephone - unknown
Duncan - unknown
Paleface - unknown
Whisky P - not mafia

Of the above, Persephone's sound logic leads me to work on the assumption that Sax is the detective, and therefore to believe what he says about Mafia suspects, which gives:

Sax - detective
Lionheart - unknown
Persephone - unknown
Duncan - unknown
Paleface - Mafia
Whisky P - not mafia

so of 6 of us there are only 3 unknowns - and after the next round of lynching, murder and questions there will be only one - can I suggest, Sax, that you ask about Lionheart next? Grant was very keen to defend him with, as we subsequently discovered, no reason at all. Unless L was a mafioso.

I'm happy to kill Paleface next and see what transpires (sorry to be so cold-blooded about it, but that's informed mobs for you). If he is not mafia ... well, we'll have to have a serious rethink while we're being murdered in our beds. So for tonight -

I accuse Paleface.

The Strobe
17:15 / 20.01.03
Hold on a tic, Whiskey:

Was it just because he didn't vote for grant
Umm, I did? Hello? Not voting for grant was just dumb, as he was categorically mafia. Duncan vote for Sax. Not me. The family keep a tight ship, they'd have executed anyone who betrayed the family.

Persephone
17:17 / 20.01.03
I second Whiskey's accusation, and also her suggestion that Sax inquire about Lionheart --but because I believe that Lionheart is innocent. I think that everything that grant did in his last move was misdirection--accused Duncan, accused Paleface, protected Lionheart. But that's neither here nor there. Sax will find out the answer for us.

Just to make it official:

I accuse Paleface.

Persephone
17:35 / 20.01.03
The family keep a tight ship, they'd have executed anyone who betrayed the family.

We-ell, this is the situation...

1. Sax voted against grant.
2. Sax claims to be a detective and fingers you, Paleface, as mafia.
3. If Sax is playing false, then he's mafia.
4. But Sax voted against grant.
5. And the mafia didn't kill him.

So I'm just saying that particular argument ("they'd have executed anyone who betrayed the family") doesn't hold up under inspection. The mafia's not in the business of killing their own in this game.

Persephone
17:44 / 20.01.03
Oops that last sentence should say, "The mafia's not in the business of killing their own in this game for no good reason."

***sorry, been largely away all (long) weekend)****
Okay, we've started what could be the deciding vote. So far:

Whisky accused Paleface
Persephone accused Paleface
Paleface accused ?
Sax accused ?
Lionheart accused ?
Duncan accused ?

Would all of you who haven't voted, please vote today, ASAP?

thnx,
Your Mayor

Sax
13:29 / 21.01.03
I thought I'd already voted Paleface.

Had a dodgy pudding over the weekend and am laid up. But should be back sleuthing tomorrow.

grant
13:55 / 21.01.03
...dooodgy ppuuddddddddiinnnnngggg...ssssssssssssss...

Whisky Priestess
14:51 / 21.01.03
Sorry. That was probably the one I made with the blood of the Mafia scum we took Jupiter Jade for. I thought it might be a bit off ...

The Falcon
15:00 / 21.01.03
I think the Grant/Sax thing was a double-bluff, where the family agreed to lose one of their own.

So I'm voting Sax again.

Persephone
15:36 / 21.01.03
Go away, grant. You're dead.

Not to sound like a little yappy dog, but I just want to point out to Lionheart that neither Paleface nor Duncan have claimed to be the second detective. It does make sense now that Sax really is the second detective, right? So if Sax says that Paleface is mafia, then Paleface is mafia. So let's take care of Paleface now, okay? Then tonight Sax can clear the last innocent villager and happily ever after, etc.

Ethan Hawke
16:41 / 21.01.03
Votes so far -
Whisky - accused Paleface
Persphone - Accused Paleface
Sax - accused Paleface
Duncan - accused Sax
Lionheart - ?
Paleface - ?

The Falcon
18:11 / 21.01.03
I'm not a detective, I'm a villager.

The Strobe
18:51 / 21.01.03
Duncan, you're neither, you're fucking mafia! And don't you forget it!

I'm the villager.

But I can't really vote for me, so I'm going to go along with Duncan.

Sax.

Persephone
19:28 / 21.01.03
Gawd, I can't believe that we've been playing this game for going on three weeks now...

*rubs eyes*

...well, Lionheart, what do you think about these two jokesters? Neither of them wants to play detective, but they both vote against the detective.

Put your trust in Sax, m'boy... he's the only one who can help you now!

Whisky Priestess
13:14 / 22.01.03
Do we have to have a revote is Lionheart votes Sax? Cos I'm probably not going to change my vote and I don't know who else will? How do we deal with a tie?
