Ooh! Ooh! I've dyed my hair! And I haven't told anyone! (Except you lot, but you won't see me, so that doesn't count!) It is my first new hair colour in two years or something stupid like that. It makes me ridiculously happy - I keep having to go and look at the mirror to check that it really is as cool as I think it is. And it is!!

Might we inquire as to the colour?

I have bought a blender, which is the happiest thing ever. Partly because spinning rotating blades are just incredibly soothing, and partly because it has single-handedly solved most of my previously insurmountable issues with the tyranny of the ways to five. Have you ever had a celery and cucumber and apple smoothie? 'S good.

The thing's a nutritional MacGyver

I found a set of Oliblocks for half price, slightly stained but hey. I can now attach bulbous pastel connecting things to my fridge or other suitable metal appliance! People can play with them at parties, if anyone ever comes round to my apartment and I ever get some furniture!

Well I took a deep breath yesterday and said hello to a dyke artist who was setting her exhibition up in the local Geology Museum, and she invited me to the private view tonight. I'm borrowing a flash car, will play some good music on the journey and will generally show off. Might take some notes and pretend to be a journo, too.

And, tired of cats being so damn cutesy, I have been directed to a place where kitties show their true colours.

Haus, it is as jet-black as Harry Potter's hair, Snape's robes and Dumbledore's twisted, evil heart.

Another vote for Dumbledore being obviously Voldemort.

Spoilers

If he isn't, then he is just achingly incompetent - with the whole Hagrid expulsion fiasco (if you're so fucking wise, why not do something a bit before thirty fucking years later, shitbeard? You know, like even maybe when the guy who dobbed him in TURNED OUT TO BE VOLDEFRIGGINGMORT?), and his incredibly poor choice of Defence Against the Dark Arts masters ("Hello class, this is your new defence against the dark arts master. Tuesdays and Thursdays he'll be evil, the rest of the week just incompetent. Thankyou!"). If you're not actually going to teach people how to defend against the dark arts, why not just abolish the post, thus reducing significantly the number of people at Hogwarts likely to TURN OUT TO BE VOLDECOCKINGMORT?

And as for Slytherin....since all the bad wizards ever come from Slytherin, why not just, you know, suggest to anyone that the sorting hat picks for Slytherin that, although they've done terribly well to get this far, Slytherin house has unfortunately been disbanded and they may want to try reapplying to the community college over the mountains, which does a great HND in TURNING OUT TO BE VOLDEGERBILSHAGGINGMORT.

Kit-Kat - I hate Dumbledore with a fiery passion. Me and a good friend who's another H/S writer compete to trash him. Isn't it sinister that Harry's only chance of survival in Chamber of Secrets is not virtue, not ability, but personal loyalty to Dumbledore? The man's worse than Voldemort if you ask me.

Incidentally, was it you that was recommending the Jennings books? I just found one in a charity shop for 25p - I haven't read it yet but I suspect it will make me very happy, so it belongs i this thread.

It might easily have been me. Is it one of the orange ones, though? They rejigged the slang for that reissue, so Jennings and Darbishire go around saying things like 'terrifically well done', which is just plain wrong. But still, a thing of beauty and a joy forever. Fossilized fish-hooks, &c.

Also, re Dumbledore

Spoiler

There's the bit in Goblet of Fire which, if it's not accidental, is the clumsiest bit of foreshadowing I've seen for ages - the part near the end where Harry sees a 'strange gleam of triumph' or something similar in Dumbledore's eyes (I think this is after Voldemort has got hold of some of the Potter claret, but could be wrong). So yes, clearly evil...

Damn. It is orange. What should they be saying?

Thanks for the GoF tip - shall look out when I trawl through (I'm currently crawling through the books making very copious notes so that I will never have to read them again, hopefully).

Thanks to a friend, i've just discovered Jacky Fleming's cartoons. Check out a thing called 'be a bloody train driver then' as well: can't find downloadable images, but a typical example is a picture of a judge with the caption:

As Judge Senile not only blatantly flaunted his ignorance and stupidity, but was also provocatively dressed in a wig and gown, we can only assume he was inviting violent assault...

Congrats to all deserving. From the little things and then some...

Been quite happy meself with the job, the girl, and the entertainment. Also have a little chinchilla as a friend now. I must tell you, having one is as close to befriending a pikachu as you can get. Well except for the syllabic name usage and um...the electricity. You can get them from breeders though...So go now!

Also...lady friend got a new job with a considerable raise and I'm playing new versions of video games that raised me some 15 years ago.

Man...life is good.

Those big fat pencils with a little plastic packet of four teeny-tiny little pencils on a string at the end. Haven't seen one of them in twenty years, but they were just lully.

Another excited 'yes' for mordant's pencils! Rah! and remind me utterly of school trips to local historical places of interest/wildfowl sanctuaries/museums... where the only attraction was:

The Heritage Gift Shop!! All the fluoro rubbers/notepads/pencils your heart (and sticky little paws) could desire. All embossed with a classy logo to show your friends.

And how about those crayon-pens - plastic pen containing eight or ten mini crayons, to change colours you simple pulled the one you were using out of the pen-tip, and shoved it in the other end, thus pushing the next colour to the tip...

God, I love novelty pens.

I remember them-- "Pop-A-Points"! They were ace. I won one off of a colouring-in competition, and it smelt of lemons.

I'm home (at my parent's house) for the first time in almost a month. It's cold as the house is 100 years old and there's no heat outside the stove. BUT there's animals everywhere and my brother's recently returned from London and Graz. So life is good. Siiighh.

Diana Wynne Jones goes to Number 10 - for Deva - don't you think she makes it sound like Mrs Pentstemmon's house?

Giving a friend a hug when he really needed it, but normally wouldn't let anyone touch him.

Also: giving someone a king size duvet, when all he had previously was a very small single that has a personality of its own and he found in a cupboard.

It's Friday and I half a half day and a friend is staying the weekend. I don't think I've been happier (and confused) than I have these past few weeks. Which makes me nervous because I keep expecting someone to pull the rug away.

But for the moment - Happy

Ooh, just reading your post made me feel happy, Bear - hope it all goes well.

I'm off up to Glasgow tonight for a weekend with my own SO, so can we swap happy smiles?

It's Friday, I'm full of 'millet munchie' and fresh juice, and I have a cup of tea steaming away here beside me. All is well.

Louis Armstrong's Hot 5s and 7s. Inventing the jazz solo, cheery as fuck, and rocking nuts with a tuba. If you do not smile when some of this is being played, you are dead.

Kit-Kat: thank you! It's joyous to see new words from Diana, since I know people have been really worried about her health lately, and I'm disgustingly overexcited to know that she's friends with Peter Dickinson (though I suppose she would be, really). She is so lovely!

Giving me a happy at the moment: finished a story and showed it to two people, one of whom called me a bastard and the other called me a Bad Man. My work on this planet is done.

Waking up on a chilly winter's morning, all lazy languid, wrapped in the arms of someone with beautiful big brown eyes, smiling at me in a way that does weird things to the rhythm of my heart.... after 4 years of going solo this has got to be the best I've felt in way too long..... *huge cheesy unabashed grin*

Definately huggy yesterday - went to the village hall for the Christmas Fair and was wowed by a big, butch dyke in a handsome pinstripe suit, sitting behind the raffle stand. Yay! I am not alone in the village!!

She didn't even notice me, though.
