Do you ever sleep, Rothkoid? I was just thinking I'd have missed you (went out shopping, then for dinner) and yet here you are still.

I should really get to bed soon, though. Home tomorrow - hurray!

SLEEP?

What is that?

Sigh. I tend not to sleep too much. Haven't for the past couple of weeks. It's all bad. Bah. BUt am about to go to bed, as tiredness is catching up with me...

Am I the only one up tonight? Well...I won't be for long. Must leave soon. Staring at computer screen hurting brain. Ouch...

Just realized that I'm the 53rd highest posting 'Lither (out of 1,463), according to the member stats. 887 posts. Not including the hundreds of posts made by my burnt-out previous suit. How can one say so much and still have so little worth saying?

Must. go. home.
Good night, all.

I'm still here, but again, not for long. It's only 11pm here but I'm going to go to bed anyway. That's the sort of bad rebel I am.

Oh, I'm here. I'm always here. And I'm discovering, much to my consternation, that De Stijl is a kinda sorta good album.

Eek.

Then again, if Jack White can pull it off, maybe I can too...

Bonjour tout le monde, je suis ici ce soir!

Pardon the french but it just hit me just thow great La Guerre Des Tuques (The Dog Who Stopped The War) was.
Im irked that I missed the wine tastine at the SAQ ( Societe des Alchohol de Quebec), they just brought out the Beaujelais....
Watching a video by Les Cowboy Friglants (I think thats their name)... some damn good stuff being put out by the local french scene..its too bad that the only stuff that gets any attention in the english portion of queebek is the seppy crap. Arrrrrrgh! Oh well there's always Louis Attaque for my dose of french music...

Bonne Nuit! Je n'aime pas La Guerre Des Tuques parce-que..er.. je ne sais quoi... le chien morir? Well.. it's been a while since I've seen it, but that always bothered me...

Anyways, how are you tonight? I'm up writing on European perceptions of Turkey in the 16th century and listening to 2.5 hours of Leonard Cohen!

04:25 / 22.11.02
Actually I was still in Elementary School last I saw it..so it may have gotten better in the misty memory dulled by time (20 years or so)
I soo love Leonard... Suzzane still send shivers up my spine when I hear it. although I cant claim to have 2.5 hours to listen to...just Suzzane and First We Take Manhatten in .mp3 and the soundtrack from Natural Born Killers. I've noticed tjoug I have a tendancy to appreciate Candian musicians more than others...patriotism? Or the fact that CanCon rocks!!!

Je voudrais trois tranches au jambon.

That's it. I'm done, French-wise.

12:43 / 22.11.02
I can borrow CDs from work and got a 2CD 'essential Leonard' the other day, hence the 2.5 hours.

Hmmm...I can't say I'm a fan of Canadian musicians more than others.. hmm..(flips through CD wallet)
Leonard Cohen, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Leahy, and Ashley MacIssac. but I don't really listen to the last two much.

I used to like old Spirit of the West. Skinny Puppy was alright. Tragically Hip are okay, but I'll never buy one of their CDs.

Oh! Stan Rogers! Love him. Who else is there?

Anyone know anything about fixing laptop power supplies?

Trijhaos
21:12 / 22.11.02
Not really. Did you try jiggling the wires? When I have trouble with electronics, that usually does the trick.

The Return Of Rothkoid
01:47 / 23.11.02
It's more than that. The internal jack's loose, and the whole thing ain't booting. Or, rather, it's not getting power from the cord.

Fucking hell. Everything sucks now.

I have had to drag Ganesh off the laptop and lock him in a cupboard to get online, but I am also tapping my fingers instead of tapping my toes and propping up a bar downtown, Maz. How you doin'?

01:48 / 24.11.02
I am. I don't have a social life. I'm exploring the possibilities of downloading huge quantities of tiny bad-quality anime, now that I have cable.

I'm ridiculously tired though since the cable guy woke me up at some stupid hour like 9am. I need more vitamins and exercise. I nearly ran out of cigarettes, but I found some tobacco I'd forgotten about. It's about a mile to the shops, up and down hills, and I'm too knackered to even do that.

Essay writing time! Social life comes on December 5th, 9pm! Woo!

Actually, essay writing is being divided between watching the Committments for the 34th time and Barbelith of course...

Hee, hi ZoCher. I miss this thread, I never get to come by anymore since I have to go to bed and get sleep so I can go to work, where I do nothing.

It's all cold up here in the Albany area, and it can't decide if it wants to rain or snow so it's settling for just being very very windy. Thus, indoors. That, and it's Albany, not that hoppin' a town.

Fridge- Just try to make sure it has sound before you dl. Very frustrating to try and lip read. Especially if it's dubbed, and you don't speak Japanese.

i'm on Eastern Standard Time now, so it's not very late here. Still thinking of going to bed though.

it looks like it's going to be next year before I get to see any of this stuff anyway... perhaps I should just turn on the TV instead, there's a mad suggestion

The Return Of Rothkoid

Well, I'm here. And I'm listening to PainKiller, which should give you some kind of insight into what's happening 'round these parts.

Oh, and I just watched The Boys From Brazil.

ZoCher, 'Nesh - assuming you're around - didja spot that the fucking roof of Stonewall on Oxford St collapsed last night? Well, part of the upstairs dancefloor - fucking hell. Luckily, nobody killed... luckily.

Have you ever seen a ghost?

I once met a cat that segued into the devil and told me that he'd had his eye one me.

Sorry, meant to be de-freaking you. Hmm. I'll get back to you on that.

Odd that you're Painkilling, Roth, as I've just written a review on Laswell's new disc, a dub affair that I actually liked.

I have seen a ghost, and it was a thoroughly unthreatening experience. I've lived with more than one (and I don't mean financially dodgy flatmates, either) and it always bothered others a lot more than it did me.

I've just been watching some Cowboy Bebop (good) and some Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Here's a tip if you want to get XP to bluescreen, which is a lot harder than it was with win98. Watch an AVI with RealOne, and then randomly fuck around with the "where am I in the video" progress bar while it's still playing. Never fails, particularly if the AVI has a dodgy soundtrack anyway. The sensible person will pause the video before changing position.

I have to get to Baltimore tomorrow night. It's going to cost me $80 or so, and it's only a fucking hour away. Amtrak bastards.

The Return Of Rothkoid
01:25 / 27.11.02
Ooh. Interesting, vid - what's the disc called? Interestingly, the PainKiller stuff stands up remarkably once you get past the initial squonk factor...

I'm around. Spent too much money already this week - bought rings as a treat for me (yeah, I'm all genteel biker now) and found Eno's Here Come The Warm Jets and Music For Films, Tricky's Blowback and The Cure's Japanese Whispers for a tenner each (that's about three-fifty of those pound things) yesterday. So, of course, I bought.

Bah. I am WEAK. Weak, I tell you.

The Return Of Rothkoid
01:30 / 27.11.02
Oh, and discovered that the laptop is gonna cost at least $350 to fix, too. So I thought I might buy one of these ex-work computers that I can get - an early PIII (about 450, I'd guess, higher if I'm lucky) with 128M RAM and 8G hdd, modem, etc - and slave my laptop's drive to it. Laptop was a P2 anyway, so I figure that for $150 for a PIII isn't too bad - especially as HDs and such are relatively cheap, and I can piecemeal upgrade it.

Anyone done this? Got any thoughts about doing it?

videodrome
02:09 / 27.11.02
Prolly not a bad idea, Roth. The motherboard is going to be the most limiting factor in upgrades, but a PIII is recent enough that you should have little trouble. Look to see if it's got an AGP slot rather than an on-board video card, so that when you have all sorts of extra cash and want games to look purty you can upgrade the videocard.

As long as the thing is somewhat clean and all that it's hard to go too far wrong. I just built up from an old PII system, and that wasn't a big deal - split it into a pair of machines, with components going to each.

I think, if I was going to go for a laptop again, I'd buy a low-spec one, as long as I could have a desktop as well.

I have a top-line laptop here which I got to take to the US and use as my main PC, and it's been a nightmare. I can't install Linux on it, because nothing bloody works and it overheats like a polar bear in a sleeping bag. In Miami. So I have to use XP, spit spit.

The major things I want portable computer power for are:

- browsing and email, you don't need power for that
- a bit of writing, again, no real need for power
- listening to music and watching DVDs - hardware dependent for the latter, the former is easy

So what's wrong with an older model?

Can't even play most games on this thing since it's got no hardware 3D acceleration... though there's always MAME and ZSNES.

The Return Of Rothkoid
22:33 / 27.11.02
Well, things have just gotten better for me, slightly. For $440 Australian - or about four pounds, I guess - I've managed to get an ex-work PIII 866 with 10.2G HD, 128M RAM, network card and monitor. And a desk, chair, set of drawers and a partition.

This is making my deceased laptop a little less ROTHKOID SMASH!-making. Now, to soup that sucker up...

Nope, you're not. I still haven't seen it either and have benn purposly avoiding all the D.D. discussion posts until I do. Silly me it was on TV the other day and I didn't ask my friend to tape it. Arrrgh!
