I think, if I was going to go for a laptop again, I'd buy a low-spec one, as long as I could have a desktop as well.
I have a top-line laptop here which I got to take to the US and use as my main PC, and it's been a nightmare. I can't install Linux on it, because nothing bloody works and it overheats like a polar bear in a sleeping bag. In Miami. So I have to use XP, spit spit.
The major things I want portable computer power for are:
- browsing and email, you don't need power for that
- a bit of writing, again, no real need for power
- listening to music and watching DVDs - hardware dependent for the latter, the former is easy
So what's wrong with an older model?
Can't even play most games on this thing since it's got no hardware 3D acceleration... though there's always MAME and ZSNES. |
