Not sure about the harp - canada association I'm afraid. The guiness/harp/Ireland bond seems a little stronger (and more entertaining). Unless you want acoustmatic music, and then anywhere francophone is great.

I must read the book, I remember liking the first two, my post-apocalyptic phase (along with Mary Wesley's The Sixth Seal and Jean Ure's Plague 99) was in full bloom but I couldn't say whether I'm still enamoured with the Obernewtyn books.

Still trying to study. 1 exam tomorrow (Chinese History: 500,000BCE to 1200CE), 1 Thursday (Canada 500,000BCE to 1900CE), and 1 essay Thursday (16th century European travel accounts of Turkey).

I got the garlic pizza, I did. 10 hours later and I can still taste it... in a good way, or course.

Right! Back to Champlain! It's -26C out right now, goddamnit. What's it like in England/Australia/NY/etc.?

Fun Fact: A few years back, some senator from Vermont, through sneaking a rider in on a bill, got Lake Champlain officialy classified as one of the Great Lakes so Vermont would qualify for some 'Great Lake states college fund' the federal government had....everyone just ignored him though...

Well, I'm back again. And at work. Though there's fires in the next suburb (one of fucking 36 around Sydney) and I could well lose my house if things go pear-shaped.

I just saw the fires on the news...thats fucking horrid. Here's to a lot of rain heading out your way. The worse we get out here is ice storms..which leave hundreds of thousands without electricity and a the world covered in a crystaline wonderland...that you cant go out in.

Supposedly, I'm getting on the roof tonight. To clean anything off so there's nothing flammable up there. Not a very cheery thought when you've got the head fire honcho in the state saying it's quite likely that today's going to see more houses lost. From 3pm yesterday, there was a new fire every 2 minutes.

Hello. I'm in, but am probably turning in now for fear of further grimness and moroseness. Final college party/disco thing of term. Quite good til near the end, where I felt awfully alone and all my friends were buggering off to dance near people-who-weren't-me. Now feel substantially pooey, probably because it's late and I'm tired and have had a few beers. Still, I do remember it all being fun at some point. Was DJing at the damn thing which was quite good - seemed to go down well for once. Folks, I tell you this: the Scatman is your friend (John, not Crowthers).

Yeah Roth, let us know how things are going. Im currently imersed in the "think unsexy thoughts" mantra...but changed Unsexy to Unfiery. (hey, the unsexy worked when the female friends were discussing various acrobatics in my prescence...) so it has to be sending SOME good mojo out your way.

Its 11:23pm, listening to Kris Krisstofferson. A cd that I used to listen to as a wee child at my gradmothers when trying to fall asleep (on 8-track, don't I feel dated now..)

I turned off the Leonard Cohen and replaced it with T.Rex, so my Saturday night spent studying has gotten a lot more cheery. Reading lots of Barbelith can help too.

Hope your roof is very unfiery right now, Roth. (is the short of Rothkoid 'Roth', 'Koid' or 'Rothy'?

I'm still here. Not much roof-work got done today - it was mostly clearing out other stuff. The fires appear to be a little more under control today - since this morning, the smoke has cleared, which either is a) a Good Thing or b) means that it's just blowing the other way. But it was pretty heavy and low-down. The fires are, at their closest point, only about 25km away from the CBD.

There's rumours of rain for Tuesday, though.

Still feeling a bit shite, but I'm finding that Louis Armstrong's Hot 5s and 7s collection ease that a bit. It's hard to be sad when Louis is blowing through the stereo at mind-shearing volume.

I'm going back downstairs to finish watching Goldfinger - Gert Frobe's about to get to say the best line in history - but will be back around later.
