seanmcglinchey -- probably only while you are doing it and for a short while afterwards.

BTW, be careful -- hyperventilating before breath-holding attempts can cause you to black out.

For Zelda, it's Kondo Koji.

See Syntax Error's Game Music Composer List for more.

Mordant: you'll have to talk to the board hosters. If you don't have direct FTP access to where it's stored, robots.txt isn't going to be of much use - unless you're able to configure your own and use their file management system - assuming they have one.

That looks very useful indeed, many thanks. I'm after the licensed stuff - or rather, a pal of mine is looking to send demos to them.

Q) Are there more pets or children per household on average in the UK?

. - I believe the average number of children per household in the UK has slipped from 2.4 to 2.1. Given that most households have either a cat, a dog, a hamster, a rabbit, a guinea pig or a fish and many have a combination of several of these, I reckon the pets win. Of course I don't know for sure, but I guess if you had the time and the inclination you could look it up on the 2001 UK census site. If you find the precise answer, I'd be interested to know!

Well I can't find anything in the census about pets just yet, but it still makes for fascinating reading. An amazing 390,000 people put their religion down as Jedi Knight- that's 0.7% of the population, on the same level as Sikhs, or the same as all the Jews and Buddhists combined... That's the power of the internet I guess... Anyway...

seanmcglinchey> In terms of buying game soundtracks there's Gamemusic.com, whose prices are an absolute joke, or Amazon.co.jp, who are much cheaper but may give you problems trying to find what you want. Anyone got any others?

seanmcglinchey--it's prob'ly not gonna kill you, but lack of oxygen to the brain causes brain cells to die, so, y'know, keep it to a minumum. i must say i'm curious why you asked--my vision is of you throwing temper tantrums w/yr mom. (sorry.)

everybody, what in hell's a "dookie rope"? as in from the el-p song "dr. hell no and the praying mantus"(sic), "i'm wearin' a dookie rope and some oven mitts." i'm way too scared to google "dookie rope."

I got an email this morning from someone, but when I hit reply, the message comes back with a "host does not exist" message....

...shouldn't the address automatically be correct if you hit reply? Any solutions?

Not necessarily - it might have been remailed, or they might have fiddled their "from" address (I've been known to do this, to send from a webmail account to look like they are from an office address - both mine, though, obviously). Or, by accident or design, the "reply to" address might be different to the "from" address. Have you tried cutting and pasting the "from" address into the "to" line?

I use Yahoo, but I tried copying and pasting the address... It happened last year as well. A friend of mine had used capitals and a misspelling somehow in the host name of the email address... Ah well.

mordant~you could be totally right, i just don't know. (and, i've wanted to say this for a bit now--thanks so much, i've been using this new brush w/my hairdryer and i'm glad it's being appreciated!)

what's another (good) word for lascivious? so few people know what it means, but it's really the best word for, uh, itself. i can't think of one that fully grasps the same connotations. the alternatives don't satisfy me. but when i use it, like i said, many ppl have no idea what i mean.

If somebody doesn't know the meaning of the word lascivious, assuming they have reached adulthood, there is probably no helping them. However...lecherous, lustful, lubricious, libidinous - those are the ls. Oh, and libertine, but that's a bit different. Salacious? Sexed-up? Semolina?

Seanmcglinchey, the Housemartin's breeding season runs from May to August.

There's a whole heap of info on the RSPB site, they have pages on Housemartins including (if you use the links on the left of each bird page) details of nesting and breeding. If you use the bird search you can find everything they know, and what the RSPB don't know about birds probably isn't worth knowing.

Ooh and still on the subject of birds...I don't know where you are in Ireland, but if you're in Northern Ireland you could get in touch with your local wildlife trust. They have a reallly wide range of local knowledge and can help you with any wildlife questions.

And I would imagine Ireland has a similar scheme.

I think it's all in the way you say it. Give them a withering look until they pretend to know what it means and crawl to their dictionaries in shame and despair.

It's cold & wintry here in the hills in South Oz at present and I'm finding it hard to decide on the clothes I should take on my trip to the UK (arriving in London on July 2 and later going to North Wales).

How warm is a UK summer, really? Should I assume that the summer gear I usually wear in Adelaide (e.g. sandals, short-sleeved or sleeveless & low cut tops) will be suitable?

Bwah.

Ha.

Ha.

That will be suitable for probably about 30% of the time. We've had a heatwave for the last fortnight or so, but it looks like a cooler snap is coming in now...

Basically, the English summer is getting hotter (climate change). But it's still pretty inconsistent, and climate change is also doing odd things to the cloud systems. So, some of the time you'll have hot days - these days London can be as hot as New York in Summer, so 30 degrees or so (celsius); outside the London microclimate the temperature drops a few degrees, but picks up again in the deep south - say, Cornwall. But intermissions of clouds and cooler weather are frequent, and torrential rain from a clearish sky is one of the standards of the English picnic season. Expect sycles of humidity followed by thunderstorms. Most people carry a brolly, or invest in a waterproof sunhat, or just resign themselves to the fact that every so often they will get soaked.

The North Welsh summer....well, let's just say you might want to bring some long trousers. And long-sleeved tops. And possibly a sou'wester. North Wales is a beautiful place, with many fine features, but let's just say you don't go there for consistent sunny weather.

Oh thank fucking Christ... I've been sweating more than Ole' Joe Mc Sweaty, who was infamous in four counties for his general sweatiness.

Question: Has anyone here gone for laser-eye surgery? Or have an account of anyone they know directly who has?

On housemartins and robins - some circumstantial evidence: I saw a thrush feeding chicks on the nest yesterday, so would expect other songbirds such as robins to have hatched or to be hatching around now as well. The blue-tits I noticed going in and out of one of the trees in the Parks seem to have moved on though, so YMMV. Robins pair up early in the year, so some may have fledglings already, I imagine. Housemartins might be a tiny bit later - I have come across reports of housemartin fledglings leaving the nest in September and even early October, which is very late, especially for passage migrants. We have swifts here, and they leave the country as soon as the young can fly - early to mid August, usually.

My friend Oliver is very happy with his radial keratotomy. It was a little distracting seeing him without glasses at first, but now, it's all good. He sees fine, too.
