I couldn't really figure out a better place to post this, but I just picked up the new dead prez/Outlawz mistape, Can't Sell Dope Forever, and it fucking rules. I figured the Outlawz would basically totally embarrass themselves trying to rap with dead prez (who are undeniably great mcs), but Young Noble has some fucking amazing verses. The title track is a ruling club banger and definite top five for the year contender, and even though a lot of the production isn't really to my taste, the lyrics are awesome all the way through.

Tbis is easily the best year for indie rap in ages.

Well, I've been waiting for somewhere to post this. I picked up 'Darcmind's' Symptomatic of a Greater Ill album, which has just been released by Anticon, after languishing since 1996/7.
While it definitely sounds like it's come from that era (strong DITC and Co Flow vibe) it's a stellar release. KevRoc the MC is the main draw - his flow is damn strong; a deep dope flow reminiscent of Chali 2na or Roots Manuva, but with a really weird syllable hopping oddness...reallyt it's quite unique. I can see why the Anticon boys worship at Darcmind's alter. But it's a great missing New York classic album. The production is lovingly done - no shocks but solid sonically tight beats for Kev to do his thing over. Pete Rock, Diamnond D style. We're definitely in boom bap territory, but they're are a few surprises and the production is satisfyingly tight.
'Visions of a Blur' is a standout, as is 'BMOC' and old school homage with a weird synth stab that elevates it into genius territory. Cop it, it's great, and although it's nearly 10 years old, it sounds fresh. Definitely a hidden gem.
