FOR GREAT JUSTICE, Stoatie. My mother's waiting on the all-clear, but assuming all is well is off to France for a walking holiday. All hail the curative power (hopefully) of walking shoes!

I hope it works out for you too, Haus. My partner's, well, stepmum (father's wife) was given a year to live about two years ago due to stomach cancer, and she's responded like a motherfucker to the chemo treatment, actually better than they'd expected, so I have a notion of how difficult this can be. So, you know, wishes for similar resolution here.

Best wishes to you and yours, one and all. Hope Luck throws you all a decent chance and that you smack it with all your might and score big.

As for me? I remembered the guitar today, after almost a week of no playing. It was a bit upset with me at first. But after a bit of tweaking, stroking, and tickling, we were soon reacquainted and are now bosom buddies again.

And then Dog threw me a golden musical boney!

A nice simple song with strong lyrics, that came almost fully formed song. I can even sing and play it at the same time. No need for a drum machine, another guitar track, or any chords or anything else. Just singin' and pluckin'. Me and the guitar.

I'm sooo chuffed, in a sort of folk music kind of way. I'm going to howl and whistle all night.

YAAAAAAAAY!

All the best to your mum, Haus. I shall transfer my "get well" wishes from mine to yours, as it were.

Me? Today I'm, sadly enough, being made happy by consumer goods. Namely, the Xbox 360 and the new Mastodon album. Today's shopping went a little over-budget.

So was it the album or the next-gen console that was a bridge too far Stoats?

Xbox 360 is not a consumer good. Xbox 360 is a consumer's GOD!!!

I hope to be barbequoted on that. Someone?

Why me happy?

1) I finished my new song - it's the first of my finger-plucking (rather than chord-based) songs that I can actually sing at the same time as playing, without any other parts. It's simple. And I really like it. *smiles*

2) Thunder and lightning right outside my window, just now. Big cracks of blue in the muddy lucking sky really close to where I'm sitting. The thunder set off car alarms and made a dog bark, and the lighning forks were so close and vivid, I thought if I looked I'd see Arnie outside, naked, pissed, and ready to hunt down an innocent. I haven't seen lightning that close for ages. The hairs on the back of neck are on end. Amazing.

My new job.

My hands hurt, but my brain does not. I think about whatever I want while I repair moderately ancient things which are beautiful and very expensive. It's not difficult work. I let my hands work while I listen to community radio and talk about art and the administration. And I get paid more than I was making before, and eventually I will have health benefits.

I also walk to work, which makes me feel healthy and good. When it starts raining, I'll probably start riding the bus, but for now it's gorgeous.

Congrats on the job, id - if a person can find happiness in their work then they're half way to perfecting life.

I'm intrigued - what kinda things?

I'm imagining some Victorian steam-powered gizmo made of polished brass and mahogany, with twirly things on and a gold-plated plaque on the base, saying something like "De'Ath & Sons Combobulating Engine".

But I'm probably wrong.

fred coming back rocks.

I'm getting the happy now because I just spent a nice evening with some friends I haven't seen in about five years (one of whom lurks here, too!) and a guy who I work with and have known for years but rarely see outside the office, and everyone was just the same as they used to be. Which was nice, because I remembered them all being pretty fucking cool, and it was great that they all still were.

Apparently they'd already decided to time how long it took before I mentioned badgers, though.

It was really quite lovely.

Last night a flatmate managed to fuck up all our Wi Fi connections, while setting his own up. Lots of strong arguments which I stayed out of, but then barely 6 hours later he´s amazingly figured it all out, and it´s running faster than before and with more security. Sweet. Maybe it will reach onto the terrace now, and I can type in the autumn sunshine.

No luck with the terrace idea, but I have discovered that if you CTRL - click on a Barbelith post, it selects the whole post. This may not be the most useful thing ever, but it makes me happy, and that's all that counts.
