"What do Captain America, Terry and the Pirates, or Dan Clowes have to do with barbelith as a concept?"

Ouch.

I think this is a very interesting discussion, but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Tom suggested we might get a new forum, not will get a new forum. Just because we can doesn't mean that we should.

I'm a long-time gamer, and this will destroy my standing in the Geek Clique, but I don't think we really need a new forum for gaming discussion. Games are like theatre. If you weren't there, discussion is almost impossible. Not that general theory wouldn't be possible, but are there really enough people willing to dig that deep on the board to sustain a whole new forum?

I can understand where the pro-gamers are coming from. I post in the comics forum here on Barbelith because even though there are other boards that discuss a more diverse range of comics and have people who know the history or current news better than what can be found here, I find that the discussions run much deeper on Barbelith. Having compared the few gaming forums I've visited to the few, random threads on the subject here at Barbelith, I can share the pro-gamers desire to see a gaming forum started.

If I had to cast a vote, I'd say a Research forum would be very helpful, followed by a Body forum (which might include sex).

Eureka! Sex threads can go in the Playground, yeah? Because sex is fun, right?

I'd go with the idea of an 'Under The Bridge' style trolling forum if I thought it'd actually work. One of the features which defines encopresis, however, is the tendency to crap everywhere but the toilet...

And following that...anyone noticed that Mumra is attempting to bait Ganesh and SFD elsewhere in a way that is surprising for an "old-school lurker" who has only looked in a few times? or posted a few times. Or registered ages ago but only just came back...

Anyone care to wager on when the capital letters start?

Tried it- doesn't work. Plus, how many people are actually going to want to use it? Two or three, max?

I'm quite aware that Mumrandrew's attempting to bait me elsewhere on the board. He's doing so so transparently that it's quite pitiful.

Seriously though Ganesh. When have I 'baited' you? Or Shortfatdyke for that matter? And my name's Ben. But I'd prefer it if you called me Mumra.

Looks like there may well be a call for the return of a non-Policy related forum. Although it may be primarily filled with threads pertaining to Mordy's homework, there have been other threads recently seeking assistance for RL stuff.

Sorry to bump an extremely long thread which everyone's probably forgotten the content of by now, but I had a really odd idea while I was walking the dog- it's kind of been discussed before, but as far as I know only really in terms of a thread rather than a forum.
A Quarantine forum.
Where threads which have succumbed to trolls (if they haven't been ejected anyway) or threads which have just become plain nasty fights, can be moved to if the relevant moderators or Tom think they're disrupting the flow (man) or causing "forum rot" (if such a thing exists) if they're not heinous enough to be deleted outright, as I know this tends to cause some consternation among non-trolls who've posted to them. Anyone entering the forum would therefore have a vague idea what to expect.
Just an idea. Probably about 60% serious.

Not wishing to start another shitstorm like last time, but what about a "Diversions" forum. I know it's a bit close to the Conversation, but maybe somewhere to post links to all those cool flash animations and interesting websites. That way these links wouldn't be lost after a month, and we'd have kind of a cool list of links, without it actually being a links page. And it'd be one that was constantly updated with a minimum of work required. Just a thought.

Oh, and I just wondered if any decisions on a new forum had been reached. I'm still all for the research/text forum.
