I'm also under the impression that the CJ thing was misdirection. As was, I believe, his brother's position at NASA. I may be chasing windmills, but I was really under the impression Toby is still protecting someone else.

Yay.

I'm vaguely confused by her reluctance to get into the relationship and give up the White House grind. Wasn't her storyline from the past...like...EVER, all about how she could never make a relationship work because of her job? Wouldn't the natural extension that be a "I'm free!" attitude at the end of the term...I could be thinking about this wrong, but it sort of through me for a loop that she was so confused about what she wanted to do.

Love Toby. I'm loving when people come over to visit Toby and have this strangely tense but heartwarming talks. He's like the wise old guy no one can really be mad at cause he's clearly smarter than everyone.

Two episodes in a row without The Josharnaut was really weird.

One episode to go...damn. Sniff.

I think CJ's just so used to being in control and she's afraid to lose that by having a relationship. You could see some of that in the formality with which she was setting up the booty calls with Danny at Leo's wake.

I loved the whole Toby/CJ conversation. "I may have found a typo in the Constitution." It reminded me (in a very good way) or Sorkin's dialogue.

*sniff*

I've seen better finales, but still...tugged my heartstrings in places. A little disappointed there was no "future reunion" segment, but maybe they abandoned that idea with the passing of Spencer.

I was hoping for at least one moment of the "the old gang" together, but it seemed fairly scattered. Kind of a shame they couldn't fit Toby into the episode anywhere.

Mallory's gift to Jed was perfect, though.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip here we come, I guess.

Not one of their greatest episodes, but it was definitely classy. And an interesting variation as far as series finales go. Reminded me a bit of the last episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show (with the entire staff except for Ted being laid off).

I think the dramatic tension suffered a bit from having gotten most of their issues resolved in the past couple episodes. And even the the President struggling with the decision to pardon Toby seemed kind of cold since we weren't really invited into his decision-making process.

Oddly, with all the goodbyes, the two most affecting moments for me were Charlie being ignored by the guy taking over his office (oh, how I wanted to punch) and seeing Aaron Sorkin in the audience at the inauguration.

OK, I had to reach for a tissue in the scene when Bartlett gives Charlie his old copy of the Constitution saying "I don't need this any more" or some such but otherwise I thought the episode a bit flat. I think I'd been expecting us to return to the opening of the Bartlett library and everyone remembering the last day, I expected some flashbacks, I expected some serious reminiscing, though I suppose we had that at Leo's funeral.

It was brave of them not to hold the election until the last two episodes but as they weren't intending to continue the show the whole post-election sequence were a little difficult to care deeply about.

Although I did 'squeeee!' for the return of Sam, as anyone would.
