I was half way through writing an article based on a few Grant Morrison quotes about 'Nostalgia = Fear of the Future' and the 'New Authenticity' but ..er.. I've been too busy writing mad prose & comics scripts and dealing with real world stuff and being miserable to finish it.

I'll get back on it tomorrow though.

I don't know anything.

I'm an authority on... Marillion, which does win the award for most shitty idea for a 'zine contribution, hands and trousers down.

I'm a writer, but so is everyone else.

I know shitloads about Chesterton... maybe that's an idea... a profile on a committed Catholic and 'orthodox' thinker who's still revolutionary enough to be completely Barbelith? If you want a reference point, try Jack Fear's brain with my horribly optimistic attitude, and a side order of Rizla, expressionless and ephemerat. That's what he'd come across as if he was alive today and posting...

Would take a bit of rereading of the Autobiography, 'The Everlasting Man', 'Orthodoxy' and probably his bios on St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis of Assisi and his lit. crit. books on Browning and Dickens, to say nothing of liberal quotes from 'The Man Who Was Thursday', 'The Napoleon Of Notting Hill', 'Platitudes Undone', 'T^he Ball And The Cross', 'The Flying Inn' and a lot of the essays, and then a prose cruncher to squash a man his size into 'zine format... but, give me a couple of weeks and it can be done. Useful, Mr. C?

You mean GK Chesterton? That would rock.

Jack, pleeaaase write something on Chesterton and save the Books section from largely irrelevant stuff like beasties.

I have something on Hawksmoor in the pipeline. Do people think a straight account or a more psychogeographical piece would work better? (I am not sure I have the knowledge for the latter, is all)

I didn't think your article was largely irrelevant, cat... Really enjoyed it.

Oh so humble. It was a wonderful piece, and has drawn my little brother, North Bay's Leading Cryptozoologist, into the Barbelith fold.

Hi, playing with an idea for an article about the phenomenon of how reality TV shows like Survivor and Big Brother could be seen as an example of how the media can take something that is seen as the domain of the 'Lunatic Fringe' and transform it into mainstream, prime time viewing (speaking of Voyerism in this case).

To clarify : Big Brother has made it's debut in sunny South Africa. What astounds me is that, where the general feeling towards the show was decidedly lukewarm during the three months preceding the actual launch of the show, it has now become a national addiction.

One of the questions with regards to this: If this is a socialogical experiment, who are the guinee pigs - the 12 individuals living 3 months of their lives on national TV, or the wider population who cannot resist the addiction of being able to take a sneak peak into the lives of perfect strangers?

Don't know whether this has been done before on Barbelith, but just an idea for a possible 'zine article.

I know this thread's kind of died, and you're probably (due to recent events etc) deluged with stuff, but-
how do I go about submitting an article? I have one in my head (it'll take a couple of days to find the time to actually get it out) about press coverage of the whole 9/11-possible war thing... my job (press reader) involves me reading pretty much ALL press coverage of current events, and you'd be surprised (no, believe me, you would- I thought I knew how far left/right papers went, but it was only when I started reading them all, back to back, that I REALLY got the differences) what you learn...
A) would such an article be useful
and
b) if it was, how would I submit it?

Are you still working on this? I have recently come across a bit of spare time and am actually knocking out quite a few things I have planned to write for a while.

Dropped an article off yesterday and will prolly have another one this weekend...and would love to write one about Pro Wrasslin on a few different levels.
