Shame and regret. Issue out next week, and five pages in advance of it.

We've totally done another comic. No, really.

ONLY NICE THINGS

I haven't been to a comic shop for a while, but I just wanted to say that I am consistently delighted that Phonogram is being produced. Well done to all involved.

Absolutely.

I'm also hugely impressed that you've availed yourself of the Marvel facilities. It must have been sweet - 'Screw you, Stan ... get bent, Steve, yer ... bloody bastahd ... yeah, and this one ... this is 'specially for you, Jack.'

my local comic shop seller is getting seriously embarrassed every time they see me in the street and have to say 'sorry, not in yet' as though it was their fault.

when i heard you were the new alan moore but i didn't realise people were referring to release schedules....

seriously though, looking forward to this very much.

I'm also upset at the release schedule, but really, I've been waiting for Pirates of Coney Island to finish for about two years. I only just recently gave up on Ben Edlund, who has moved on to bigger and better things, ever finishing The Tick 13.

By which I mean, I'm still very much looking forward to the issue.

We are happy to accept the scourges of being-late jokes, because we really are totally late.

Doctorbeck's story makes me feel particularly sad. Poor shop guy.

Damn, damn and thrice damn. Happily for you, Mr Gillen and unhappily for me, Phonogram 2.2 sold out in about 6 hours at my local comics emporium.

Tell me there'll be a second printing?

Still, (and not meaning to gloat, IC) it was worth the wait. I can't help feeling it should be the sort of thing I kind of hate, being a sort of indie/scene romance comic I suppose, at least so far, but somehow, I'm really enjoying it. In particular, while not wishing to do down the writing or art, the colourist's a genius.

Oh and the Thekla, I remember it well, in a blurred kind of way.

Wilson's a genius. I can't believe he's not going to get a load of work off what he's doing with PG2.

They magicked some more copies out of the ether today, so I sat in the sun and read it on the way home - excellent stuff, although now I've got the Bluetones' Bluetonic running through my head - never buy gig tickets for a date with a girl you've liked for ages if you're going to blow it within a week because, you know, you still have to go to the gig with her.

So, there is that.

And being a Dave who used to go into his local indie club and be known variously as "Disco" Dave, "Dancing" Dave and "Supergrass" Dave, the echos from the mid 90s are pretty potent.

God, Bluetonic has a girl for me too.

Really excellent stuff! You made a comment in the back notes about writing a dialogue between three versions of the same two people, but you pulled it off well I thought.

Can't wait for the next issue. Can we assume from the order of the covers shown to us here in the thread that the next issue will spotlight Emily? Also, will we ever find out why Lloyd goes off on poor Penny?

Let me echo everyone re: the great art, color, etc. etc. Later today I shall hit up Wikipedia and YouTube to check out all the songs that I didn't recognize in this ish.

Ice Cream: Sorry - missed your question earlier. You found one anyway, so it's not a problem, but as a general thing - there won't be a second printing on this one. That'd turn a situation where we're making no money into a situation where we're actively losing money.

Teenage Billionaire Psychopath: Yup, Emily is next. Lloyd is issue 6.

Kieron, no bother - it's apparently all the fault of comic buying... girls. Yes, that's right, apparently they like sensitive boys and indie music produced in graphic form by sensitive boys.

At least, that's what the guy behind the counter at Forbidden Planet told me.

I'm not a sensitive boy!

I told the story to Jamie, and he said "I'm not a sensitive boy". Except he's deluded. I'm not, of course.

Sorry to tell everyone who couldn't get one that possibly I bought a few more than was necessary. As my good deed for the month I've been leaving them in bars and cafes around Camden and Hoxton.

Look at me! Spreading happiness and joy wherever I go!

How did I miss this? Because I am a bad person. But I'm on track now, having purchased the first two issues this very day; as a by the by, I think my issue one is a second printing (just checked and it is), so that should give hope to anyone who missed out and doesn't want to wait for the trades (forbidden planet had a nice pile if anyone wants one).

So; best comic I can lay my hands on at the moment? Well, if it isn't it's certainly better than everything bar Incognito, and to be honest, it's better than that. I'm preaching to the choir here. I loved the first series, which I picked up in trade last year, and love this so much more. Britpop was my thing at the time, but being so young the scene passed me by. Mainly because I was 11 when Definetly Maybe came out. I remember a boy shouted at me because I said I loved Oasis, but didn't know who the bassist was when asked; though, thinking back, he supported Chelsea but couldn't name a player, so I feel it was a wash.

This however, was my salad days. I was what, 22 in 2006, I danced to these songs and fell in love with these girls (from afar). This has tickled me no end, mainly because I was Llyod - all self concious noise about music and shouting at girls because I liked them and was angry. CSS is mine and my fiances song, so at least I grew up a little. I love the end of Pull Shapes, the line "But they played my song anyway." followed by the shot of Silent Girl having taken control of the decks, giving Penny a little music hug to cheer her up and put her back on track. If I was more manly I'd admit to how it touched me deeply, but I'm not so I'll say something about it putting a lump in my throat, and leave it at that.

If the reveal of issue two is a hint at things to come, I'm in for life. Awesome, awesome stuff.

I'm pleased to see FP London still have quite a few of both issues. I know they re-ordered a load of the first too. When the third's out, it'll be good for people to still be able to get 'em. And we did design them to be worthwhile picking up on a whim. Or so was the plan.

Er... that was a bit of a prosaic post for Barbelith. When people are nice I default to prosaic, unless I'm drunk, then I claim to be a fucking genius. Again.

got it in my hands at last, and well worth the wait, i was unsure about what i though of phonoworld in colour last issue but it is really working for me as it is subtle and fits very well with the mood of it all. a really clever change of mood and tone for this one, and appreciated the way it made me go back and reread issue 1.

easily the best thing in comics at the moment (until 1910 makes its way to my local comic shop) and it doesn't even have men in tights fighting each other in it. and what magic there is is pleasingly subtle.

the play on small town indie celebrity in the reaction to he who killed britania made me smile in a knowing someone who knows someone who knows alan mcgee sort of way too.

We figured it was about time we released another issue. Number 3 out the coming week. And here's the five page preview, starring Miss Emily Aster.

Is it me or does Emily Aster look just like Reese Witherspoon (but with black hair)? I think it's the chin. Can't wait for issue 7 though - Wolf Like Me was the song for summer 2006, really wanna see the story you goes with it.

Actually, hold the phone; stood listening to Wolf Like Me, I noticed something. Male Vocalist. Surely not at Never on A Sunday?

I quite like people seeing the penny dropping on the hey!-Wolf-Like-Me-is-blokes with this series. All will become clear. Or, at least, less opaque.

And cheers!

I'm in Canada. I went to one shop in Montreal and they said they weren't sure if they could get it; I went to another and they said that looked as though the 2nd issue was supposed to be released a while ago but it looked as though it hadn't been released at all. Having done my research like a diligent girl, I told them I was pretty sure it had because, y'know, the writer let us know it had.

Bless comic shops. That said, the big delay between 1 and 2 hasn't helped people at all, so I don't blame shops for being a bit lost.

(I also suspect the gap's why I've heard stories of some shops who actively refuse to order it. Or it could just them being lazy. Or both. You can never really tell with shops)

I've actually got a couple of friends who live in Montreal - in fact, someone who inspired a PG character is AT THIS VERY MOMENT on a train on the way there - so I've asked them where they got theirs from.
