Maybe I went too far - I don't know.

Seaboy 2 got my highest compliment. That being, me feeling compelled to force my girlfriend to look at a bit because it was so splendid and I couldn't help myself. And she laughed too, so it's better than a more normal eye-roll.

Glad I'm not the only one who has to tolerate eye-rolls

last page was brilliant.

my only worry is that with all these weird ideas and plot twists we aren't really getting anywhere. two issues out of three were spent just getting Seaguy back into the water? how much is he going to be able to accomplish with only one issue left?

I guess it's more about transforming Seaguy, and less about Seaguy doing stuff. but part of me wants more "progress".

I really want to love this, but I'm struggling. I enjoyed the issue as I was reading it, but the moment it was closed, it all left my head (foxy spanish lady and the final page excepted). When I started issue two, I realised I had remembered almost nothing of issue one.

Much more seemed to have happened in the first arc. Where is death? Where are the other heroes? I don't mean to sound like a DC solicitation, but this issue was the Mister Miracle mini again - he lived an alternate life, and escaped.

The first mini was so bizarre that I didn't mind that it wasn't logical. It was obviously symbolic, and I just went along with it, even if I didn't understand it, perhaps because after The Filth and We3 it was a welcome blast of technicolor. This one seems to be trying hard to be a meaningful narrative, and for me, loses some of its charm as a result.

Very true. However, the cover for Slaves of Mickey Eye #3 is an armed Seaguy and Chubby (mit Che beret) standing over the ruins of Eye Park, so I assume there's going to be a fair bit of action.

SOM seems to be raising some interesting questions about it's universe's mortality. In a world where an evil corporation has taken over, the old villains of the world (Niltoid) have apparently taken a stance as rebels, defining themselves in opposition to the moral majority/major morality, similar to how Luthor became an unlikely hero towards the end of Final Crisis.

Maria's eyebaby was horridly cute. HOPP. WHAT UM? It has a creepy insinuation that the eyeguys (not the I-Pol, who wear styling helmets) running around Eye Park are some kind of weird spawn.

Note, Niltoid and Doc Hero have both been arrested by I-Pol. Team-up?

A preview of the final issue of Vol. 2 is up over at MySpace Comics!

That, sincerely, is a great cover.

But isn't that part of the point Morrissey's trying to make about life?

Kadmon, I think that reading is a little reductive. Yes Morrison has had his heroes escape life-traps in the past, but the small print has been different every time. SOME 2 is explicitly concerned with particular kinds of identities, particular sorts of problems. I dunno, I’ve seen this sort of criticism of SOME elsewhere and it strikes me as being the product of lazy reading. Not a terrible crime, we all get a bit slovenly from time to time, but popular critics like Geoff Klock should know better.

Also, having given the fist vol a close read recently, I’m not convinced that it isn’t just as logical/illogical as the second.

Well, it's over and done and I loved it. I have, however, constructed the theory that this is Grant's take on the Odyssey and my future enjoyment may be hindered by my looking for further cues from Homer's work.

Shebeard's stubble was a wonderful touch, I thought.

Boboss, I was less attempting a reading than simply trying to explain why this left me cold, a feeling which has not abated since the arrival of the third issue. I have no idea who Geoff Klock is, and I apologise for being slovenly.

Nevertheless, I just didn't get the point of this. There were some nice pictures, and some words I read, but why? Was Seaguy about anything that could be explained in a sentence or two?

'An individual's struggle for self-realisation, in a society that, rightly or wrongly, no longer believes in individuals. An as yet unfinished trilogy.'

Excellent stuff, as per, but I'm not sure I'll be able to judge Seaguy properly until I've a Hardbound Absolute copy looming over the fireplace, next to the Bibles, and the weird books about communicating with the dead, and stuff.

Same thing, surely?

Hopefully sooner that later.

Tbh, and it may have remarkably improved since I last read and felt - nothing. Nothing at all - but Geoff Klock enjoys a reputation (as a published author*) far above any ability to blog i) interestingly or ii) insightfully that I've ever happened upon.

Feel free to try the challenge of finding one noteworthy piece of writing on his site in the last... twelve months, let's say, and report back on his strengths.

*Of course I'm envious, somewhat, but I wouldn't wear his brain.

Haven't posted here in years but felt strangely compelled to "weigh in" and say I agree completely with Duncan's description of Geoff Klock's work.

Yes, I said "work," his book "How to read superhero comics and why" (think that's what it's called...) wasn't up to much either, in my opinion. Then again, I hardly ever like "Academic" books about comics.

And just to avoid threadrot I'll add that I thought Seaguy 2 was great.

Hope the Easter Island statues return in volume 3.

anybody hear any rumblings as to when the collected edition of SG2 will be released?

I've been wondering about the trade too - is Geoff Kock (I have no idea who he is, but I can't help but picture a large, bearded man, oiled, in leather and talking in Klingon) holding up production?

I imagine they'll just lump it in the same trade with volume three, or perhaps release all three acts in one collection.

Geoff, sad to say, AG, looks rather more like a shaven mouse.

Now, guys, is there any need to get personal? I know that this stuff can feel very real, but people, and their feelings, are real too.

Yes, you're right. I'm sorry.

School must have been a nightmare for Geoff. I suppose, even now, he finds it hard to leave the boardroom, for fear of all the sniggering behind his back.
