Well, it's not _exactly_ the point I was making, but actually the more I think about it, the more indistinct and confused the point I was making seems to be, as if through a long tunnel in the dark.

Really, though, Haus, if you're honest with yourself, as we all should be, as Mark Millar would want us to be, the scamp, isn't this true of all your points, ultimately, in the end?

Perhaps I'm just an old man who's out of touch with the times - it has been a bit of a while since I left the house except to buy B&H and gin - but I can't help but feel, seriously, man, that these are truths we have to face up to.

They are truths that we have to face up to.

If the name of barbelith is to be changed I reckon we should call it "talk shite club".

Sorry if that offends anyone but I can never resist a cheap gag when I've thought of one.

I think the original point was that Brits know a lot about the USA but Yanks don't know much about Britain. We're constantly swimming in a sea of states-centric media while our exports are Red Dwarf, Benny Hill and Spike (who's American).

I for one welcome our (not all that) new American cultural overlords! Let's face it if it wasn't for American popular culture, we'd all still be watching Bullseye and 'Allo 'Allo.

UK foreign policy being largely based on US popular culture, of course, rather than US foreign policy.

I'd say the cultural influence of a global media dominated by the US has a malign influence, personally. Promoting values like, say, capitalism and consumption, etc etc. I'm not saying watching Buffy led to Basra but the world aspires to a US lifestyle, largely due to the popular culture it exports. Thread, mr rolly-eyez?

...anyway I thought UK & US foreign policies were both based on the idea balls selected by trained manatees in a special tank?

"Now see hear manatee. You're going to pick some of these balls. You're "The picker". We're going to use these balls to make,y'know...rulez and things. In return we will give you this shiny blue bucket."
Manatee:
"I got a bucket
Blair:
"I say ol chap, I appears your manatee has selected the Make The World A Better Place ball."
Manatee:
"Oh No! They be stealing my bucket!"

and scene.

Haus, are you suggesting that we find an English person to sit on XK and have XK sit on one of you? It's a creative suggestion, I admit, and there's no way of knowing if it'll work until we've tried it. I'm in favor.

The Plough was so crowded last time I visited I'm surprised we weren't in each other's laps. Though obviously for the sake of the experiment entity will need to attend next time. In a labcoat w/clipboard. You know, so he looks official...

It will be like some crazy psychic game learning about people as they crawl into your lap. Huh. Maybe I should start training for it now...
