Ok, so maybe my recent attempt at Wizardworld variety humor failed to catch on this Vertigo forum

Are you currently yanking out fistfulls of your hair? Are you starting to moan slightly and rock back and forth? Would you dearly love to change every singe subheading to read NO SERIOUSLY WE ARE NOT KIDDING THIS IS A FORUM FOR OTHER STUFF THAN GM & COMICS REALLY HONEST? Would you like to exise the terms "chaos magik" and "sigil" from people's vocabularies with such vigour that you take an internal organ or two along with? Our friendly operators are standing by!

The thing is I can't really feel too cross with the poor poster, who is doubtless feeling rather put-upon at this point. Being called Barbelith... it's a bit like putting on a white coat and a stethascope and a nametag saying "Dr. Smith" and walking round the hospital and then getting cross with people who come up and talk to you like you're some kind of medical expert or something. Sort of.

I think the name has less to do with someone comparing us to Wizardworld and calling us a 'Vertigo Forum' then the actual taste of many of the posters in the comics forum.

That said, I think the comment was an attempt at a cheap shot at teh intallectualz who thought the original post was devoid of humor (which, well, it was).

Imagine the following scenario on an imaginary forum called WeLikeGoodMovies.com:

NEW THREAD
I like movies with poop jokes! Ha Ha poop!
THREAD IS CLOSED

SECOND THREAD
I should have known my Aint-It-Cool-News jokes wouldn't fly on this Art House Film forum.

What you have to consider, as well, is that the Wizardworld/Vertigo comment was made while the thread was in Comics. Which makes it sli-i-ghtly understandable, if still thick and pig ignorant. It was about the Comics forum in specific rather than Barbelith as a whole.

No, I assumed they meant the former, rather than the latter. I didn't really think that anyone had actually come here thinking we were Vertigo-affilited in some way. Should have been more clear on that.

Why is Steve a good name for this forum? It suggests the best mate of a Nick Hornby character... y'know, just a normal bloke! Likes his band t-shirts and jeans... top films are Die Hard (can't wait for number 4!) and Godfather Part 2. He's seen a French film or two, but couldn't help wishing there were more car chases *grin*. He's always voted Labour, though he's not sure about the whole Iraq thing. He knows feminism's right, but it gets confusing sometimes! What are you allowed to say these days?!
