It's an invisble E at the end, you can't see it because you don't have magic enough eyes, if you could see it you would realise he's like the spiritual leader the internet needs, like a virtual pontiff, an e-Pope if you will.
Here to save us all, infallible, special relationship with Grant Morrisson (who is God obvs.) maybe he wears a strange hat and has an anti-crosier and an e-pope-mobile.

Maybe you can- I need someone to lock the thread, it's like picking a scab.

I guess I missed my chance to have The Justified Bastard Pope, or whoever, reassemble me. I suppose I'll have to do it myself. Geez. Why didn't I listen!!! I too, could be gnashing my teeth through cyclic existence!!!

Actually, I do believe some of the topics he raised are worth investigating, but I am certainly not going to take gospel from him which is limited by his own offensive attitude.

I am kind of wondering if his ideas really do have substantial evidence, or not. I have difficulty accepting theories that only consider biological function as factors. I wonder what the research accounts for. How about what we put into our bodies, including drugs? These things are not gendered, but are they factored in?

Besides, whether he is right or wrong, I really don't like being called a "chick", (as if I was hatched). There are other barnyard references I could have made, but that moment passed.

You are probably right, Flyboy. I would like to discuss some of the stuff he brought up, but I am still working out the icky bits.

There an assumption about the way abuse experience was communicated that cam from this thread that i am not particularly happy with. I feel as if i have just had a gag stuffed in my mouth and told to shut up talking abut abuse issues.

Its okay to present them as a creative act a form of art, thats permissible expression but to talk about how they are delt with socially, politically and psychologically, i feel as if i have almost been told to keep my mouth shut, as is coomon to most survivors as soon as they open it.

This expression is okay, that expression is not.

So while its okay to consider the intellectual ideas of pederasts on this board, and pedophiles in headshop, is it not okay to explore survivor issues in the same way?

So while the ideas of pedophiles and pederast authors have a voice on this board, is it only okay for survivors to express there concerns in art?

If this is the result of epops outburst i am most disappointed.

I don't think that's what anyone was saying wolfangel. I'm sorry if anything that's been said has made you feel marginalised or censored.

I think the point that people have been making about "survivor threads" hasn't been that we don't want them. Conversely, I think there would be a lot of people here who would be happy to provide that sort of space. I think people's main concern is that Barbelith, for all it's good talking, doesn't have the technology to provide a safe space. If you feel the need to say anything or talk about anything, then that really is your choice. I think other people have shied away from these topics, not because they don;t wish to engage in them, but because they don't feel Barbelith is a safe enough space to discuss these things.

wolfangel, that's definitely not the same way I'm reading it either, and it's an important point you're raising.

The way I've read it, one major problem with Epop's posts is that he tried to use his survivor status as credentials to say what other people's experience was

I distinguish that very sharply from:

1) a choice someone might make to write about how their own history has informed their choice of worldview, as I think I have read you doing quite powerfully

or,

2) if a person who has built a generalisation about how it might work in others and is exploring the usefulness of that idea for example by asking questions or listening to others, which are all good.

Seems to me Epop might have been intending to do 2) but perhaps didn't have the communication skills for it this week.

I don't see Barbelith as a safe space either, as Princess wrote above. I think the most we can hope for it is that we strive to make it equally unsafe for the privileged as for those who are struggling to overcome oppression.

I'm not sure of the board's policy about comments made off board informing a banning.

However I find I must go on record that if Epop had posted the hate speech here that he post in the Ultraculture group I would most assuredly support a ban. Religious intolerance is unacceptable and hatespeech must never be glossed over.

I think he's actually munged his password but if he comes back then yeah, I think that thread should be taken as evidence really. Much like if we had a member who was playing up here and also posting on Stormfront or whatever.

There's really no way to poke that "corpse" in the eye, is there?

Oh hell, I know the answer to that. I just really, really want to know is all.

Wolf:

I want for Barbelith to be a space where people can talk about the effects of abuse. And I have fears about that not being safe here, for various reasons spoken and shown in this thread and talked about in others. I encourage everyone to make their own decisions about what is an acceptable level of risk and disclosure for them on the board, taking all the evidence into account. If you want to start a thread that you think is risky, maybe you could bounce the idea off a few people you trust by PM first—particularly moderators in that forum. That way they're alerted to watch the thread and can start to head off any harassment sooner rather than later.

I don't think you're likely to get the same treatment as Epop. What I'm more concerned about is someone talking about their experiences and getting Epop or someone like him telling them what their experiences are, and how they should respond, which is what he says he doesn't do in real life but certainly did in this discussion.
