I had a screech owl fly into my car one night when I was a teenager. I thought someone had thrown something at me, slammed on the brakes and backed up, and saw the poor thing lying in the road. What's stranger, to me, is that one night about ten years ago my wife and I were driving at night, and a bug hit the windshield, which got me thinking. I said, "I wonder why you never run into a bat at night?" and about five seconds later, a bat hit the windshield. No lie.
Sorry for the bummer, though, uh... one time as a young'un on serious hallucinogens at dusk I saw a screech owl on a branch where I was walking in the woods. I stared at it for what seemed a few years, as it got darker and darker. It slowly blended into the rusty fading light and even with huge pupils I had a hard time distinguishing it from its surroundings. It didn't move until I did. That was good. |
