So, today I bought a little plastic Cerberus. You know, the three headed dog that guards the entrance to Hades? It's probably the best thing I've ever bought! And now I'm all drunk on whisky! Any lateshiftAAAAHS?

I shall say hello on my way to bed.

My first thought was "keep it the hell away from your little plastic Astoria."

I've been drinking port. I wonder if itdoes give you gout? it's nice.

06:12 / 05.11.06
Gout isn't, though.

And hello. Got a picture of your Cerberus, Macready?

(Insert doublé entendre here, fact fans.)

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
03:20 / 07.11.06
I'm caught up in the damned novella. I'm procrastinating as I write, though, and the only thing keeping me working on it is that THE DISHES ARE WORSE. I have no booze. This is a small tragedy.

But the story must go on.

Anyone up? Distract me with your naughty pantomimes...

Well, it isn't Saturday and I will go to work soon. Just stopping off at the lateshift to give my gratitude to all those who are helping me out, and it is lovely to be back in the warm bosom of Barbelith, once more.

*cue clip of Barbelith and Strix embracing and running off into the sunset together*

I've made my peace.

I just read a really really really long thread from 2003. My head throbs with a new way of thinking. Luckily my old friend brandy is here to wash the pain away.

Mourne Kransky
22:07 / 09.11.06
Brandy is indeed your friend, Scientist. It's the one friend left at the end of the evening who encourages you when everybody else is telling you drink some water and go to bed. It's the one friend who says the American midterm elections ended in a wet dream after a decade of misery and it's time to push the boat out half way to France before you drown in merriment.

Can I get a rewind? No, seriously, I have an intimate part of my anatomy caught in the stereo.

Evening all. It's damn cold here tonight.

Balmy here.

22:35 / 09.11.06
Pretty damn warm here or mild maybe it's hard to tell.

It's not that late to be honest - I was going to go out and see a band but I think I'm going to stay in and get drunked up.

22:39 / 09.11.06
Me, I'm sitting here wondering whether it's right to be nostalgic about Risky Business or whether it's a horribly sexist piece of exploitative crap. Oh, hang on, Phil Collins on the soundtrack, that clinches it.

MattShepherd: I WEDDED KALI!

Hey, can I watch Torchwood before finishing Doctor Who season 2, or do I need to finish Who Season 2 first?

■
22:56 / 09.11.06
Nah, I reckon it might be interesting. Not knowing what happened might just make you fit with the new kid better. The last two eps of Who are good, though.

Bear
23:01 / 09.11.06
Can you believe that Doctor Who is shown over here season 1 is showing on the Arts channel.

Arf. By the way, chaps, DO NOT miss "The Martians and Us" as it is possibly the only programme you will ever see that treats science fiction properly (OK, there's wanky dance links but nothing's perfect) and actually allows proper authors to talk about it in depth. Hearing Ken Macleod and Iain Banks talking about Brazil is a true treat. And Atwood makes an appearance which tacitly confirms she's been writing and loving SF all along.

So when and where is it on? I'd like not to miss it, but...

I'm tired and a little drunk. Which is wrong. I should be very drunk and ever-so-slightly tired.

I may sleep very soon.

Hello all.

I was valiently trying to resist, because I really don't have the time, but I'm downloading the Battlestar Galactica miniseries. Because after four randomish episodes, I'm kind of hooked.

Back to the Future has just started on TV and I have a brand new bottle of Fernet so I'll be up for awhile. I'm bored already though.

BSG is very hooking. The first few episodes are rather not that great but then OMG it gets better..so much better. I am hooked. I dont get it with my cable but I trek to a friends place each weekend for to watch the last weeks episode. Although I missed last weeks. Grrr.

I think I saw last weeks when I was round elsewhere. It was dead good, and I was all humming and hawing.

I got home, sat down in front of the telly and an older one cam on Sky. Also somebody in work randomly asked me if I watched it when I was just about to ask him the same thing.

The Gods are conspiring against me. Plus, Lost has just finished for the time being.

The SF programme starts on BBC4 on Monday. The one I saw was about utopias and dystopias and ran all the way through from Utopia to Clockwork Orange and Brazil, taking in stuff I had never heard of such as Swastika Night by Katherine Burdekin. So good I had to sit through Brazil's bad version just to remind myself how good the real one is.

Alien Resurrection is a terrible terrible film, and my watching the last hour makes me worse than any Cylon. I can't apologise.

WHY? Why if it's set so long after Alien 3 do they have guns that fire perfectly well underwater but jam at critical moments everywhere else?

And that's the version Joss Whedon tidied up!

Saint Keggers
00:10 / 11.11.06
Alien Rez reminds me of something that would be better if it had Arnold instead of Ripley and Giant robots instead of aliens.

Was Alien 3 REALLY the best, or am I just being willfully obscure? I can't remember.

Quantum
00:24 / 11.11.06
Alien Res absolutely sucks donkey balls. I was going to comment in the thread about it but I feel mean, it really is the worst Alien movie, even worse than AVP, even worse than Alien3 which was really fucking bad. I first saw the whole alien womb/half human alien bit on acid believe it or not and it *still* wasn't at all scary. Just shite.
Can you believe they turned down William Gibson's script set in a wooden space station for 3? Neither can I.
