hio, i wandered across barbelith while doing a google search on something to do with norse mythology and proceded to spend copious amounts of time browsing the temple and other forums.

I am female. I am 18. I live in BC, Canada. I graduate in 2 weeks. I work in a manufacuring plant producing boards for finger jointing. I once folded a ferret in half. It bit me. I dont recommend it.

boards for finger jointing

I haven't the slightest idea what that means. It sounds painful.

Was it finger-jointing that led you to fold the ferret?

Hi Sibelian!!

its not painful at all, or at least in theory. My body likes to disagree, but it doesnt know what its talking about.
Finger jointing in when the ends of the blocks are cut to have finger-like protrusions (thus the name). then two boards with ends like this can be jointed together by intertwining the "fingers" and gluing them in place. these boards are often used as studs in cheap architecture. I dont actully finger-joint boards, just modify them to fit the requirements.

there are alot of different styles of finger jointing, here is one of them:

as for the ferret i was quite ignorant of these little creatures at the time and was trying to get it back into the cage...

EOD, do you ever look at the growth rings in the wood you work with? In BC, you're liable to see alot of rings in a little bit of wood.
In any case, welcome, and I hope that you enjoy yourself here.

Hey all,

New to the board. Been a reader for a while, now looking to be a contributor.

I'm an undergrad Religious Studies major studying (and sometimes participating in) occult and magical communities. I'm pretty well-read as far as the history of magic in the West goes, and I've read a lot of magical theory too.

I'm interested in participating in the greater conversation out there as to how we can change the world through positive subversive action.

...man that sounds pretty cheesy.

Hi Jake,

Nice to have you onboard. Don't worry about appearing cheesy - it's good to have a new poster full of vim!

Hi all,

I was referred to Barbelith by a friend with similar interests in magick and the like. I decided to join primarily to be able to contribute to some discussions (when I can find the time to track them down) but also to start discussions about "recommended" reading.

Basically, I would consider myself a casual user of magick (I only engage in it when things are going crappy etc.) but I am more interested in the theory of magick (ie how it *could* work). I guess I am still undecided on just how "real" magick is; although I do accept that certain techniques *seem* to get results... I am quite curious about how this might work.

Recently I finished reading Quantum Psychology by RAW and I plan to start some topics on what to read next. I am also very interested in Buddhist and Taoist philosophy.

I have just finished a PhD in Epidemiology and will know by the end of this month whether I am going to start a degree in medicine... I am hoping to bring my somewhat unique (well, relative to most people I meet in my industry) views into a career as a MD (although this is not something plan to admit openly for now). On this note, something I am quite keen on is applying emergence theory to understand disease... again, something I will bring up for discussion soon.

Anyways, I hope to make a positive contribution to this site; thanks for welcoming me.

J.
