ONLY NICE THINGS
09:31 / 31.10.06
Etiquette on introduction threads varies from board to board. On Barbelith, there's a very rough preference for encountering people through their contributions to topics, rather than introductions, but there's no prohibition against, per se. It's a bit like signing your name underneath your posts.

However, for thems as would like to introduce themselves, this thread is set up to do so. By keeping introductions to a single thread, you can meet each other at the same time, and the front page of the Conversation will not be filled with introduction threads.

Welcome to Barbelith!

Hiya eib. Married and gay? I take it you're not from the US of A then? And retail, tennis and aliens sure are strange bedfellows. Me like!

PLEASE.

I have an annoying suspicion that I might have started that joke in it's current form.

I apologise and yes, please drop it. There are many other interesting welcome noob jokes that are far less tired in these parts.

Hello there. I'm new here and I feel like introducing myself. I'm an 18 year-old having just started at college in Boston.
The only thing I'm sure I know is that I know very little.

I hope I enjoy posting here.

Not that joke again, please.

Ignore those oldsters kids, be assured it is a frighteningly funny thing I said there. Everyone's laughing.

EVERYONE! (gestures menacingly with the doom-ray)

I think I'm smiling on the outside at the inevitable appearance of an old, but tired, friend, but gritting my teeth softly that the friend in question hasn't quite given up popping in every so often for a lark.

Not that I ever made that candle reference, no.

Anyhow... welcome, new people!

(ES - your death ray is discharged, and I think the spare batteries are locked in the Armoury Forum)

Oh, don't mind Evil. He's only got a small death ray. Which is obviously rubbish, evolutionarily speaking.

(Note- I wouldn't have even made that joke if somebody hadn't used the word "discharged". Society is to blame).

mornin' barbeliths -

today is my first day so i thought i would spin the mirror images of these letters through the bottlenecks of your circuitry (thanks to the big machine for letting me in)...

i am a visual artist, writer and critic of the avant-garde currently studying for his Phd and primarily spending his artistic time in conceptual poetics. beyond that, i'm really interested in underground music and underground and guerilla publishing and art production - anyone with a mimeograph for sale let me know!. i also have interests in film, theory, alcohol and excess and just finished an article on Vito Acconci's early writings - something (his early writings - not my article) to check out.

currently live in brooklyn and am listening to akron family, reading vito acconci, writing a dissertation, making an artwork from the timing of falling paper and most recently watched 'irreversible' in the theater.

look forward to finding and dialogue with you.

listening to akron family

DAMN, you had to say that, didn't you? Not three minutes ago I got an email chasing me up for a review I'm behind schedule on of Akron/Family... now I feel really guilty...

Welcome, anyway.

I know I always say this, but I love it when we get new people.

Hello,
I am fairly new to barbelith myself. I hope you are well.

Will you post a picture of your artwork mirabaud? It sound lovely. Did you think irreversable was mean and gratuitous or was it just me?

Hi,

I'm new here too, and trying to shrug off those first-day-at-a-new-school feelings and compose an introductory post. I'm a male, 29 year-old writer and curator based in London. Interests (hate that word, so perhaps fascinations?) include contemporary art, novels, philosophy, comics, and some more difficult to describe things that might be described as magic, or change. Very glad to be here. Hope to contribute to the ongoing conversation...

Hello Zahir.

Do you like Cornelia Parker? I have recently had a fascination for martens.

Whereas I tend to prefer getting to know people through their general interaction with the board - I suppose it's the difference between meeting somebody randomly in a pub - as if Barbelith were the mate of whom you were both mates - and doing some sort of speed-dating thing, where someone sits down and tells you what they feel are the salient points about themselves in a paragraph or two. However, to each their own - I know that many sites expect people as a matter of politeness to introduce themselves before entering any other conversations.

Welcome all! (And a merry All Hallow's Eve, too) I hope everyone is about situated, as the orientation video is about to begin, but be sure to pick up some cheese and crackers at the buffet. Hail Evil Scientist and all that, and remember, cavity searches may be mandatory, but that doesn't mean they can't be fun.

I see where you are coming from Tannhauser, I'm always really curious about people, but I'm also quite shy. So it's nice to communicate in this way, it's a friendly space. An open door. What's odd is that I thought about writing an intro about myself, since I never did one before, but I really can't think of what to write.

Is there still space for one more at the back of the class. I missed the bus and had to hitch a ride from a guy who had had two different colour eyes (one green and one red). He said he knew the secret at the centre of the universe, but I told him I had already read the etiquette guide on Barbelith and that was just asking to get flamed, so I didn't pursue the point.

So, I'm from London too but not doing any formal studies just some writing and some magic, big on AO Spare (got all his albums!). I recently joined a writer's blog group and contributed 99 words to a story that is being formed by a hive Mind.

It's OK the brown pill is kicking in..see you all around!

Remember, breath deeply, and have plenty of orange juice around for the morning after.

Otherwise, have fun!

Now, where's that bloody hat gone...

Wow. I'm really enjoying this. It's been a long time since I've seen an actual intelligent community on the internet.

What's the sorting hat?
