Well, this is something I was thinking about the other day. I think in all art, you get points just for trying. Like there's all this terrible stuff, and it's popular, just because they actually made the effort to put it out there.

Just as there's all these amazingly talented people who are cripplingly neurotic that always just fall short of actually getting their dream project together.

This is why we have Kasabian, say. Or Razorlight. With their stock moves and poses that are like a photocopy of something they once saw when they were 12, all artifice and hanging lyrics on things that sound like they might be interesting or important, but when you get down to the actual content it's just about how he smoked a cigarette, went out, came home - said America once or twice - and hoped that somebody would just appropriate some important political meaning to that while he looks at himself in the mirror and perfects looking delicately wasted because it's just too hard to care.

Um, what was I saying?

I told you I was going to purge my brain.

I think you were too busy looking in the mirror, you lost the train of thought.

I went to see my wee cousin in a play last night, called Greeks, Geeks and Party Myths. They'd adapted bits and pieces from Greek Myth into a party they were all at. Really small theatre, them in the centre, everybody else surrounding on all sides. When we filed in, they're all crashed out on couches in the middle, on a toilet, dancing wasted. They stayed that way for about 20 minutes, till we were all in and the play started.

He was Nathan (Narcissus), who thought he might be gay, but realises he doesn't like girls because he's too much in love with himself. He got the biggest laughs and was the best thing in it (Honest!).

I was dead proud of him.

The music was great too. Written by a guy who was sitting up in the corner controlling it all the time. It kind of undulated during quiet bits, got farty during the actiony bits, ethereal during the weird mythical bits and full-on pumping whenever the all rushed into the middle of the stage and danced under the flashy lights.

It was really, really good.

I'm sorry, I was just distracted by this reflection...

Why don't I know any people who do fun things like that?

If it's any consolation, apparently last years play was really a bit odd, akward and faintly embarrassing. I missed that one, but this year was great.

It was fluff, but it was super cool and he was fucking top!

Papess
22:02 / 21.10.06
cool fluff is tolerable

They might when they finish their own comics! For Christmas. Good things must be savoured...

Anyway, all of you! I count at least three, and others may follow your example. Don't make me burn dvds of the first three series and then send it to you.

Although I will do that.

22:07 / 21.10.06
Oh Can I also please just take this time to remind all you people who draw, y'know, great pictures for great people to draw a picture of Ewan MacGregor's beard, please?

I feel bad. Are we hogging the shift?

I'm sure there should be more than enough to go round. Just talk over us people!

22:11 / 21.10.06
I would really rather quite like to be able to afford The Wire (so that I can see it like). I got the first two seasons of The Shield a while back, which I liked, but The Wire is better and/or different? yes / no?

iamus
22:12 / 21.10.06
If the Wire is burnt and sent to me, I'm sure I could reciprocate in some fashion or other. I can't really affored to be buying at the moment though.

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!
22:13 / 21.10.06
The Wire is better and different. Honestly I think it is... among the better thins I've ever seen.

I say no more, lest I give it terrible expectations to live up to!

I am making things out of wood. Actually, I quite specifically like to make wands. I have a huge stash of tree branches that I recover after storms and after people trim up their property. A lovely lady I meet on the west coast gave some branches from her Filbert tree, which is all twisty and so lovely. I am going to make her a dragon out of one branch, as she just found out she is a Water Dragon in eastern zodiac.

Sometimes I recover the braches of a vandalized tree, and it makes me feel better that at least I can turn that violence into something beautiful. At least the senseless destruction is not in vain....

Bah, I am purging too.
