I think the coffee just kicked in. Feeling just a little bit hyper all of a sudden.
More thoughtfully, last night I read a rather interesting book on skateboarding called The Answer Is Never, which went on about skating as part of an outsider culture, how it was linked to punk/hardcore, its use of urban space and architecture - I particularly liked the description of an abandoned lot as concrete pornography. Lots of stuff that feels familiar to Barbelith, but somehow I can’t see a thread on it working, and I’m pondering as to why. Maybe because I think about it as a reflective (and an older) space and to a degree skating carries itself as being aggressive, active, sometimes anti-intellectual. I’ve never skated seriously myself, so I’d feel a bit daft starting a topic I couldn’t add much to. So, barring Barbelith skater boys and girls coming out of the woodwork, I think I’ll leave my jumbled thoughts there. |
