It's so fucking hard to choose!

Do i go for the song that it really quite lovely, or do i go for that song?

I suppose it boils down to which song i would prefer to listen to at the end of the world...

At which point, the choice becomes obvious.

Turn around...

Nice one pop pickers, thanks for getting those votes in. The closing date for votes is Friday the 8th. This should give Kali plenty of time to get into the CD.

It's last call folks! Get the votes in if you haven't already. It's still all to play for (as the say).

Tomorrow at about 5 GMT I'll announce the winner.

Who is left to vote? Can we PM them or something?

09:37 / 08.12.06
I have PMed the person and got no response. This is really annoying seeing as our non voter's song has won.

Bah!

How long before a forfeit?

If people want to do a I chose that at this point and go "that was the song I picked" Work away. Or start guessing.

Ok, and the winner is

Joe the Flyboy with his choice of the Cat Power and the Dirty Three song Great Waves.

Second was Kay's Catastrophic Kill with Toad the Wet Sprocket's Silo Lullaby.

Well done all, I've bought 5 Cd's because of the cd.

Really sorry I didn't vote! I spent most of this week in either toothache agony or codeine haze, and have struggled to fit everyday activities and other constructive/fun things in around that... But thank you all, I have passed on your support to Cat "Chan" Power, and while she chose to respond yet again through her lawyers, who really don't seem to have much patience for me these days, I like to think she appreciated it.

Seeing as I didn't vote, and if I'd voted I wouldn't have voted for my own song, and therefore I've, in a sense, prejudiced the result in my favour, I'm happy for the prize to go to the runner up. Yr validation of my taste is all the prize I need.

It was well-deserved, Chan. The winner and runner up here completely followed my votes. Will you please write to me directly? I think Joe is stealing all the presents I've sent to you. The paperbacks. The chocolates. The lace.

I've put a spot aside for you in my bunker, Chan. Write soon!

Much obliged, I'm positively blushing, glad people enjoyed the band.

Not as embarassed as I would be if anyone had seen me singing along to Total Eclipse though. Good CD all!

(edit)

And thanks to JD for passing, too.

but...
but...

How did Total Eclipse... not win?!

16:06 / 08.12.06
Total Eclipse was a hilarious addition to the CD.

I'm glad Kay won by proxy because I voted for Toad the Wet Sprocket.

That was fun! Possibly more fun that it should have been...I might need to get out more.

It was a pretty inspired choice. That song's been totally recontextualized in my head forEVARmore.

I don't know if this is usually done, but how would everyone feel about matching the tracks to the 'lithers? I've been curious about who picked what since I got the CD (and one of my guesses was RIGHT apparently. Hah!). Anyone wanna fess up to their pick? Perhaps our kindly Uncle will provide listyness?

Congrats, JoeFly and Kay!

I'll admit to Bonnie Tyler.

And I'll cop to Guided by Voices.

I suppose everyone could guess the Lift To Experience was me.

and yeah, the Bonnie Tyler was definitely the thing that got the biggest first reaction from me -- soon as I saw it on the label.

Heheheh.

I'll admit to Bonnie Tyler.

I bloody knew it. You're getting a Barbe-crush for that.

The X-Ecutioners was my fault.

I'll admit to Bonnie Tyler.

As if we didn't know. Oh my Princess, your humility astounds.

My selection was the Cure. I don't usually do emogoth, but it's such a lovely song (at least i think so).

Still, it's no 'turn around...'

Jesus, i love that track. And yes; new context adds so much to it.

Congratulations, Kay!

I picked the Dimmu song and voted for Cave.

Part of me is upset that I'm that predictable.

But then theres this other part of me thinking "goodness, that song rocked, of course they assoscated it with me".

APlogies for bad grammar. I am le drunk on le port and le ginger wine.

Well done Joe Damage-I-You, 'twas a mighty choice.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh

I am responsible for the Nick Cave song. I really really loved the soundtrack it came off of.

Jesus, I remember the video for "Total Eclipse". Classic eighties throw-any-nonsense-idea-in-the-blender video. When I heard that song start, I just laughed and laughed. I remembered every lyric.
That Dimmu song was pretty badass, it sounds like a combo of vomiting and throat singing, with some rip-smashing guitar. The Toad song at first sounded almost Disney with it's drama and orchestration, but the more I heard it the more I liked it, it really does just sound great, and the guy's voice is really rich.
I really did like all of the songs, with lots I'd never heard. Thanks again Uncle and everybody.
I chose the Modest Mouse- not mind-bending but I really like that song.

I am responsible for the Nick Cave song.

Knew it! Good pick. Makes me think I need to give the works of Nick Cave another chance.

Thanks for fessing up, fess-ers. Now I know things about y'all.

Kali, Queen of Kitteh
13:36 / 11.12.06
Well, if it's alt-country or goth, it could be pretty much be said that I picked it.

Oh, the shame.

Olulabelle
18:42 / 11.12.06
I chose the Soul Coughing track (Unmarked Helicopters) and I chose it because I love the sneaky little X-files reference at the end and, well, just the whole track really.

I wouldn't have matched any of the choices so far. People really surprise you, don't they?

Tsuga
23:22 / 11.12.06
People do. I liked the helicopter one, and wouldn'ta thunk it yours. I hope there's more fessin' to come.
