Just speculation, but; the new issue of Empire has a short feature on this, which mentions something interesting: the film apparently takes on the whole of the series' continuity, including the final 'Boss Fight' with Gideon.

The film is scheduled for release in August. Bryan Lee O'Malley's website says the final volume debuts in 2010. Is it unreasonable to hope, then, that the final volume will be released before August in order to avoid continuity cross-over? Per-maybe-haps?

I think I've heard that the ending in the film will not be the same as the ending in the books....can't remember if O'Malley said that or Edgar Wright said that, but somebody did I'm sure.

Michael Cera is a busy lad and I wish him success but if he doesn't get his ass crackin' on that Arrested Development movie I'm going to punch him in the back of the head.

I'd like to hit Scott Pilgrim about a bit, in his silly, silly face. Maybe I'm going too far, but is SP perhaps more of a destructive cultural force than Clarkson, even?

Surely you don't mean Kelly Clarkson. I realize your feud with her is longstanding and heartfelt, but it is time to let bygones be bygones and all that jazz.

I've heard that O'Malley wants it to be released around the same time as the movie, of course, but he's not making any promises since he's about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way through writing/drawing/lettering the final volume. Sounds like it'll happen when it needs to, though.

Very excited for this movie. One of the actresses in it, (Anna Kendrick, the young yuppie from UP IN THE AIR, who plays Stacy Pilgrim) said it's like Kill Bill meets teen angst and brilliant comedy.

Balls.

Let's try this one...

... Seems to work from the preview page. It's at Empire Online, under - surprisingly - the Scott Pilgrim section, titled "First Still from Scott Pilgrim is online", should it cease working.

Kind-of-almost cast photo.

When I first picked up the first Scott Pilgrim book I thought, "Hey, this looks exactly like a TTC bus." Then there was the scene in Wychwood Library, and I got it. It looked like a TTC bus because it was a TTC bus. I then proceeded to devour the rest of the series.

I live in Toronto, and it was awesome to see the city play itself, acting as its own character. Honest Eds really is like that. Only worse. And being vegan does give you superpowers.

From what I hear, they're trying to stay really true to the script, even going so far as renovating Lee's Palace (an awesomely dingy concert venue) to what it looked like before its 2004 renovation. That's dedication.

I'm very excited about the final ish, and the film. I heart Scott Pilgrim.

I seriously think SP is one of the greatest things ever.
If I get to be a famous actor/author/producer/illustrator, and someone wanted a quote from me about a comic book, I would seriously gave the following: "SCOTT PILGIRM is pure distilled joy in comic book form." (c) 2010 Tony Wolf

good to know that Honest Ed's is really like that. Honesty clearly doesn't cancel out the sensory overload.

I saw this today and concluded that if one were to make a Scott Pilgrim movie, then this is exactly how one would make one.

Also, yes.

Quite correct, sir. Which means getting the latest Scott Pilgrim book will be a huge hassle.

Having shoved myself through the first two books spending the whole time trying hard to work out who the hell is who in this big world of identikit big-eyed pointy-haired kids, I'm looking forward to seeing recognisable people. There are moments of genius, yes, but only moments. If anyone can make anything of this tosh, it's Edgar, but I suspect this will be his Run, fat Boy Run.

Bookstores here in Seoul do a great job of ordering anything I want, so I think I'll be ok. My worry is that the movie won't show up for 2 months.

Hmm here in Daegu movies generally arrive fairly quickly...I'm not sure what the usual delay is, but it's nothing compared to what it was like in Japan.

No, there are a few of us still in the big hall.

I got my copy yesterday, and I was impressed not so much by the storyline as by the fact that everyone involved got a sudden maturity upgrade - but other than that I don't want to talk too much in case of spoiler action.

Very well, but I wonder how many people reading the thread haven't picked up the final volume.

While it may have been Scott Pilgrim's finest hour, it wasn't O'Malley's. The book was enjoyable but felt a little empty to me.

I just read the entire series, my first encounter with it. Mainly because it had been on my radar for a very long time and I was bound to see the film and wanted to have the comics under my belt before doing so.

I have friends who swear by SP as the best comic series, novel, pop-culture event, of the early 21st century.

Of course there's a but.

It is very good, but it's also a very specific good. And I know that's me cause there's something about that indie kids genre that just doesn't appeal to me (please don't ask me for other examples of it, because I have none). I like video games, but I dislike big jackets with furry collars, you know?

What I will say is that even if the subject matter isn't to my taste, the execution is top notch and it's what kept me reading. As a fan of comics there was so much there that was new and inventive and a real sense that BLO'M just executed it exactly the way he wanted to.

How totally borecore of me.
