Alright, DM inspired me in the introduction thread.
Barbelithians, post yer filthy body art! I figure the average poster here will have more than the usual barbed wire and faux tribal nonsense.

I shall begin, with my gonzo sword. This is a warning to you all, too much Hunter Thompson can do terrible things to your psyche.

Very cool, P. Barbelith is a very tattoo-ish place, I'm sure the others will be on this thread soon.

I have no tattoos, but the gonzo logo is top of the list of (ready-made) things that I might get tattooed on myself later.

I stick to wearing a tshirt with it on it pretty often, it's a great way to get accosted by new and exciting people.

Some clothing company is using it now, Globe I think. I saw it on some kid at a distance and began sprinting towards him, but as I drew closer I realized that he had never even heard of Thompson.
Depressing.

Fabulous that this thread popped up. I was considering making it myself. Next week I am going to have a huge Yggdrasil tattooed on my arm:

It'll sorta look like that. A big tree with huge top and huge roots, more symmetrical and in black and white.

One of my dear friends is going to do it and his work is marvelous. A mutual friend got a koi fish from the artist on spur of the moment, fully improvised and it looks stupendous.

Tripod is not your friend for linking pictures.

I recommend Photobucket for long term usage, or maybe Image Shack for the quick fixes.

Well, we all know what a Yggdrasil is, don't we? You get the drift.

%Of course, we all know what a Yggdrasil is. Duh.%

I'll be interested to see how such a thing is translated into a halfway decent tattoo.

Hold on. I'm going to find his pics of tatties. He also designed guitar straps for [band name withheld].

...

Okay. I found some here. I don't know if this will work. You might have to have Hotmail to get in.

He's crazy good. There's two pics of this gigantic tree that he made. I know the guy who has the tree and he's really happy.

Nice thread

Got this a year or so ago: a couple of hours of design work plus 16 hours of pain for me, and 16 hours of work for the very lovely Gray at Rampant Ink in Nottingham. It's supposed to be a big twisted DNA helix with a lightning bolt ripping through it.

[threadrot, still]
Some clothing company is using it now, Globe I think.

That is kind of depressing. Mine was made by some frenzied ebay-weilding fan, as far as I can tell.

[/threadrot]

For some reason, I've always wanted either a small ant or a thin black bar on one of my fingers. Which is lame, but when you conceive these fixations as a young teenager, they're hard to release.

I know the feeling. I've become hell bent on getting another tattoo at the end of this coming June, but I'm not sure what.
Any suggestions?

Ah, tattooes... I have three, but unfortunately no camera. I have a chinese dragon on my right calf (in black), another dragon on my left upper-arm (which looks *sort of* like the Mortal Kombat logo, albeit unintentionally - see here, the last photo on the page), and a koi on my right upper arm.

I'm planning a fourth right now - looking for a good design for a chinese phoenix for my left calf. If anyone has any ideas about this, please let me know!

You should go to Eatpoo and check out some of the tattoo artists there. One of them may be located near you, and all are more or less guaranteed to be fantastic.

Oh, and Jeed:

That is fantastic looking! Can you post some close ups so we can all admire the detail?

I like your ear thingy, Mordant.

My camera is broken alas. I have an angel on my arm, which is extra cool because it sounds stupid but I'm so cool I don't care!.

Am thinking of getting another one, but I thought about this one for, like, five or ten years before I got it, so it might be a while...

And seconded on the extreme gorgeosity of jeed's tatt - can I ask why the DNA has a lightning bolt ripping through it? Frankenstein sort of reference...?

cheers...no close ups at the mo (i just ripepd that photo off Gray's website), but i'll try and get one tonight.

Lightning bolt? Erm, longish story, in a nutshell, it's the meeting of science and art, and it's the universal animating principle/qi/tao/whatever, and a two-fingers to ultra-reductionist scientists I meet every day, plus it looks cool.

That's about it...you asked!

Pretty much what I was thinking, jeed. It is v. lovely.

A bit offtopic, but down here in Brazil there's a widespread "superstition" that a even number of tattoos is "bad mojo". Is it a universal thing, or is it just us, tropicalites, who believe in it?

I don't have pics of my two tattoos (I got to get my third ink as soon as possible), and as things are around here now, I won't have time to worry about that before the weekend. But I will post them here...

I have one and plans for two more. On the small of my back is the infinity sign (actually taken from one issue of the invisibles) under the roman numerials "IX". Got it on my 29th birthday at a place in Toronto.

The two planned are a magpie design for my left upper arm (and maybe shoulder blade, depends if I'm brave enough to just have the one Magpie or two, the second one small and in flight) and a celtic cross for my right calf. Just need money now.

Alas no photos, even though I posed for a student in Brum whose final project was a collection of tattoo photos. She promised us a copy each but either it never got posted or appeared around the time I moved house.

I'm toying with the idea of having a kitten in a boot or brandy glass tatooed on my arse.

*shudders*

I'll post my tats as soon as I can find a willing slave to hold the camera.

I quite like the idea of animated tattoos.

I've been meaning to get another (fifth) tattoo for ages but my local tattooist has been really busy the last few Saturdays and I don't want to wait for hours to have it done. Hopefully next weekend...

In the meantime, here's an old one:

Those kittens terrify me.

yeah, they are obviously upt to no good. However, to tatto them tattoed in the arse would be cool, specially if the kitten "high-five" (should I say "high-four"?) and the "Yo! Wassup?" appear right in the end of the back, above the underwear line.

Hey, i. mice, what about the second tatto in your arm, that almost shows in that pic? I'm curious about it.

(maybe I'll do a "meat is life" tattoo, just to pick fights with vegans )

Mine from last year:

That looks great, but I'm hesitant to get a color tat myself.
I've seen too many pieces of great art that became a runny mess over time.
Black and white for me, and simple. This summer I'll be getting a skull on my forearm, with "VIVE SEMIMAS" written below it.

Hey, that does mean "live forever", right? My ex girlfriend translated it for me, and I am wary.

Mistoffelees

SEMIMAS means hermaphrodite or hybrid (having both sexes).

I'm with you with the black & white, Phallicus. In fact, just black for me.

"Forever" in latin is "semper" if I'm not mistaken. But I'm no relliable source

yeah, and your ex-girlfriend tried to screw you big time. What did you do to her, after all?
