It's half outdoors this year, which should be amusing in the event of a damp, draughty summer. Big communal bathroom with nooo privacy. Wonder if they've decided to widen the sphere of other-sexuality from underperforming maybisexuals to exhibitionist scat-fans?

One can but pray.

I'm really quite psyched about this, although the first couple weeks tend to be among the dullest.

The opening night's usually a cracker - although I can't say the provisional list 'leaked' to the tabloids had me up there on the edge of my beanbag.

I agree that the leaks don’t sound very exciting, but it’s all biography, and biography never seems to matter much in the end. The most interesting characters seldom sound that interesting on paper.

I agree with Ganesh, the opener is alays a big event chez Weaving. In my mind it marks the first day of summer. And I rather enjoy the first few weeks because of all the getting-to-know-you stuff, and the kamikaze trajectories of the one or two who are wound up to shine brightly, briefly. Ah, Kitten.

I also look forward to this thread immensely. No pressure though.

Nooo! I'm missing the launch of this! It's the first time I'm ever going to miss the launch! Why do they have to do it on a Thursday night, why can't it be Friday like it always is?

Le sigh.

I'm sure this thread will accomodate my lack of television tonight, but still, it's always nice watching this year's inmates get booed into the house.

They aren't actually putting the housemates in until tomorrow are they? Or is this my mate just trying to convince me that so he can watch Eurovision heats?

I've found myself in the unfortunate position of watching two of those "Best of Big Brother" shows over the past week and am slightly puzzled that it seems like C4's suddenly noticed the big ball of crazy that was Craig/Anthony.

They mentioned it a few times in "Big Brother Top 20" and devoted a whole section to their close bond in "Big Brother: The Love Stories". I may be misremembering here, but didn't Endemol completely gloss over Craig's unique relationship with Anthony? I don't recall anything more than tongue-in-cheek comments on the official site reports - and the tabloids only seemed to catch on right at the end.

The highlights programs are treating the matter as if everyone had acknowledged and followed their "relationship" but is this revisionist history or did Endemol's coyness keep most people in the dark? I seem to recall the latter.

(Obviously here by "most people" I'm discounting anyone pathetic enough to ever post about the program on an internet message board.)

According to Digital Spy (or, as I think of it, StoatieSmack - set those bookmarks now), one rumoured housemate, Shahbaz, is the "housemate from Hell":

The cross-dressing Glaswegian apparently craves attention and has had a series of bust-ups with neighbours who are affected by his wild behaviour.

A friend told the Sunday Mirror, "He is every housemate's worst nightmare. When he tacks on to people, he sticks to them like a glue and won't leave them alone. Shahbaz seems unable to see how his behaviour affects other people. He may be nearly 40, but he is as self-obsessed as a teenager and desperate for fame.

"He goes out in fancy dress in a bid to get discovered, or at least get some attention. But it's this outlandish, attention-seeking behaviour that has led to clashes with neighbours as well as strangers. He just seems to rub people up the wrong way and that ends up in bust-ups."

Warming up to this now...

Oh, this is wrong. I'm getting excited. The house looks tiny and what on earth? Urinals next to the bath and a giant topiary rabbit. Get the feeling there might be an Alice in Wonderland vibe. Just time for a quick wash before I bid goodbye to the next THREE MONTHS.

Ganesh

I was thinking Edward Scissorhands with the topiary but yes, Alice in Wonderland. With glass walls and communal pooing.

"Viewers. You have fifteen seconds to say goodbye to the summer. Big Brother's coming to get you..."

And so we begin again.

Leather and rubber. Is this going to be a sexy year?

A sexy party?

Ganesh
19:13 / 18.05.06
Yes, I'm quite liking the fetishiness too - and all the black glass. That chandelier's asking to be swung upon, though, innit?

19:16 / 18.05.06
You've clearly never read the scat version of Alice. Neither have I, but I bet there is one.

Bonnie... Moonpig The Sequel? Did she just say, "even Davina will be flicking the bean"? Bit generic-looking.

(Speaking of poor old Moonpig...)

Hmm. Bet she's maybisexual.

Oh, god. Tourette's is wacky. Out!

Spaniel
19:19 / 18.05.06
Could they really have gone for a real live Tourettes sufferer? I mean really?

Ganesh, over to you.

My reaction to Pete: aarrrggggghhhhhh. argh. arrrgggggggghhhhhhhh.

Ganesh
19:21 / 18.05.06
Have to say I'm sli-i-ightly dubious of Pete's diagnosis of Tourette's; I suspect at least a degree of conscious elaboration of those supposed tics. He's been onscreen a couple of minutes and I've screamed "FUCK OFF!" three times so far. I foresee the Tourette's community being somewhat... divided over him...

Spaniel
19:22 / 18.05.06
With Bonnie they did seem to be trying to set up a tension between her sexy body image and the reality, which I assume we're supposed to think is a bit rough (but is actually pretty average).

We need a translator. Where's Haus?

Let's hope they're not all 10 years old.

George: pretty to look at, but potentially very irritating indeed. Fears "transvestites and hyper gay men". Wonder what other sexualities we can look forward to among forthcoming contestants?

Spaniel
19:26 / 18.05.06
If Pete's playing to the camera then I think we're getting into genuinely offensive territory.

Oh Christ. If Pete doesn't go immediately, I may not be able to watch.

(this is a lie, of course but well, you know.)

I don't believe it - a hyper gay man! Now that was a surprise!

Shahbaz! The favourite of our household at the moment.

Ganesh
19:27 / 18.05.06
Shahbaz: "self-proclaimed Paki poof". Gay Muslim - okay, I can get behind that (oo-er missus, etc.) but, at this point, I'm forced to admit to a personal tinfoil reaction to ubercamp Glaswegian. Maybe it's an East/West Scotland thang...

Spaniel
19:28 / 18.05.06
George: pretty to look at, but potentially very irritating indeed. Fears "transvestites and hyper gay men".

Quite possibly not, though. He might just turn out to be a boring child who's too busy being intimidated by the world to actually be anything of anything at all.

Ganesh
19:31 / 18.05.06
Everyone seems to think the first contestant's name is "Bonner" so far.

Shahbaz could go either way, I feel. I could hate him - and George - but, at the moment, Pete's exhausting my hatestores. And, frankly, I don't fucking care if a doctor's told him it's a disorder...

Tryphena Absent
19:32 / 18.05.06
Suppositions from Barbelith manor- George massively closeted but has urges. Shahbaz, a peacekeeper or an utter cunt? Bonnie will be insanely drunk in an hour. Pete will be removed from the house for possibly exposing himself.

The next person will be female, a little bit older, blonde and glamorous. We want her to be a lesbian.

Spaniel
19:32 / 18.05.06
So far Shabaz and Pete are both looking like people with the potential for Nadiaesque journeys.

Spaniel
19:34 / 18.05.06
Well, kinda, Anna.

Tryphena Absent
19:34 / 18.05.06
Could we be psychic or is this getting a little predictable?
