Any word from the venue, TM?

No word, so I'm emailing them again.

Real Live Tiger has a nice ring to it.

OK, we can't do June or July at this particular venue as they're rebuilding and relicensing.

So - how do people feel about waiting until August, maybe? Then we can get some planning in hand, set up all the art projects and so on, and save for airfare if possible?

Alternately, we can look at a different venue - I'll keep on looking in any case and see what shows up.

Well, there's no need to rush it, I suppose. Whatever's best for everyone really, but yes, please keep looking.

Another vote here for Real Live Tiger...

Real Live Tiger is great, though August is kind of a dead month in terms of gigs etc in London, this could be interpreted as either a good thing or a bad thing, depends how its promoted in the end. Keep looking, I guess...

Mon Oncle Ignatius
11:42 / 30.03.06
Yep, August is never a very good month. I'm keeping on looking. I am quite busy with more pressing matters right now and for the next week or two so will have to put this project a little lower on the priority scale for now.

Bed Head

Hell yeah, Real Live Tiger makes for all sorts of fab visuals. Also, I’d vote for August or whenever - the longer the run-up, the more work can go into art projects or whatever, vs. the potential losing of momentum, which won’t happen if someone’s organising this thing. Which they are, so no worries.

But what’s best for the bands? That’s what counts. Us artists can just lounge about in our garrets drinking wine and producing posters, but the bands may have tours to go on and interviews to fly to LA for and 11 o’clock appointments to snort cocaine with Kate Moss and stuff.

Regrettable Juvenilia

Bump. Is there anything the rest of us can do while we wait for news about a venue - or would looking for alternate venues ourselves be the most useful thing? Is it worth getting artists to start working on poster stuff already?

Mango is away this week, I think.

august is bad for the Bride, as half of us will be busy gallavanting around the rest of Europe.

Yeah, Mango's in France and has been a bit preoccupied with moving house and stuff the last few weeks- afaik he's still well up for it though (discussed it with him last week). I'll hassle him when he gets back.

Excellent. In the meantime, on a related note, I don't suppose anyone who's reading this knows of any London venues that will hire a space (circa 100 people capacity) with a bar and a decent soundsystem (including CD decks) for around £200 or less, and let you charge a small cover charge and go on until about 1am or later?

I may know of somewhere in North London. Will check it out this weekend and get back to you with regards to soundsystem etc.

There's always the st moritz club on wardour street or the push bar (also in soho, mind goes meh about where), which are both around or under that price bracket and have a decent sound sytem and imho, the sort of atmosphere that caters for a small party.

Thanks, guys, but I think I've found something already. Put Thursday 29th June in your diaries and book the Friday morning off work. It won't be a Barbegig but it should be a blast - watch this space for details [end spam].

Mon Oncle Ignatius

Right, back from France, not yet re-homed but thinking new Barbegig thoughts. There may be a suitable venue in a nice central location - though it gets demolished in August, so it'd have to be before then. I will look at the venue and report back as soon as I can.

Suedey! SHOT FOR MEAT!
17:21 / 25.05.06
So, uh... I thought maybe this might fit in here.

It's got a tiger in and everything.

Anyone interested in utilising this? Would make some changes, obviously. Like finishing it and the like. Although we could always put it up with NO INFORMATION to, like, totally FREAK people OUT.

Bump. Any progress, or is this now unlikely to happen until September if it's going to happen at all?

Can't happen till September afaik, as Mark Bride's already left for the summer.

Mon Oncle Ignatius
19:06 / 19.06.06
Yep, September at the earliest now, for better or worse.

Rizla - wait 'til you see Bedhead's drawings too - they're ace as well (I'm waiting on Morning Bride reaction first before we all get to see 'em)

Bedhead - replying to your PM imminently!

Glad to hear you like it so far Django, here’s hoping the band agree! Though it won’t be a problem changing to suit, it’s very much a work in progress atm, and it really does look much better in my head, where it’s already in colour and on paper and has other things added to it and stuff.

Also, re: band approval and stuff, I’m unsure what to do with this Burning Idiot Noise poster that I’ve been sort of messing around with, as I’ve no idea at all what they look like. So far I’ve been giving the people in the poster BrianJonesesque moptops, and rabbit-eared gasmasks like the one on their website. They look very striking, to be sure. But that can always be changed to a different sort of striking if they’d rather.

Also, yeah, bloody ace drawing from Suedey there. I’ve told him that already, but it really does need to be shouted from the rooftops, I feel. September or wheneverer, this is going to look brilliant with posters/fliers like that.

as I’ve no idea at all what they look like

Try here for a BIN picture - though it doesn't help much! It might give you some pointers though.

September would be good for us. We've not got anything planned that month except a gig on the 21st in Breeeeeestol.

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

I think you should go with the rabbit-eared gasmasks. Mind you, I think BIN should actually wear them, too...

I got a PM from Bed about this and I just thought I'd post that Mixmage and Johnny Enigma's band, Planetman, would really like to play at this but they're usually booked up about a month in advance. Has there been any more thought on when it might be?

I hope it does happen. It sounds really exciting.

I've been in touch with the venue again, and they're very interested. However, as their Xmas season approaches, they get busier and more expensive. So, given that we need at least a month to get things organised, probably more, it's probably going to be November (realistically) before we can do something.

Friday nights are cheapest - is everybody good for Fridays? Though Saturdays have their advantages too, especially in recovery terms.

Also, how many people do we think will come? It makes all the difference with the venue, as the more people drink at the bar, the better for them. And obviously, it'd be nice for the place to be rammed.

Olulabelle: Planetman sound like they could add an extra bit of variety to proceedings. It's certainly going to be eclectic.

I'm still up for it and Friday's are easy. Where's it going to be?

Yeah, Fridays are always good by me. Keep us informed.

So! I have been assured that this is totally still on. In theory. If everyone still wants it. Just lost a bit of momentum, is all.

So, with that in mind, I present one possible poster. One of a series. I’ve been hunched over a hot etching press, burning these here lines into SOLID METAL, with the most fearsome ACID available to man, and all to promote this Barbegig. It must happen!

Bumpy. Any updates on this most thrilling of prospects? And what was the verdict on venue anyhoo? Corsica Studios? Bardens Boudoir? Somewhere else?

Mon Oncle Ignatius
15:17 / 05.01.07
Corsica is a go if we can agree a Friday in February when they have space available (Saturdays are all booked. Just got to check dates that the bands will be available. PM me, BiN, MB, HL, please!

Bardens is hideous.
