Speaking of which...

[from his interview with Richard Metzger about his 'alien abduction experience' years back...]

GM: ...next day was the oddest thing. I was buzzing, I wrote like 200 pages in a notebook to try and get it down. And then tries to explicate it for the next six years.
(Laughs.) And now you know I can just dismiss it.

RM: Now you can turn it in to a big Hollywood film and make a couple of million dollars.

GM: Well, hopefully!
-------------------------------------------------------
'Nuff said! Sometimes it takes a few years (well, 10 or so) for that stuff to manifest.

I got on the Fanboy Radio podcast and asked Grant about when "Pop Magic" will be coming out.

I didn't get to hear the reply to my question because I hung up the phone just after asking it because I about had a fan-gasm (the cult of personality sucks).

I regret not at least telling grant how much I love his work I am, but it was probably better to just ask the question and get off the air.

This has been one crazy week.

no, the podcast is free...here are the links...this ep should be posted soon.

I just listened to the podcast and I am cringing at the sound of my voice and the traces of an accent I have. I also noticed that I never directly speak to Grant but just address my question to the open air...so nerdy.

"In episode 217, the elixer that the tango dancing gorgon used on Filly the Fun Elf was shown to cause beatitude and laziness, yet in episode 219 it gives the Braxton Kid magnetic powers--care to explain this?"

Ouch!

Still cool though.

I still love you, Grant.

I just wish ... oh, if only you'd notice me, so much of what currently seems inevitable, in terms of the orders I take from the household appliances, could be so easily avoided.

Has the fridge been acting naughty in your house again, Alex's Grandma?

At what exact level does self-aware irony and pathetic fantasy coalesce?

However, I can proudly report that all my electronics are fully under my control...or are they? Dun Dun Dunnn!

Project updates from the podcast include:

A*S: 12 issues with FQ, and that's it. Yes he has loads more ideas, but will not continue past 12.

Batman: continues to the end of 2008, and he says JHW3's art is unbelievable.

Big DCU event: featuring the JLA, coming in 2008.

Seaguy 2: He's working on the script to issue 2 now, so it looks like we may see this rather soon, end of 2007 maybe? Cam Stewart, if you're out there, care to confirm?

More Vertigo: is on its way, but no further details were given. 2008?

More Frank Quitely: the dynamic duo will continue to collaborate after A*S on an unspecified project. Late 2008?

PoP-magick: is almost done and will be out soon. Whatever that means. 2008?

Area 51: he's 50 pages into the script. He got the gig after his WE3 script did the rounds. He was asked to pitch an idea and the producers liked it.

Flex Mentallo: (what he referred to as his "Watchmen") MAY be released one day in the far future, but currently DC is still afraid of kicking some goddamn sand right back in Charles Atlas's ugly uninspired face.

Animal Man: fun to revisit in 52, but GM seemed to suggest he was passing Buddy on for other writers to continue his adventures.

Stuff we are not likely to see him work on despite loads of great ideas:
- All-Star World's Finest
- Frankenstein (or any other 7 Soldiers for that matter. He seemed particularly fond of Frankie though).
- Marvel Boy.

Wildcats and Authority were spoken of only as casualties in the wake of 52. No word on their return.

And that was pretty much it. GM is a busy guy, and 2008 looks to be The Year of the Morrison. Lookin' forward to it.

Biography
Says dude's been working on it forever with several false starts and rewrites. He's thinking that maybe dude wants it to be complete so he's waiting for Grant to die first.

On Civil War
Says he likes Millar, and they're buddies, but he hated Civil War.

>> Big DCU event: featuring the JLA, coming in 2008.

Very cool - this is likely the big Kirby's Fourth World/New Gods/Darkseid Morrison-written project that DC has been teasing for a while.

I would still love for DC to collect AZTEK and the Morrison-Millar FLASH run. I have a few friends who work at DC so I'll try to hound them about that, for what
little good it will do... *lol* And of course, it would be great to have a collected FLEX MENTALLO even if it takes 5 more years to occur.

More Seaguy!?!?? Hope it happens.

Oh, and some of the 52 writers recently teased that Buddy might get a new series all to himself, although this may have been red herring teasing or whatever for eager fans. The exact comment was, almost verbatim: "He'll either get his own series or he'll be dead at the end of 52." Or it could be the writers making stuff up just to mess with the fans.

fun show, I love how they don't hold back that they're so thrilled to have him on it. Fanboy Radio indeed, but light side of the Force. and getting the guy on the phone. in the day a movie announcement is made, i guess that was a first for GM. yay internerds.

Sparrow, watching \ listening to the Disinfo lecture over and over plus other stuff helps getting a grip of the accent. once you get it almost any kind of English will sound just like Portuguese to you...

hhahhahah, Morrison couldn't not diss Millar and Moore upon request...

Wait, is JH Williams drawing part of the Morrison Batman run, or was that a reference to something else? I'm waiting for the trade, so I haven't been following that thread. But, that would be quite awesome. However, what I'm really waiting for is the creator owned project the two of them have been talking about for a while.

Also, I'm glad to hear Grant and Frank Quitely have another project lined up for after ASS. It might be limiting to Frank, but I really hope he never works with a writer other than Morrison again.

Since Craig McGill was mentioned in the Fanboy Radio interview, I figured it was time to do something with an interview with McGill I conducted last December. Check it out if you want to see what he says about the status of his Morrison bio:

check the BATMAN thread, i guess the solicitation's there.

and there's been rumours based in Grant's statements about him and JHW3 doing something crator-owned together soon. i love his work, and with a Morrison script I can't even begin to imagine the PopArt goodies that can come out of it.

the artist himself used to pop by Barbelith from time to time, maybe he'll shed some light over this whenever he's allowed to.

On top form as always, insightful and just plain fun:

52 Exit Interviews: Grant Morrison

"the best thing I'll take from 52 is the strong friendships that have formed between us. When all the writers went to Vegas together in March to celebrate finishing the 52 scripts, it was like an episode of Entourage."

"And Egg Fu! I finally did it! I rehabilitated Egg f****** Fu! My evil work is done..."

"NRAMA: Finally Grant, could you ever see yourself doing something like this again?

GM: No. It's a bit like having sex with a jellyfish: once might an interesting experiment, twice would be perversion!"

I liked this:

The idea behind the Megaverse is to basically create a number of big new franchise possibilities. It's like having several comics companies and universes under one umbrella (...) And no crossovers! Each of the parallel universes should exist in its own separate stream with no contact from the others

It's simple and obvious, nothing new and groundbreaking, but nice and open for business for all without the previous breaches for problems. Just a nice synthesis that might be good for business in the long run.

Shiny: Well Over Thirty
05:10 / 09.05.07
it's a shame then we've already seen crossovers, what with one of the worlds being seen in the Flash, and stuff going down in JSA that's probably connected.
