Running irritates my piercings, even when my clothes aren't abrading them. I assume it's the sweat. What do I do about this? I bathe immediately afterward. Should I rinse off before, too?

If it is the sweat, you need to use a prophylactic lubricant, such as petroleum jelly.

Really? In a piercing? I thought nothing should go in there but water, maybe a little soap?

When I got my ears pierced as a kid, the lady at the mall told me to dab a little bit of rubbing alcohol on them to prevent infection.

Dunno if that would help with the chafing though.

When I got my ear pierced, the left of course because the right meant you were gay.. they didn't tell me anything .. I thought they did a hole first and thennn the stud in .. but no .. all at once..

As for HCE, surely some tape is called for?

Wait, is it a new piercing? Uh, maybe I don't know enough about the specifics to give you advice. For general use, vaseline is a good non-sexual lubricant because the mineral oil base is neutral, with molecules too big to be absorbed through the skin, and it has no vegetable- or animal-derived ingredients to become rancid or provide food for wee beasties. However, any bacteria that get trapped between the skin and lubricant will be pretty comfy, so you will want to clean the area thoroughly.

Tape or bandaids or whatever won't help if sweat is the irritant. Consult your physician?

You could try a topical anasthetic maybe?

I guess I'll try cleaning the area with alcohol before I run. I mean, I'm not going to rub antiperspirant on general patches of skin to stop sweat running down, and chafing is not the issue, I don't think. Maybe it's not even from running and it's just general irritation from clothing that is exacerbated by sweat/sunblock.

Chatting elsewhere I've been informed that some guy who stomped a toddler to death should be killed as he is impossible to help.

When asking for clarification I've been referred to the work of Dr Bob Hare which it is claimed shows that psychopaths cannot be helped and that treatment actually makes things worse.

Before I throw myself into reading about Bob's psychotherapy is there anything out there with an opinion other than these people being beyond help?

I guess I'll try cleaning the area with alcohol before I run.

That won't necessarily help as the area will be re-colonised by skin flora and whatever micro-organisms are on the inside of your clothing pretty quickly. But it sounds like it's friction contact with the clothes that might be the issue.

Have you tried some sort of blank or plug (I don't know what the actual term would be) that can keep the hole open and won't catch.

It's that or resort to skinny sprinting. There are no other options.

Perhaps I'm being an idiot, but how does one change one of these? (I assume that going from a proper light to something which emits a dull glow at the stubs means the bulb needs changing.)

It's annoyingly too high to see very well, and I think I might have broken a small plastic bit inside the fitting while poking around (it didn't look very essential though). Should I be able to do this myself or should I harass my useless landlord?

How many pingles does it take to change a light bulb?

Seriously, I don't know, but if it says "2-pin" it's probably pretty simple; maybe there's a little clip to hold the base in?

Pingle!Pop

It does say it's two pin - I've managed to find the correct bulb to order a replacement, but it's definitely not self-evident to me how one goes about actually changing it...

I work part-time in a vile hardware shop and we sell those bulbs. An hilarious amount of people end up breaking them when trying to put them in. I've never actually replaced one of them myself, but whatever you do, don't break it while putting it in! One customer somehow got the part with the pins jammed in the fitting and had to get an electrician out to fix the mess (a mess he blamed us for creating because of selling "faulty" bulbs. Pshaw!).

HAPPY BULBING!

Reading that back, that sounds exactly like what's supposed to be done. I meant to say he got that part stuck, while ripping the glass bulb part away. Fun!

Dude, just make sure you grasp the middle bit, the bit with the solid plastic box that houses the pins. Don't yank it out by the bulb. It's not as hard as youse are making it out to be, trust me.

Pingle!Pop
16:41 / 31.08.08
If they're not that hard then how come so many people break them? I'm not so foolish as to go pulling hard on bits of glass, but as far as I can tell tugging on the plastic bit gets me nowhere. In fact, I think there are wires behind it...

So yeah, if anyone can tell me exactly *how*, I'll try. Otherwise, I'll wait a week or two for my landlord to do something and shower in the dark.

...Because a lot of people are fairly stupid?

It depends on the specific bulb, but some of them have a wee catch, and some slide rather than coming straight out. The ones I used to have slid and had a catch. Look for the catch, and if you don't see one, try sliding it. I have only ever seen ones that slide parallel with the long sides, so I'd suggest going with that. (You should be able to tell how it goes in by looking at the new bulb)

Of course, your bulb may be some kinda crazy bulb. But I doubt it.

I'm fairly sure that when it comes to this kind of practical thing, I can out-stupid a lot of people. As far as I can tell, there's no slide or catch (there are three little yellow dots sticking out of slide-like slots, but I can't make them budge; trying made another small bit of plastic fall out). And there are definitely wires behind the bulb. There's a screw which says "unscrew here to rotate gear tray", but unscrewing it doesn't seem to make anything more obvious...

Is it possible you think the bulb housing is smaller than it is? Are you perhaps trying to remove some-but-not-all of the bit that is meant to get removed?

Does looking at the new bulb make it any clearer how it is attached?

Pingle!Pop
18:48 / 31.08.08
I don't think so - it's embedded on a kind of box, and I think the plastic bits have come from inside that. I only ordered the new bulb yesterday, so it's not here yet, but I guess that might make things more clear.

Doesn't AppleTalk or whatever come with the OS??

Like, since 1980something?

Char Aina

Yeah. In any application, go to the bold name(top left) and find 'Services'. Speech should be in there, and it should speak any highlighted or selected text. The simplest way to use it is with TextEdit, which also comes free.

I want to know about the light bulb, did it ever get replaced?

Pingle!Pop
16:23 / 04.09.08
Er, it came back to life again. It's kept doing this, but this time I was ever so sure it was gone for good, seeing as it stayed dead for so long. And then after having it turned off for a day I tried and it switched back on again. It'll undoubtedly die again in a week or two though.

And whatever those plastic bits were, I evidently broke something holding the casing in place, so it's now held up by insulation tape. Oh well.

Still, the new bulb came and it does look like it might be more self-explanatory than I thought, so perhaps I won't have to drag the landlord in.

I'm pretty sure Stoatie's the acting Barbenaut designated with chan duty, so we don't have to. He comes back with cats. Cats with captions.

Tell me what you know about Toronto, for living there.
And/or Canada in general I suppose.

Any exPat Americans to speak of the process of moving to Canada?

Toronto's nice and fun, although I guess it depends where you're moving from.

I've lived in or around Toronto for ages, so if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me...

What has been seen cannot be unseen... You could always start with ChristChan.org. They aren't quite as bad, but they also aren't quite as good.

Oh, and they don't have /b/. They talk about Jesus and stuff, except when they are getting trolled by /b/. To be honest, I think they might have been set up purely to get trolled by /b/, so perfect a set up it is.

Anyway good point, if Stoatie is on chanwatch then I don't have to be. But I love image macros so much, and that's where the memes spawn I heard...
