Good luck with Ghosts, Totem. I saw a good production of it many years ago on tour in Edinburgh. Entirely by coincidence, going to the National next month to see Damien Lewis in Pillars of the Community. I guess Ibsen is going to be cresting shortly with the centenary of his death to commemorate. His language is formal and precise, so not easy to learn,. I'm sure.

Yup, hence the enforced sobriety. I found that even Shakespeare can be managed hungover, somehow though my tongue just gets stuck trying to get round the phrasing, but that's for another thread perhaps...Just saw the greatest performance of Arthur Miller's 'All My Sons' ever, well as far as I'm concerned anyway. Made me cry buckets and do the whole 'reassess life' thing and it was performed by students in a glorified basement. Almost makes me feel like staying up longer, but have to be up to rehearse tomorrow etc. so I'd be kicking myself again when I wake up at 4 and it's almost dark. Meh

Who's there?

I just saw Jarboe (JARBOE!!!) and drank loads of JD and cokes, which didn't get me drunk but got me all hopped up on caffeine.

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
22:24 / 07.11.05
I bought New Frontier Book 2 today so I'm busy working through that. I should probably have saved the money, but at least I'm not buying crack with it...

I nearly bought the first New Frontiers book today, but I didn't.

That's the crappest anecdote ever, isn't it?

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy

All the things we did not do.

I recommend it, and the second one. Although the first one is better. Comparatively.

Hey all. Tomorrow is election day, in the USA. It's a crappy midterm election, but still. We pretend. This whole democracy game, you know...

Hallo, Paper Spaceboy
22:59 / 07.11.05
Really hoping things go well for you down there, alas.

Yeah, good luck on that one. I always figure it's worth trying to change stuff, no matter how doomed your efforts may seem. Last election we had here I just had to keep myself thinking of Thermopylae- yeah, the Spartans got totally fucked. But the very fact that they made the effort was what inspired Greece to kick shit out of the Phoenicians.

According to my highly selective reading of Herodotus, anyhow.

And on a brighter note- I JUST SAW JARBOE!!!

23:10 / 07.11.05
And thank god they did, damn those Phoenicians.

Ummm...what was so bad about the Phoenicians? (Other than the fact that "phoenician" sounds like either an obscure medical speciality or something to do with my public utiilities.)

I can't remember. I think they were trying to take over Greece. Which pissed the Greeks off a bit.

Hello! I just saw Jarboe! She was ace.

How's you?

Saint Keggers
23:29 / 07.11.05
Wow! Jarboe! You saw Jarboe! Who is Jarboe?

Im alright, could be better. Spent the whole day doing sculpture and the closest I got to something decent was a dragon that looked like it had a penis for a head. Sigh.

alas
23:29 / 07.11.05
ok, not to get all headshoppy on you but ....

(which of course means I'm about to go a little headshoppy...)

do you sometimes think that the world would be a better place if we said: fuck it. Fine. Rule us, you outsiders.

On the other hand, maybe, given our current political situation, I'm just longing for the EU to come over here and stage a coup d'-fucking-etat. Or Venezuela, perchance. Or, closer to home, Canada.

Please Canada! Invade Us! We'll learn to salute the Great Maple Leaf! We'll learn to say "eh"! A few of us will learn, like, 12 words in French. (That's about the best I can promise unfortunately.) You seem like nice people. Invade Us!

Being Canadian means being polite. SO, being polite, I cant speak for anyother fellow Canadian but in general we dont invade. You'll have to go and convice everyone in your country of residence to join us. We will rule you nicely. You'll like it. And I can teach you almost 12 words of french.

Oh, totally. To be honest, I think the best thing the UK could do (we have a proud history of being invaded, except when it came to the Nazis- who were a special case, really, and who we DIDN'T get invaded by, and I'd say each time it was a damn good idea) would be to suddenly come to the realisation that we're a pissy little island, and should just deal with that and move on. The amount of shit "we" do on the justification that it'll give us a higher profile in the international community... someone needs to ask Mr Tony exactly why we NEED a high profile.

I know your situation is a little different in the US... but take it from me. The Phoenecians were bad. I can't remember why, exactly (where's Haus when you need him?) They probably ate babies or something. Mind you, I'm not entirely sure I trust Herodotus anyway...

Keggers- a dragon with a head that looks like a penis is bad WHY exactly?

Well it was closer to 'a penis' than 'looks like a penis'

alas
23:39 / 07.11.05
But your politeness is the beauty of it. Just invade us politely. "Um, Excuse me? Um, we're taking over, eh? The thing is, you guys have really not been very responsible, in our opinion. I mean, we could be wrong, and you can bet we'll listen to you, but we're just not very happy with, well, a lot of things. Like having the whole polar ice cap melting practically on top of us. And that whole drilling into the Arctic business. I mean, that's pretty close to home, eh? So, um, as I said, Mr. Bush, we're just going to take over now, ok?"

Aww, c'mon Sreggek. You can do this. For me, eh?

Keggers- it was the Canadian tendency towards politeness that ALMOST ruined seeing Skinny Puppy for me. I'd spent an hour and a half watching Ogre being the most frightening man on earth- I really didn't need him to get all "thank you" at the end.

Saint Keggers
23:42 / 07.11.05
Oh I guess you didnt see him as the last person was leaving he stuck his head out from the side of the stage and said "Fuckers"

So made it all worthwhile

alas
23:46 / 07.11.05
The key question being, how do you say "Fuckers" in French? It's one of the twelve words I'd like to know...

STOATIE LIEKS CHOCOLATE MILK

My faith in industrial nastiness is restored.

Question- should I go to bed or watch "The Descent"? I have a new computer turning up tomorrow, as well as people rebuilding my ceiling, so chances are I won't actually be able to go out... so I may as well stay in bed all day...

Oh, by the way, Keggers- Jarboe. She used to be in Swans. And this side of Diamanda Galas, I don't think I've seen as frightening a woman on stage.

(Interestingly, I don't think I've ever seen as frightening a MAN on stage as Michael Gira. I wish I had seen Swans when they were around. I imagine it would have been the most frightening thing ever).

Rereading my last couple of posts, it occurs to me that there porbably is more to music than its ability to scare the shit out of me. The new Kate Bush album's nice...

I need to go to bed, guys. I have, sniff!, given up my dream of a nice, polite Canadian invasion, so I'll need to get up and vote at 7 am as planned, I guess.

I heard some pieces from that Kate Bush album a couple weeks ago. It does seem sweet. Not scary.

g'night, lads.

G'night, alas.

(And get the Kate Bush album it's ace. I'm thinking of forming a punk band called Kate W Bush. But I'm not sure a- what we should sound like, and b- why).
