For those of you at work, at least you're getting paid. I have to pay to do work.
That happened to me too!
When the wall came down, Berlin caught the draft.
Eh, what I mean is: West-Germany had military service, but West-Berlin did not. So I did not need to go to the army. They changed that, when the wall came down.
Now, if you don´t want to join the army, you have to do something else, for example work in a hospital. I did that. Instead of my well paying job. I lost 14 months of my normal wage to that charity money I got for working in the hospital, on weekends and with nightshifts too!
I lost about 24.000 DM (about 8.000 £) in that time of forced labour. That was about 90 DM every day, that I payed (or just lost) for working there, instead of doing my real job. |
